Kid Stabs Older Bullies Who Were Punching Him, Charged With A Felony

Some parts of this article really disturbed me.
TFA wrote:
Two eighth-grade boys, both 15, attacked a sixth-grade boy by punching him outside of the school cafeteria at 1901 NW 49th Ave., said BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepción. The 13-year-old sixth-grader, who was attacked by the same eighth-graders in a fight off the school campus in October, carried the knife in his backpack to protect himself, BSO said. On Wednesday, he pulled out the knife and used it to cut one of the eighth-graders three times -- twice on his side and once on his arm, said Marsy Smith, a Broward Schools spokeswoman. School officials were standing near the scene of the dispute, and were able to break it up quickly, BSO said.

They were standing nearby, and managed to break it up. In the time it took for the kids to corner him, and start beating him, then for the kid to get the knife OUT of his bag, THEN to slice the kid three times, THEN they broke it up?

State legislators are expected to consider anti-bullying legislation during this year's 60-day legislative session in Tallahassee, which begins March 6.

So... they work 60 days a year? Well, as long as people aren't suffering during the other 305, I guess it's ok.

Now, I'm not condoning bringing a knife to school to deal with bullies... clearly, you have to use it when you're off of school grounds, or stuff like this is bound to happen.

Is the bullying problem like this everywhere?

I thought about it and thought that bullying was definitely "social entropy", but if a mod can move it, by all means.

I don't blame the little 6th grader for finally saying enough is enough. If it takes an equalizer like a knife, a bat, or 15 friends to make the bullies stop this crap then go for it.

Teachers turn a blind eye to it because more often then not the kids who bully have asshole parents who won't listen about the issue or take steps to correct it. It's the easy road.

I don't know. 2 8th graders on one 6th grader and they had done it before. It's a little excessive but the kid was scared and trying to protect himself.

Pretty sure they work the rest of the year accruing info and stuff about it, reviewing last years policy and evaluating current circumstances in preparation for creating/ammending the actual legislation during those 60 days.

I know, but it seems like it could be more than just a "two months a year" thing... accrue information during the 12 months of the year, and when you have enough, have meetings and make decisions. It's something that could be done year round... just rubs me the wrong way.

My theory is if you don't want to be stabbed by a scared 6th grader don't start punching one. The kid did what he needed to do to stop from being targeted, and nobody can really blame him for that. Turning a blind eye to bullying in 6th grade leads to HS kids who take a shotgun to school after years of putting up with some asshole who peaks at 16 and is the king shit of 12th grade.
