Detroit was apparently watching the Pens and Flyers and thought those defensive breakdowns were worth emulating.

So many dudes wide open 10 feet in front of Jimmy Howard. SO MANY. They're lucky to be down 1-0 after 1.

You'd think pride would kick in for the 18 guys not in goal at some point.

Malkin needs to watch those elbows...dude is in Pronger territory this series. Though I guess he tried to make it up to us by attempting to kill Sid.

Good to see Malkin is still up to his dirty tactics. Stay classy Pittsburgh.

Can we quit the stay classy meme...everybody has a player or two that acts dumb/ dangerous, when everyone wishes they wouldnt. Malkin is however along with Neal leading the charge for Pittsburgh's poor judgement brigade.

I think its called playing with heart.

    Or Hart, if you will.

Its actually called targeting the head, or head hunting. Having lost their star player for nearly a year, I would think the Penguins would be sensitive to the practice. I can only assume its intentional and malicious.

Apparently Malkin keeps his heart in his elbow...good to know. You should alert doctors in case he ever needs CPR.

So if Staal wants out of Pittsburgh for an increased role, do y'all want Franzen and some prospects for him? 30 goal scorer! We'll make Staal the #1 center, put Zetterberg on his wing, and have a grand old time.

    Obligatory heart-on-your-sleeve joke here.

Flurry may be saving this series for you right now.

As a Pittsburgh homer, I agree, Malkin needs to chill out.

    Flurry is amazing right n.

Fleury is playing like an animal, but that's the third time the puck was actually loose and he got the early whistle.
We need to take advantage of that second shot faster.

Man, if fleury found his game again, like all the nbc announcers seem to be arguing, we might have a series here.

"closed my eyes and shot it as hard as I can" - staal

No backchecking, no forechecking. Hard to win without fucking effort.

There are a number of things I'm annoyed about in this series. Weber's WWE move, Legwand's gloving of the puck, the Wings' lack of effort. All over disappointing.

I kind of think Babcock has to go. And if Lidstrom retires, blow it all up.

What does that mean to you?

Obviously Franzen. Where do you fall on the datsyuk/zetterburg options, though?

I love them (especially Z, who played his ass off in this series), but I kind of think they're stuck.

If you keep them, you're going to be good enough to make the playoffs basically on them and Howard alone, but you won't be able to win a Cup without dramatic improvements elsewhere. But unless you can sign Suter and turn Franzen (and stuff) into a big dude who gives a shit and has scoring touch (your Staal, Hartnall, Lucic type of player) I don't see how that happens.

Meanwhile, your defensive corps looks like... Kronwall, a bunch of crap, Jonathan Ericsson's continued marginal improvement, and possibly the Increasingly Not Quite as Perfect Human.

I do think Helm is worth a game in that series. He's the only Wing who becomes harder to play against as the series moves along (HIT SOMEBODY). Detroit was at their best in '08 when they were really physical. They were less so but still fairly physical in '09 and then got manhandled by the Sharks in '10 and '11. And this series wasn't even close, really. Detroit didn't play playoff hockey, especially in the last two games. No intensity.

And the '97/'98 champs were incredibly goony. I would have looooathed them if I wasn't born in Ann Arbor.

Jesus Christ, you sound like a BAWSTAWN fan. 20 years of playoff appearances in a row! 6 Finals! 4 Stanley Cups! Top three greatest of all time player (Stevey Y, of course)!

The Wings will be back, they always find a way.

If I knew Helm was going to miss all but a period I totally would have taken Nashville in 5. I relied on the shiny home record and my love of Darren Helm (seriously, the Helm/Miller/Abdelkader line? Would have punished the third pairing for the Preds).
