Urgh. My boss has this habit of sloping off from the shop. For example, if it is a quiet day (any day other than Friday and Saturday) she will go home to "do paperwork". And then when its inevitably only me and the delivery driver and it gets busy then there is no one else there to cover! Then the next day her husband will tell me "she didn't do paperwork you know, she just went to bed and watched telly". And then she gets really cross if I need to call her about something like a price or what she wants to do about such-and-such because she is not there and gets cross if I make decisions about things.

At one stage she turned part of the shop into an office, out of the way, for her to do her paperwork because she admitted herself to me that she got distracted at home, and then if I did need to ask anything she'd be here, but also getting paperwork done in a work environment free from distraction. Great idea! Of course when I got back from my holiday two weeks ago the office was gone because she never once used it despite having bought a second computer for it and putting all her paperwork there. She never used it once in about three months.

Today she has been off again with "tummy ache" and when I tried to call her to ask if a funeral price was okay, no answer. And yet I just know that the price I've taken will be wrong but what the hell else am I supposed to do when I'm the only qualified person there?

    Arrrgh.

    Stage a coup!

A nice quiet day of tech support. Although one person had extreme difficulty identifying an ethernet cable and then plugging one in to a laptop.

    Middle and high school.

Met with the Alexandria school district as well as DC.
Has she considered dancing around to Van Halen's Hot For Teacher?

Well that is an image I'm going to hold in my heart.

Back when I ran the news show for my high school I used "Hot for Teacher" as the song during the opening credits over a montage of crusty old teachers

I got away with it for 2 weeks

It's actually really important that you bring your silver gun because it breaks up the black of your suit, nobody will even notice if you bring your black gun

just the idea of an internship fills me with fear and anxiety. how long do you have to work before you earn the right to be paid?

Any decent internship will pay you immediately. Unpaid internships are pretty much a scam. I don't care if there's some industries where that's expected, it's still a scam. We've got two programmer interns who are both paid.

    I was secret-shopped again.

The shopper loved me again as well.

This is GREAT for my ego (I've scored higher than anyone else in the region!) but does me no tangible good because I don't technically work for the store.

Still, feels pretty good to be validated.

Oh my god, now my boss had just text me asking about a wedding this weekend which she hasn't sorted out and I couldn't tell her about because she took all the information away from me two months ago and said she'd do it herself when I am the one who actually does the consultations.

I am having a mental breakdown.

Applied for a library position! I must have gone over the application dozens of time, I'm still nervous I did something wrong, haha. I think I have a good shot at this, I've pretty much done this job exactly before (for no pay), the head librarian likes me and encouraged me to apply, and the pay is nice. Wish me luck :)

I don't know why you'd even bother with the second step.

@Liiya the appropriate response is to return a politely worded text indicating you have no information regarding that wedding as she (your boss) took the entire portfolio two months ago.

If she's the boss, let her go down with the ship.

Or mutiny and throw her off the ship into shark infested waters. Whatever you do, don't leave her on an island where rum smugglers store their stuff. She'll get off and go on adventures with Legolas and the chick from Bend It Like Beckham.

I went with the target audience, which in this case I made the call that Liiya didn't see Domino, nobody under 40 saw Pride and Prejudice, and that nobody at all saw that horrid King Arthur movie. Besides that, the only films are what...the Pirate movies I was lampooning.

I'm sticking with Bend It Like Beckham.

My history professor was so mad about the King Arthur movie.

They asked him to come in and film some of the Behind the Scenes info about King Arthur and he tore a part a lot of the crap they did.

So they cut him out, took the parts they liked about what he said, and had Kiera Knightley and the other cast mates say it to make them sound more like scholars.

CS interns get paid better than many full time employees in other fields. When I interned at Yahoo! I was making $28/hr. The lesson here is, be a programmer, don't be a not programmer.

She was in Love Actually and Atonement. You are correct I have never seen Domino though!

I do let her go down with the ship with most things, I really do. And I would love to send that text back. But this is a wedding and this is an individual's big day. I think its sorted now...? I dunno. Doing my head in.

Today a lady came in and said "The other lady you work with, is she in? No? Oh, she did some funeral flowers last week for my dad, they were lovely and got lots of compliments" "Oh, that late so and so? White lilies and purple lisianthus? I did that" "You did? Oh well they were lovely, thank you!"

Why so surprised lady, why so surprised? Not letting my boss take the credit for my work.

I just got off the phone with a lovely bloke who has a vacancy for a Senior developer, which is what I'm looking for. Paying more money than I'm currently on. Working from home.

This is pretty much my ideal role, I'm just so excited about it.

Edit: excited because of the work I'd be doing I should point out, from what he was saying I'd be working on some really interesting stuff. The fact I could work in my underwear is just a bonus.
