Lord of the Rings as a whole is way cooler than Wild Wild West

but I'm still voting for Sand

look I'm gonna let you keep this opinion because Vigilante is best friends with Shining Knight

did of you guys read Tamora Pierce when you were younger? because I totally did.

I know they were written for tweenage girls but I don't care because they were actually really good

This is the best possible resolution to this dispute.

Yeah, I think this one is the best but I like all of them. Hopefully they won't do what they did with Jim Darkmagic and put the one that gets the least number of votes back in the closet, I want to see them flesh out all three comic ideas.

Sand has a really awesome set of colors and authentic writing, but nothing in the actual comic sold me on the concept. The only hints we have are that he can't be hung and there's some kind of voice in his head. The stuff about it being sci-fi all comes from the news post. Giving it a full graphic novel treatment could be really rewarding, but it's still my least favorite.

New Kid has a pretty simple setup, but this is the second kid-centric option out of the six we've seen. I think Mike and Jerry might be looking for an outlet for the "dad stories" from the old podcasts, and I loved those. If they want to convey their trials and tribulations of parenthood and childhood in a unique setting, I'm all ears.

Queen of Bells fluctuates between yes and no for me. On one hand, the song is amazing and getting Belruel's story would be a great trip with lots of opportunity for high heroism and pathos. On the other hand, I don't think I want to know the words to her nine prestigious oaths or see what the sorcelled barb of Arudair actually looks like. I could see it working if they stick to young-adult backstory, but it's a fine line to tread.

Honestly even if we didn't have any of the extra stuff about Sand

"Immortal cowboy" is good enough for me

    Sand, please.

Because I can do without some pretty-looking fanfic based around someone's WoW character - even if that someone is Tycho Brahe.

However, if more Automata were an option, I would pick that.

I don't know what's going on in this one. There's an oldster, and he's crossing names out, then a woman is gearing up and standing all tough in the last panel. It looks pretty nice but I think I'm going to vote for Sand, because there I know what's up.

The concept for the comic may well be strong, but the problem is that the execution of this pilot muddles that. I had to go back and realize that person reaching for the sword and shield wasn't also responsible for the dialogue balloon. Also, while vagueness is good, all I'm left expecting is that the story is about a young lady who fights. That is not any where as interesting as any of he other ideas he boys have put out.

I am totally voting for Belruel (or Queen of Bells, whatever they want to call it).

    But about the comic..

Last panel, she is clearly holding the sword right handed.

The 3rd to last panel, where she is clanging the sword against the shield. She would have to be holding the sword and the shield in opposite hands. Doesn't quite make sense.

I dunno there's some more to it then that

the name "Queen of Bells" implies that her story is going to take her pretty far away from what we're seeing here

and the list in panel one raises some questions. Is it a list of people they've killed, or people they've lost? What's gotten her so worked up that she's going out to fight alone against the old man's and presumably the rest of her camp's wishes?

I think there's an interesting story to be told there and I would like to see it

but it commits the classic flaw of not being about sci-fi cowboys

So, I have to admit the "The New Kid" idea is not very original, but I believe it has the most potential. I could think of a dozen shows/movies/stories that are doing the similar arc, but I really want to see Jerry and Mike's tone, art, and creativity brought to bear.

It is kind of like when you take a story that people know and turn it on its head. I mean Enslaved and Dragonball share the same story as the Journey to the West, but it is there spin on these stories that make them interesting.

To riff on the Biblical tone of the thread- Ecclesiastes says, "All things have been done under the sun" and all we are doing now is just iterating on them.

Western with sci-fi vs medieval? At least make a decent comparison. Wild Wild West doesn't beat Lord of the Rings, but Brisco County Jr. sure as heck does.

I doubt that she's a warrior, since she's stealing that sword and shield and all. My guess is she's the granddaughter of the old dude brought along with the caravan (in full armor so she was at least protected in case of shit going down, but not armed since again she's probably untrained) and decided to sneak out to fight and/or train with the big dude at the end in that naive childlike way, possibly because he was the next name on the list and she recognized it.

I like the art in this one much more than the others.

Plus, I find the hook more engaging. I'm much more interested in the seeing the character arc of this young girl as she tries to break out from her assigned role than either of the other two protagonists.

Yeah, I was trying to decided between this one and New Kid (westerns just don't do anything for me). Thankfully, I will quite happily vote out of spite. So Queen of Bells gets my vote.
