When I hit commander I'm getting a Stargazer. WWJLPD
Sadly, the proper Stargazer, the Constellation class is not in the game; the tier 3 cruisers are the cruiser class with no canon ships. In my (obviously correct) opinion, none of the tier 3 base ships are very attractive, but mileage will vary for persons without my preternatural insights.
On an unrelated topic, I've been playing Bridge Commander lately, to slake my Trek thirst while waiting for season 3 to come out. Its a decent but flawed game, on the whole, but the method that it uses for handling bridge interaction is pretty cool, and I wish that STO had adopted it, or does in the future. For those who haven't played it, basically its just issuing orders to bridge officers that they carry out. You can fight the ship yourself if you wish, with a basic ASDW control scheme, but you can also issue tactics and maneuver orders through officers. The systems isn't nearly as well developed as it could be, but it could work really well with STOs powers system and it gives a really nice "Captain" feel. (I'd also like to see the model adopted other places --Mass Effect, say. I think its a really cool game mechanic, or would be if it were more fleshed out).
And finally: Season 3. Set rewards for STFs. I've got a prior engagement Friday, but I'm determined to get rolling on Saturday. I'd much rather have Team Wang on it than a PUG. Who's in? Come on. You know you want to. All the cool star trek nerds will be doing it.
ETA: Also, the Season 3 release notes are now up. Contents aren't going to be a shock to anyone, but its fun to salivate over while we wait the last few hours.

Cheyenne is canon. Though like 2/3 of canon Starfleet ships, it never appeared on screen except as a flaming wreck.
Thanks. I always forget that all those models from the battle of Wolf 359 even existed.

Supposed to be a patch this morning; servers are down but they are not pushing files.

I'm sorry.... You guys figured out how to mule money between the two factions?
Awesome...
The Klinks ultimately need about 7 million EC or so to unlock all the tabs. The 300k EC we needed will deplete my primary Klink's funds, but each tab costs about 1.4mil EC....
But since we know how to do it I can begin depleting the funds on my feddies...
Nak, the fed fleet bank has about 300 units of data resources. I can flip these on teh exchange and pull in about 1-2 mi EC. That's if the market is as broken with the release of season 3 as it has been leading up to it. I just need your go ahead.

Patch worked for me. Seriously. The game just got so much better. i actually burned through a huge chuck of particles that I had saved since the game started. Some of the high end crafting stuff actually looks really good. Heading off to replay the Gateway mission to get a type 1 phaser. Then I'll probably to the Devidian one again to get my BOs another type 3.
Do any updated skill calculators still exist for this game? I think I downloaded a java based one shortly after launch, but I've since deleted it. I'm thinking about starting up a KDF science officer to get reaquainted with the game mechanics since I can't remember a thing about my fed engie.

I say go for it. I put a lot of that there, and have more in my bank if anyone actually needs any, but the market won't remain ridiculous for long once people realize crafting's easier now than it was before. Jump on it, it's easy to replace and klink side could use a couple mil. After I make the stuff I want I'm probably going to mass dump my remaining samples to the fleet bank anyway.
Edit: on the off chance that anyone's worried their crafting leveling will be disrupted by it, just about everything in R&D is bind on equip, and I'm maxed out already (I'm probably not the only one), so we can get the stuff everyone wants made.

So I rolled up my first Klingon - an engineering officer named Kon. I've done my best to make him look like a TOS Klingon; he's all pale and wiry and dressed in like black pajamas. If they ever put up those gold braidy sashes, he will be perfect.
Anyway, what I've discovered is that man that starting Bird of Prey is almost too much. Is it classed as a light escort, rather than the light cruiser the Feds start off with? Because it feels really fast and I honestly don't know how to control it very well. It felt like I'd get a lock on an enemy, easily punch down their shields, but then zoom past them and have to come around for another pass from a completely different angle. You guys have any advice for this?
Q and E adjust your speed. Don't go full tilt all the time. In my escort fed side and BoP klink side, I usually come in at about half speed. If your front shields get low and you don't have cooldowns left to keep them up, speed up and evasive maneuvers away. I regularly slow down as low as quarter speed to keep my cannons lined up on a target.

The sashes are the rank designations. You'll get some as you rank up.
What I do is slow down and match speed with the target. That makes it easier to drop behind them and hammer their aft. On one to one this makes it easier to stay alive as you can keep transferring shield strength from your other shields to the fore in addition to using any shield recharging abilities. In multiple ship combat you basically have to destroy them as fast as possible, but they'll usually go down super quick.
My LTCom Bird of Prey has two types of Cannons, (Phaser cannon and dual heavy disruptor cannon) and a dual beam phaser bank on the front and a plasma turret on the back. With power set to weapons I rip through stuff without ever needing torpedoes.
Also don't be afraid to basically become a turret and pivot on the spot to keep your fore weapons firing. This is useful if a ship is about to go down and you don't want to make another pass.

So now that fleet names appear over our heads, can we change the Fed Fleet name to something slightly more fluffy? I know the Wang thing is traditional, but most of us playing at this point are more dedicated Trek fans. Maybe something like Arcadian Defense Fleet?

I like Arcadian Defense Fleet. The wangs were funny when it was a private joke, but now that we're wearing them like hats, it's a bit on the weird side.

Actually, looks like all admirals (edit: Everyone commander and up) have the ability.
I brought it up in the channel, and after a bit of discussion, I changed it to Arcadian Defense Fleet, at least for the time being until more people weigh in on it.
truth be told, i made over 6 million on my own and my partner's resources
we're combining in to just 1 account due to finances, so i i'm gonna be on [email protected] most of the time.

You are a good person. Too bad EC has no real purpose after fleet tabs. Before this I had enough to never worry about things like whole crew uniform changes and looking at every bridge.

I'm going to try and log on for a bit tonight. If anything to patch up and buy the klink fleet tabs...
With regards to the fleet name... Arcadian Defense Force is fine, but I'd like to be able to work Penny in there as well. I know the Klinks are The House of M'rch. The Feds could go by Precipice Defense Fleet or something...
Doesn't necessarily need Penny or Arcade in there, just the essence of it..

For what it's worth, I like Arcadian Defense Force; it's got the PA reference, but is classy and can totally pass for something "legitimately" from Star Trek.

Fun in that's almost what happens especially with Aide Planets.
Planet: "We are in desperate need for communication supplies so that we can..."
Me: "Comms? Got it" Close window, replicate communication supplies "Here you go."
Planet: "Oh. Thanks. That was quick."
Also Nak, our Klingon fleet bank now has over 6 million EC in it. Time to Tab it up.

Something I just thought of. They should add the ability to take an existing ship and pay some large some of EC or merits to allow a player to rearrange the BO slots on the ship. This wouldn't be to over powering because a guy with five tac BOs won't have any hull or shield repair skills.
Basically I just want Beam Fire at Will III on my Galaxy.

I loved the ones where they were like "Fuck you! Give us your lunch money!" and I was thinking to myself "How about I just orbital strike your major population centers?" but instead I was all like "OK, here you go!"

The devs won't do it because of PvP (or at least that'll be the stated reason). It'd be tough to balance anyway, and would violate the concept of evaluating your foes based on what you can see of them. The latter is the (stated) reason they disabled the weapons-tinting command.
If you want Fire at Will 3 on a cruiser, unfortunately, you'll have to get an Excelsior.
