Spiral Knights is a ridiculously cute science fiction/fantasy free to play massively multiplayer online game where you play as a Knight that crash landed onto a strange alien planet known as Cradle.

This is a Knight in the creation process.


This is Cradle.

What with your ship, the Skylark, being crashed, you can't get off. So, considering you're stranded, you might as well try to make the best of things. You soon discover a place called Haven, a safe place where Knights and the residents of Cradle, known as Strangers, live in peace. The Strangers are more than willing to sell you supplies and assist you.

Within Haven is the Bazaar, the Town Square, the Arcade, and access to the Clockworks via gates.

The Clockworks is the mechanism within Cradle, where monsters and minerals lie. With bits left over from the monsters you defeat, you create stronger gear through alchemy. Minerals can change your path into the Clockworks when deposited into a gate.The stronger you get, the deeper into the Clockworks you can go. When you're strong enough, you become able to venture into the Core.

The Core maybe, just maybe, be able to power the Skylark and get the Knights off the planet and back home.

There's a fair amount more to it than all this, but the wiki can help you out. Don't worry, it's very simple and very easy to learn, especially through playing.
The game is java based, so both Macs and PCs can play it.

I love this game's aesthetic, its music, its gameplay, it is just delightful and upbeat.

I played this for a little bit. It's a nifty little grind, but you really need friends to play with.

And the game is incredibly friendly with its cash shop money. Last time I played one days worth of delving got me enough money to get 100 of the stuff, and my character is only one tier above the starting stuff.

Last I played they are things that are used to change the nature of the dungeons. It's a collective thing and most players don't give a shit, so it's basically just a minor source of income. And I mean minor.

It's something I'm looking forward to seeing overhauled.

nobody cares about minerals anymore, but they have a mission system that divides gameplay further into bite sized chunks that take less time to get through

Thanks everyone. The obsessive collector in me kept getting antsy when I saw a bunch of giant minerals and knowing I could only ever take one, but then I couldn't detect any benefit in the end anyways.

Yeah after arriving in the hub city, I already had 4 swords, 3 guns, 3 suits of armour, and 2 helmets.

Some of that just from crafting your first item.

Also surprising, those swords were being sold by vendors for 3000 crowns (in-game currency).

It's more an overhaul in terms of introducing new players, keeping you interested with missions and specific tasks, and I believe they've made the crowns-to-energy conversion better and easier to maintain without having to dump actual money into it.
