Ha. Not to get too off-topic, but the first time vampires showed up on Supernatural I was like "Oh god not this shit again! Don't they have enough shows?" and dreaded the inevitable vampire takeover of an otherwise cool concept of a show. But I was happily proven wrong.

Meanwhile we have True Blood that could arguably be spending too much time on non-vampires for a show about vampires.

I am totally okay with that though, because even with the Fae court being the most stock thing since vampire porn, it is something besides vampire porn.

Speaking of vampires and porn, has anyone hung a lantern on the fact that vampires are all essentially pathetic junkies? I mean, I was trying to figure out who all these characters are that you use names for (because I don't remember names well when I'm even paying proper attention, like who Hoyt is) so I checked the wiki and found basically ALL the vampire character histories including, "and then they fell prey to their vampire instincts and did X (where X is generally something hedonistic)."

Hell it's Russell's only thing, he's a completely amoral hedonistic psychopath and proud of it.

I imagine being a vampire is like being born addicted to heroin or something.

Only it never gets better and there's no cure. You just have to suppress the urge.

Forever. Having to deal with that shit every day for eternity.

And everyone else is doing heroin and having a good time and condemning you for not doing heroin.

And the heroin is actually good for you. You literally suffer more physically when you don't do it.

The urge to just say "fuck it" and indulge would be overwhelming.

I dunno if this applies to True Blood vampires though.

    They seem pretty well adjusted.

    Except for Russel.

True Blood vampires have Plot Hunger. They go bonkers for drama when required. Since people don't bleed out and can be healed right up on the spot even vampires that did feed like crazy wouldn't be a problem unless they killed everyone, and that wouldn't fly and doesn't happen except again, as dictated to make it interesting. Tara had to be forced to feed despite wanting to go to town, and she was all of a day old.

Yeah I suppose True Blood vamps got no excuse for being assholes.

  • Options

Doesn't seem like it's just hunger either. Hoyt and Jessica's break-up (among other things) was described as, "no longer able to deny her Vampire Instincts and confine herself to a monogamous relationship."

Possible, but I'd say it's more of a case she just didn't WANT to deny "them". In quotes because I'm not sure vampires are driven not to be monogamous as much as just feed. She could be married to Hoyt and still chomp down everyone she meets.

In any case, Hoyt is still in that vamp banger getup and now she's gotten him kidnapped! He should have played it cooler when she saved him, it's a bit too much like Jessica's initial imaginings on how he'd take the break up now...fix it, show.

Is it just me or has this season been really tame on the vampire porn angle? There was the one episode with Salome, and the first couple episodes had some butt-shots, but Sookie didn't even take anything off
when she (nearly) hooked up with Alcide.

I read an interview with the actress playing Luna and she seemed to think that she gets way more freaky than she has so far. Something to look forward to?

Oh, eh. For the "older man past his prime" type he's pretty healthy.

Have to accept that people are living longer, and being healthier in their older years, and until the boomer generation dies they'll be wanting to see an idealized slightly-younger version of themselves on the teevees. It's why movies like "men of a certain age" and the like are coming out with increasing regularity, you're in your 60s, you're finally accepting things you probably should have accepted in your 40s.

Ah, makes sense! Still, they haven't filled the ridiculous, prolonged sex scene quotient with anything else. Though
Bill taunting Erik about sloppy seconds RE: Salome was giggle-worthy. They have such a great bromance now.

    So wait was
Lilith actually physically there, or was it just a shared hallucination?

I don't understand the endgame of the sanguinistas here, humans outnumber vampires thousands to one, and the younger vampires are incapable of dodging bullets, and all vampires are incapable of entering homes

It seems like open conflict would not end well for them. Sure certain wealthy and connected vampires could move from place to place and eat and be fine (like Russel), but the vast majority of the vampire populace would be fucked within a month

So, what exactly happened with Russel at the beginning of the episode?
They caught Russel in a big web and then immediately released him? Are we to believe that everyone on the council was plotting against the Protector all this time? If so, why did they also let Bill and Eric roam freely around the compound afterwards? How about the girl who was trying to figure out why the iStakes didn't work, but apparently didn't notice or care that all the prisoners had been released? And why did the guy with the accent wait until they wanted to drink the blood before voicing any dissent? Wasn't he the most adamant that the Vampire bible was a big lie? The whole thing makes zero sense to me.

Your second option. No one was there. They were all just high.

    And yeah, nonsense episode:
Why the hell is Russel going along with any of it?

Why the hell is Authority HQ?

Why the hell is Hoyt doing what he's doing? So he can shoot Jessica?

Lafayette and the stabby stabby side show...

    Tara is STILL alive?!

    Pam's hair?

    Just WTF all around.

    Answering questions...
Why the hell is Russel going along with any of it?

Because they're going around killing people? He never cared whose side it was, he's just along for the ride against mainstreaming. Now that the authority are beginning to be true believers of Lilith, they're going to start a war against humanity because they feel like they're better. It's all Russel ever wanted.

Why the hell is Authority HQ?

What? Not sure what you mean by that. It's pretty obvious that they're all hypocrites and were against mainstreaming except the old accent dude. Which is why they killed Roman in the first place. Lilith wasn't for mainstreaming, Roman was.

Why the hell is Hoyt doing what he's doing? So he can shoot Jessica?

