[FFXIV] Things are starting to shape up!
Posts
While I thought the same thing at first, a lot of the changes they're promising like map scrolling with the mouse or clicking on the party list to target party members (healer love!) are useless to the PS3 version. My new theory is that they originally planned on the PC version to be a beta test for PS3, but got so many subscribers they're racing to hold onto them.
Also, my credit card company ended up deciding that it must have been my fault I got charged, because the lady I was talking to "knows there's some stuff on the internet where you think it's free but it's not." No matter how much I tried to explain to her that the company wasn't authorized to make any charges to my credit card.
I mean, they have a ways to go yet, but still it's nice to be pleasantly surprised for a change.
And now, back to the intricacies of making honey without blowing it up.
Now playing: Teardown and Baldur's Gate 3 (co-op)

Speaking purely as a big SE fan, they are and have been frustratingly hard-headed about things. You should read stories on how they treat other game journalists. It's the equivalent of them standing on a pedestal stating "Fuck your smelly fanboy bullshit. You don't deserve to play our awesome games, but we're willing to let you have a taste of our greatness. Make sure you wash up first."
So it is encouraging to hear that they're going to make a conscious effort to fix things, but like the above poster said, it could be a result of the game ending up far more negative than they planned.
I really have to wonder why they simply didn't include everything that was up to date and functional with FFXI and just apply it to this new game? Why in the world would it be missing features?
If they're smart, they'll go to great lengths to build up the PS3 launch as "FFXIV 2.0".

Hey i got 1000/1000 on FFXIII, It not perfect but i don't get the hate. I liked it a lot
Edit: Great TOTP or GREATEST TOTP?

Nope, they made one right decision. If they made all the right decisions, listened, or made the game perfect I would absolutely have nothing to poke a hole into. I would truly love for FFXIV to be what FFXI is at the very least. Not a perfect game but a playable one. If you think I am hating for the sake of hating, I am definitely not. I just need to balance out people like you who think it's blasphemy to speak ill of the great Square-Enix and their god-child FFXIV.
You should check out the other point made in the last thread about stockholm syndrome. It's like SE has been beating you for weeks but they throw you a bone and you come crawling back.
I am just skeptical, that's all. I really doubt they are making changes because they want to, I think it's because they have to if they want to turn a profit. This feedback has been around since before the game released, but they wait until now to do something about it. It's not coincidence.
I will say that it's great that they are making changes that people want. Inventory sorting is awesome, but it's just another great thing about FFXI they didn't bring over for some reason.
You are in the right spot, my friend. Take a look at the first page... can't recall the post #, but one of Bri's OPs has a list of everyone who's in by forum name/character name and I believe specifies who can invite. Just keep an eye out for one of 'em in game and they'll get you taken care of.
Edit: Post #5
If you're running Windows 7, use this gadget for leve reset timing. This also has moon phase/polarity, day/hour element, and server uptime and is super nice (I just happened to find it while search for the other link and am switching to this) : http://ffxiv.zam.com/wiki/FFXIV_Windows_Gadget
If you're running an older version of Windows, this works and is just a little icon that sits in your systray and pops a bubble when leves reset, or will tell you when they reset if you click it: http://www.mediafire.com/?vbrh57sz80bzpgu
I suppose the official explanation would be "So you can try other stuff", but it seems pretty silly to impose this limit considering the game as it stands is bare-bones in content.

The Quest leves are a "bonus" on top of standard grinding mechanics. It's not so you can "try other stuff" it is to offset grinding experience with bonus gil, sp and access to items.

Many of the unpopular features in the game like leve reset timers, anima, guardian's favor, fatigue, etc are all just attempts to do the same thing as WoW's rested exp: provided diminishing returns for longer lengths of playtime. They all do this in various ways; Guardian's favor means if you only do half your leves you get more per leve than if you did all, anima means you have to spend less time travelling if you don't play much, etc.
All told it looks like SE is trying to make the game smooth for people who play 1-2 hours a day, which is probably a decent estimate for casual console players, while allowing more frequent players to accomplish more but not completely outstrip them.
Sounds pretty reasonable to me. However, I predict at least one person sounding like this:
Can I... can I play with you guys? *puppy dog eyes*
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.

EDIT: Is there any advantage to being in/near a city that has a guild for your discipline?
Your storyline quest and class quests would be in the same city, which would be convenient in my opinion

So they're making an auction house that isn't an auction house, just for the sake of it being different.
They could just make an auction house and... yeah, that's all they'd need to do.
That said, the extra free time is amusing, and if they actually update all that junk it might be a game.
Ive NEVER seen any other guild marks offered to me, no matter which town I do leves in.
So, is there something I gotta do to get a different type of mark?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
I think level 20 leves can offer you guild marks for any job you have over level 10 (at least in my experience, I only have been offered Pugilist, Gladiator, and Marauder), and you must complete the leve on that class to get the marks. I've never been offered anything other than Pugilist marks from 30 leves, and pugilist is my only job over 20. I guess I'll be able to say for certain if that changes when I get a few more levels on my lancer and see a few more resets worth of leves.
Thats the thing, its only offered me PUG marks, my PUG is rank 10, but my GLA is 21, still havent gotten a single GLA mark.
edit: oh, now i found a GLA specific quest in the guild... i swear the guy didnt have any quests for me when i checked before at the same level.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good news, my endeavors have gotten me to r22 fishing, so hopefully I can actually catch one of these stupid fish in the next few days.
Bad news, I die a lot. There's aggro mobs around the spot where I fish and they kill me in 2 shots. I'm vigilant for about 30 mins, then I forget to keep checking my minimap for new dots, and then BAM! So I need to work on that.
I haven't had much luck selling, mostly due to not knowing what prices to use.
I plan on grinding a lot of weaving tonight... maybe making some hemp items, then I'll move on from there.
What should I price the hempen pieces at? Head, body, etc?
If you were in the Open Beta then not much has changed.
Someone wanted an invite and I couldnt give one
