Yeah, I'm off Wednesday and Thursday and was initially excited about that
But then I did the math in my head of "I am off Monday nights + opening Tuesday is technically opening late Monday night = midnight release"
It's fun to do midnight releases again. There's a new theater in my town, and The Avengers was my first midnight opening since King Kong back in 2005. Forgot what fun experiences they could be.
now half my shit is creator-owned and even sweet tooth is ending
why aren't you reading Daredevil or Wolverine and the X-Men or Uncanny X-Force or Venom or the new Captain Marvel series?
i can't get into waid's daredevil i don't like x-men who's writing captain marvel and venom is a thing that i'm lukewarm about and that is barely enough to get me to pick up a book

Yeah, it appears that way. You actually see him on the ground, and Peter screaming for an ambulance. I also just read a review on snippet on i09 and it said he kicks the bucket.
I was wanting him to last. Hope Stacy doesn't get taken out, too.
i don't think you understand one of the most basic and iconic pieces of spider-man's origin
also Venom is awesome because it is about war vet Flash Thompson who lost his legs in Iraq being given the symbiote in order to jump into war zones for America
what I'm saying is your problem with Marvel is less Marvel's fault than it is yours
yeah that's fine
i never said it was because their shit sucked
also my problem w/ daredevil is that my intro to daredevil (besides the miller/JRJR man without fear mini which was titillating to a young buttlord) was the last run
and it's just such a huge switch in tone that it feels weird and i just can't get into it

HMMMMMM captain marvel sounds ok
but the venom thing i've read a couple issues and it was alright but nothing that i was like "hell yeah buyin this"
Sadly there are zero places to rent video games in my city anymore and I'm not about to pay for a mail rental service for just games.
Which sucks because I'd really love to play this, but I can't see myself dropping $60 on a game I know I probably won't spend more than 2 weeks with. (granted it'll be a very full two weeks. I'm a teacher, it's the summer and I've got nothing else to do)
That and I just dropped $25 on the Marvel Select Spider-Man figure because I've always loved big-eyed Spider-Man, that and I already have the MS Modern Thor and I really love the MS Green Goblin figure, so I'll likely get that too.
I bought the first 7 trades of Ultimate Spider-Man, some of the new Journey into Mystery, there was a sale on Atomic Robo so I picked up a bunch of that. And my normal pull list, AvX, Defenders, Wonder Woman.

You're gonna feel really silly when they have a 99 cent Ultimate Spidey sale next week.
They always put that stuff on sale when the movies come out.

Okay I have spent an hour with the console version of this game, here are my early impressions:
Combat - Not great. They tried really hard to ape batman's combat (hit y to dodge when the enemies have lightning bolts over their heads, keep hitting x + a direction to extend your combos, etc) but due to the fact that peter is all over the goddamn place, you never feel like you are in control with what you are seeing. It honestly feels like you are mashing x and just watching spidey bounce all over the room until the enemies all die.
Graphics - Good! Draw distance is just fine, the lighting is well done, spidey looks great and the motion blur when you web sling is well implemented. It is definitely the best looking spidey game I have played.
Now basically the only thing we all care about:
Web slinging - Okay. It is NOT spider-man 2. I would put it on par with Web of Shadows. While your web definitely connects to nothing, you at least have to be below the rooftops of the surrounding buildings, so it isn't like you can just web sling over a big ol' park. Also it is somewhat physics based so if you let go/use it at the right time you will move faster and jump higher. Spider-man spins and twirls all over the place while you do it. He will also run against buildings if he grazes them while swinging and whatnot. What I really like is the camera is pulled much closer to spidey so you really feel the rush and sense of vertigo as you swing around town. The mechanics may not be on par with spider-man 2 (or even ultimate), but it is damn fun!
Finally, I want to talk about 'web rush'. I love web rush. Hit the right bumper to quickly zip yourself towards something. Spidey will react appropriately to various objects - ie, dangle from perches, crouch down on tiny peaks, etc. HOLD down the right bumper to slow down time and actually plan where you want to zip to. An outline of spidey will then be displayed in the world letting you know exactly where you are goring to go and what you are going to look like when you get there. It is very neat.
There is also some sort of 'free running' thing going on in this game where spidey will automatically jump/vault/slide under or over objects as you run around.
That said there IS a jump button and you jump very high. You never seem to take fall damage from anything, though.
It has only been an hour so I have no idea what kind of power ups are in the game. I don't know if there are general traversal power ups or just combat power ups.
If you have any questions just ask and I will try my best to answer them!

i gotta say, to make the most of web slinging in this game you gotta combine it with web rush while you're swinging around. swinging already feels pretty cool, but combine that with being able to snap to various objects and include them in your traversal of the city seamlessly is fucking cool as hell.
yeah combat is pretty so-so. it's obviously taking the arkham games' approach and ripping it off pretty shamelessly, but it's more fun than most any other spidey combat i've ever played so i'm fine with it. it is very brainless, but at the very least spider-man's animations during combat are spot on and you do some really cool stuff.
It picks up where I guess the movie ends. Within the first few minutes there seemed to be 3 major plot point spoilers so if you are wary, wait until you see the movie.
That said, none of the spoilers were surprising and have all been done about a million times in various spider-man media

this is actually very deliberate on waid's part
daredevil has been this serious noir dead-girlfriend crime drama for a very long time, since frank miller almost, and waid decided that's long enough and it needs a lighter tone
hopefully the shift in tone makes more sense in context? a lot of the serious stuff is extremely good, and if that's what like there's heaps of it you could read instead

I guess since 90% of people get next Wednesday off they'll be more likely to go to the movies Tuesday night.
That's the only thing I can think of.
that was a really well done take on the origin
I'm not working the next day, so it works out for me. I'd be waiting for Saturday if not for that, and I hate waiting.
But then I did the math in my head of "I am off Monday nights + opening Tuesday is technically opening late Monday night = midnight release"

Because I AM
I love spider man games

I'm wary of playing it though because it supposedly takes place after the movie

do you hate that matt's not a completely worthless asshole anymore, or the fact that he's not the leader of a group of ninja assassins
she is also writing a Captain Marvel/Spider-Man team-up for Avenging Spider-Man which will also be out in July
read about it here: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=39047

It's like you have no soul.
Also read Uncanny X-Force and Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers. Those books are super good too.

The developers keep bringing up SM2 in reference, and that and Ultimate were easily the best Spider-Man games
Shattered Dimensions was pretty bad and I never even bothered with Edge of Time

I've spent $110 in the last WEEK. SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME
what have you been reading

I need to catch up with that series
what are you trying to tell me

They're all of the place, but I've never used one because I rent all movies digitally now and I didn't think these things had games.
If anyone here does play it, post some thoughts.

Does Spidey waffle randomly while swinging around/fighting?
Because I love me some Spider-Waffles.