He doesn't know what the fuck he's doing and he's just trying to fit in somewhere. It's obvious when they found out about the guy in the hate group that got crossbow'd. All of them were all "Fuck them" and Hoyt's all "Who's Junior? . . . .uh yeah! Mother fuckers!" Even when he answered if he hated Jessica he was hesitant. I think he's just confused and trying to fit in somewhere to get answers.

Lafayette and the stabby stabby side show...

Didn't really like this either. What the hell are they doing with that plot line anyway?

    Tara is STILL alive?!

I actually like Tara 10x more as a vampire than as a human. I'm enjoying where her and Pam are going. More vampire stripper dances please.

    Pam's hair?

Really? Now you're just nitpicking. She looked... "FABULOUUUUUUUUS".
It seems like open conflict would not end well for them. Sure certain wealthy and connected vampires could move from place to place and eat and be fine (like Russel), but the vast majority of the vampire populace would be fucked within a month

Do they look like they thought this through? I'm pretty sure they don't give a shit because they think they're the top of the food chain, and they deserve to be up there so screw everyone else. They want war, they're probably going to get one after what happened on their "trip".

I thought it was an entertaining episode. Spoilered summary of likes/dislikes.
    Pros:
    - Pretty much all of the vampire stuff. I like where the Lilith thing is going and the hallucination was crazy(she had weird nipples). Russel just butting in on the song that the girl was singing was hilarious and awesome.
    - Alcide gonna get it on with hot new were chick. I'm actually curious to see how him being pack master turns out.
    - Sam doing his investigation thing.
    - Big delema inside Sookie whether she should become human or not.
    - Terry, and only Terry in that side plot.
    - The wedding video
    - Pam and Tara
    - Eric being the only vampire acknowledging that Lilith was a hallucination. This is probably gonna be a big plot point in the bromance story.

    Cons:
    - Terry getting hunted by Smoke monster isn't being done well and cuts away from vampires eating people. His attempted suicide was well acted though.
    - Hoyt. Just everything about him. He's an idiot.
    - Jessica and Jason fighting. They should be having sex instead. (though it did come with a scene of Jessica in underwear. So +1.)
    - Layfayette and folk. Just weird and out of place. Why did the wife turn on Jesus' grandfather or uncle or whatever? Does she have a demon in her belly? ANSWERS PLZ!?
    - Andy and the old sheriff, the fuck was the point of that cameo?
    - Grandma wolf is kinda annoying, but wolf cub Emma is cute as shit.
    - Accent vampire killed off.

Favorite part was Russel just appearing and singing with that girl. Just, awesome.

Russel Edgington is officially the Joker. He's doing whatever he feels like. He'ill be forgiven, and thats his new toy, "I can do what I want and they forgive me, hilarious".

On the "vampires cant enter homes in this war" yeah... but they can burn them down until a home isnt left, people run out, they die inside, etc.

I thought hoyt did what he did because "hell these people are crazy, I have to say what they want to hear and get out of here!" then he goes back out with them :\

This episode went weird for no good reason though, I agree.

I love Obi-Wan Godric. It's interesting that Eric may be turning into the "hero".

Anyone catch Bill riding on Eric's back during the parade? Best. Bromance. Ever.

That waitress at Merlotte's FINALLY pointed out what should have been blindingly obvious to everyone on this show: In a world where we know vampires and magic exist, are things like ifrits really that much of a stretch?

I like the Tara/Pam stuff. They play well off each other.

The Jessica/Jason fight was gold. It's nice to see that Jason thinks quickly in bad situations.

It's still a bit weird for all this Lilith stuff to be going on now when there was no mention of it at all in the previous seasons.

As for the war between vampires and humans, I would assume that the vampires have a lot of influence over the world's leaders.

Generally speaking it's not just H;FY to say supernatural beasties of any order would lose an actual war, but the flip side is that people have launched ill-advised and ricockulous wars before for particularly bad reasons. See The Crusades, Bay of Pigs, Iraq's, "we'll be greeted as liberators", the Chaco war, and Georgia's assault on South Ossetia. Right or wrong, these conflicts were bad ideas and went bad for the group that started it.

Far more confusing is that this hadn't already happened. When vampire culture is so institutionally arrogant that even the most (only?) "humanist" of the group talks like he considers humans a separate, lesser species (but to be embraced instead of trod upon) it is weirder to think that vampires have NOT gone off and started some ill-fated wars of conquest.

The series is rife with Fridge Logic, I just read about the maenad back in season 1 which rolled the "belief manipulates reality" theurgy model and, if I believed the writers had stuck with it (I don't) would be the explanation for why a vampire goddess is up and about.

It looked like it. Erics sister was still staring at empty air where Lilith was just a moment ago. It all was cut so fast and ended so abrubtly it's hard to call though. Maybe Lilith will rule through mindfuckery rather than a physical reincarnation :o

I liked the episode, it was very entertaining but man it was packed to the brim with stuff so no plotline really got sufficient time to stew properly. They have to be building up to something big if they're pushing all of this so quickly

So you are saying they are like yoda and obi-wan, ascended by use of the force? I could see them going on this path.

Also, they are totally working it in so that Erik and Bill replace part of the counsil, or are part of whatever coup happens.
I still say Russel Edgington is the Joker, and beyond awesome and they need to keep him around longer.
