    The part that bugs me the most is that, I tried to get away. It was three on one - I'm bad at math, but not that bad. So I tried to get to the middle of the street, hoping that cars would stop and, I dunno, call the cops? Honk and scare them off? Get out and say "Quit being dicks, you dicks!"

    But, nope. Half a dozen cars drove AROUND me/my ass-beating, crossing into the wrong side of the road to do so.

    Fuck is that disheartening

    Damn Pooro that sucks. I haven't had anything like that happen to me since high school.

    Like when I was in elementary school a bunch of kids jumped me when I was on my bike and beat the shit out of me.

    Last time this happened, I was riding my bike and some guys in a car started throwing stuff at me.

    People's minds are so rooted in the "If I don't attack now, I'll be attacked later" mentality that they will attack people who are a minor threat to them. It's a shame that even in this society people still resort to this troglodyte behaviour.

    I recall a few years back I saw two guys fighting and I broke it up, was nearly arrested myself because of the involvement alone. I could not let this guy beat up another one over something so stupid as bumping into him. Helping people is hard, even though deep down you want to do it, it could be just as bad even with good intentions, but if you get involved and your actions are taken in the right/wrong way, you'll either end up a hero or a victim yourself.

    as much as it sucks, unless they were actively screaming shit that would suggest it would be a hate crime, the best thing you could do for your safety would be to call the cops and observe

    you never know, you might see three dudes beating the shit out of somebody because they did something to warrant it

    I am still at a loss as to what would make a group of people beat a complete stranger up for bein gay, when they are not gay, and it isnt just high school bullshit

    almost exactly the same thing happened to me once when i was in a different city on a high school sports exchange, except it was "oi n**ger" but then i ran into some random person's driveway and jumped their fence and hid in someone's garden for 5 minutes while my heartrate went down from a million bpm

    still one of the most terrifying things i've ever experienced, fuck random violence and stupid people

    I actually live in a hella-gentrified part of town. Starbucks and a Quiznos within spitting distance. Our crosswalks are literally hand-painted works of art. Shit's ridiculous.

    I have never been thrust into a situation where I have seen someone get beat up on. I don't want to because I know myself well enough to know I'll be smart enough to call the cops, then dumb enough to try and help and I will get my ass beat and possibly killed.

    At least I hope thats what I'll do. I'm even more scared of the alternative.
