It has been quite a while since I've read or watched Othello, but if the audience had no idea that Moorish people had dark skin would the play still work reasonably? I mean his status as a Moor, and therefore an outsider, is definitely supported by dialog.

Ok, ok. The thing with blackface... first, it's fucking atrocious; really, the fact of it having gone on for so long is a slap in the face. Second, the practice of having white actors playing brown people was fucked, and came about purely because brown people were basically not allowed to play leads (which is why I mentioned Wayne as Ghengis). Third, I don't think anybody is actually debating the quality of Olivier's or Welles' performances.
See, I know this isn't about somebody being racist here. But, honestly, yeah; Othello's brown. He was written to be brown. I highly encourage you to do a performance of Othello in blackface. Heimdal being played by a black actor? Like I said, a little odd. But the brown people aren't going to be taking over all the white roles. As a matter of fact, we're probably going to be marginalized in film for a very long time.

I believe it was founded as St Petersburg, then renamed Petrograd to sound less German in WW1, then Leningrad after the Reds took over, and became St Petersburg again shortly before the Soviet Union ended.
She lived in a school bus on Venice beach with an Italian prince she eventually married, and sounds more intelligent in interviews than most actresses her age.
