Dyna, have you seen Heist? It's still a Mamet film, but less so than might automatically put you off. Watch Gene Hackman be a motherfucker so cool that when he sleeps, sheep count him.
Nerdgasmic: I will be realID friends with you if you would like. I'm in the facebook group and have a ridiculously common name so I don't really have qualms about it.
Undiscovered Country is a really good Trek film. I like the way almost all the crew are unremittingly racist for almost the whole length of the movie.
Nicholas Meyer is a very sharp cookie. I listened to his commentary on Wrath of Khan recently and it's impressive how he seems to instinctively understand how to make a good Star Trek movie even though he personally doesn't understand its appeal at all.

I guess this applies to anyone else who cares.

He probably knows how to make a good Trek movie because he's not a Trekkie.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

Five was really the first god-awful Star Trek movie and also the worst, although Nemesis gave it a run for its money.
One is turgid and overlong but has been vastly improved by the new cut and is now actually kind of cool, and three isn't really bad, just kind of flatly directed and talky.

It makes sense, also I really grow tired of enlightened future characters, you can't tell me everyone would like the dickontheirchinians.

No, that's Final Frontier. The most awful Trek film ever made.

no, that's five
Undiscovered Country is the one with Christopher Plummer and a lot of Shakespeare
No, that's The Final Frontier, number 5. Undiscovered Country is the one with the Klingons and Kim Cattrall.
So you'd rather he was actually dead?
Hmmm...

Five was an offense against cinema, though.
