Are the episodes gonna get put up online legitimately at all (like Hulu, Netflix, etc) or those of us who can't get HBO gonna just have to suck it up
Solution: Subscribe to HBO so they get more money to make this show run more seasons.
Alternative: I'll buy the blu-ray when it comes out.
I can't get HBO on my plan unless I want to shell out another 30 a month or something silly. Getting it on disc is a lot more affordable.
You'll have to wait then, unless they partner with Netflix like Stars does.
They had the Spartacus stuff come on one episode at a time after it was aired. I think they did the same thing with Camelot. I'd check my online netflix, but I can never remember the password and it's saved on my home computer.
Point: I've never read any of the books, nor even investigated them in any way. My entire knowledge about them is that a lot of people like them, they're mild fantasy with lots of political intrigue, and that the guy might die before he finishes the series.
Question: Even though it was only one episode, how did it compare to the books for those who have read them? Is it worth holding off on the series, consuming the novels then returning to it later with an eye for reference, or has it been adapted with sufficient care for it to be OK for the lay man to simply watch the series and maybe pick them up later.
Essentially, with the show now on TV I feel like I have to face up to the ASoIaF question and actually let it into my life. Which is the best route do you think?

Starz's deal with Netflix is that pretty much everything on Starz is on Netflix. The deal was just changed, though, and original content (like Camelot) is on a 90-day delay.
Offering their stuff outside of the cable/satellite providers would antagonize the shit out of those providers, which is not something HBO wants or needs to do
I really really hope the seasons get lengthier, at least a bit, so they can slow down somewhat and bring this thing to a slow burn instead of a roil and boil, like I feel the first season is going to be

The whole next episode is nothing but set up for a Dothraki horse surprise sex scene. 60 minutes of different camera angles, flashbacks to set it up, and then the act itself.

The series thusfar looks extremely well done, but there is a lot of subtlety and backstory in the books that just plain wont fit into a visual medium.
If I were in your position, I think I'd watch the series as Season 1 progresses, then read the books while we're waiting for Season 2. It's a long time to wait for the whole series to finish out, and nobody should neglect the books, as great as the show is.
I really doubt we'll see (not sure what book this is in, 2nd or 3rd)
Tyrion riding his horse into battle
I just dont think it would work on television, participating in the battle fine, but maybe not so much first-hand badassery in combat given that his whole shtick is that he survives by his intellect not his might.

Shit, just remembered I'm out of town for Easter so I can't watch it as it airs on Sunday.
It's gonna be weird going between the first season where he's probably gotten the least amount of publicity while in the second season he's practically the main character

We will find out sooner rather than later
Book 1 spoilers
In the book, Tyrion participates in the battle at the green fork as part of Tywin's army. So we will see this season how willing they will be to show Tyrion mixing it up in battle.

I'd come into her castle.
They will only be available online through HBO's online service... Which of course you have to be an HBO subscriber to get.
Otherwise you're gonna have to wait for the DVDs

Cannot wait to see that on big screen.
One of the best I've ever seen, I really hope this show finds its legs soon.

Agreed.
I'm not sure why you can't pay HBO directly to get that service.
I guess maybe they don't think there's a market for it? Maybe they have some sort of deal with the cable providers?
(edit: I'm guessing the last one is why)
Seriously guys way to ruin everything

Well then, Qhorin Halfhand also gives you a boner.
I'd give him a halfhandjob.
