I don't like having New Jersey in the ECF but I just have a hunch that the Rangers will fold for some reason but I don't know who else would beat them in the first two rounds.

Also not going to pretend there's no homerism at play here, but I genuinely think the Pens squad is very very good now that everyone's healthy.

    First round picks:

Vancouver over LA in 5 (Unless Quick starts standing on his head)
St. Louis over San Jose in 6 (St. Louis is really good at defence and has really good goalies)
Phoenix over Chicago in 6 (Smith has been on fire recently. You do not want to go up against a hot goalie in the playoffs)
Detroit over Nashville in 7 (olololol homer pick)

New York over Ottawa in 6 (Henrik-sanity!!)
Boston over Washington in 7 (Washington wakes up a bit from their season long slump)
New Jersey over Florida in 6 (Yeah, like a Southeast division team is going to win a playoff series)
Philadelphia over Pittsburgh in 7 (Hopefully this series goes 7 because its probably going to be the most bitter one)

So the Avs close out the season winning 1 game out of 7. In a month they drop from 7th to 11th and fall to 20th overall giving the Caps an (at least) 11th pick. Sure am glad Sacco is back next year. :?

    Anyway, prediction time (which I am always terrible at);

So, Iginla has opened the door for a trade. Not surprising, his career has maybe 5 years left and if anyone deserves a cup, it's him. He's about the only player I'd be vehemently against trading, though, followed closely by Giordano.

If the Flames do end up trading him, I'll be rooting for whatever team he goes to. Iginla has been an amazing captain and I hope he gets his Lanny moment.

I'm finding it harder and harder to buy that with the early season "How are you in the NHL?" Flames and the requisite late season choke. If he's an amazing captain he sure doesn't seem to get his team going for "big" games anymore.
I'd like to see him go to a team where he's not the big cheese and at least end his career on a high note. I think he needs someone else to set the pace at this point in his career.

OT, go Kings. If you can't beat the Canucks at least give Bieksa et al the opportunity to look like huge douchebags.

Being a captain is more than just motivating your players. I mean, that also rests on the management and coaching staff, but the captain is the face of the team and Iginla has been awesome in that regard.

But I'll agree that him not being a captain on another team would be a good change. If he could get paired up with a sniper he'd do great things, I think. I've always seen Iginla as a playmaker more than a goal scorer.

Being a frustrated Flames fan has made me unreasonable. Having started cheering for them in '97 you'd think I'd have unfathomably low expectations, I guess 2004 spoiled me.

What are everyone's expectations for in playoff suspensions? Crack down when it really matters or "we don't want to decide series by enforcing 'rules'...just don't decapitate anyone".

I've been a Flames fan since I was 12. That would be '92. I barely remember when they won the cup, but I was 9 years old at the time and hockey was something that my dad watched that got in the way of me watching what I wanted to watch.

So I went through the entire dry spell. :) '04 was a good time.

LOL at people picking Washington over the Bruins. Pitt or NY over Boston later on? Sure. Washington? No way. They're too front loaded, their goaltending is up in the air, and they have a history of shrinking from the moment. Their only advantage over Boston is their PP. A remarkably similar Bruins team solved Montreal, Tampa, and Vancouver's PP last year.

I'll be rooting for LA to pull off the impossible against Vancouver. Can't stand Habs-West.

RE: Iginla - what could the Flames reasonably expect for him? The Bruins have a fair amount of cap room, and will likely make a run for another top 6 forward, especially with Horton's future up in the air. Iginla would be interesting as he wouldn't have to bear the burden of leadership. We have Chara and Bergeron, and to a lesser extent Ference, Seidenberg, and Kelly. All Jerome would need to do is fit in with Krejci and put up points.

I will be doing a playoff mustache as I'm not allowed to grow a beard at my job. I've been debating the last few days when to shave to start fresh. I'm thinking Monday. The last time I shaved was Thursday, so maybe I'll just trim everything else and leave the mustache. Opinions?
