I think I am nearly done with Alan Wake! Gonna take a Wake Break before doing American Nightmare, what game should I crack open next of these three choices; Saints Row 3, Driver SF, Arkham City (Yeah I still haven't finished it) Quantum Conundrum or The Longest Journey.
Speaking of which, Green Man is saying my order couldn't be completed and contact my card provider etc. I feel like this sort of wonky thing has happened in the past with them, but does anyone remember what the issue is? Or is the solution just "use paypal"?

I'm guessing QC is the shortest of the bunch, so probably that.
I've been playing Far Cry 2 a bit, and it's not really holding my interest. It reminds me a lot of Just Cause 2, but without the mass destruction/grappling/parachuting that made Just Cause 2 fun. I think my main problem is that the guard posts re-fill as soon as your out of sight and that is really getting annoying.
I'm wondering if the game picks up after a bit, or not?
I played it and felt largely the same. Has some interesting bits here and there (the fire is awesome!), but missions are lacking, sometimes you're sent in missions really far and transportation is slow, and that's not counting the amount of people ambushing and chasing you on jeeps. It's more annoying than anything.
I think annoying describes FC2 perfectly. It's a fun game but the constant respawns and other things really hurt it. After just a mission or two you're a godless killing machine but you still have to stop constantly to take out the guard posts and small armies of random guys that have decided to chase you. It's like in Saints Row or GTA when you're heading somewhere and some random car hits you. It's possible to ignore it, but more often than not you're going to stop to get revenge or swap for a new ride.
You know... I'm trying to think of anything, other than Borderlands 2, than I'm looking forward to coming out this fall..... Nothing on PC is ringing a bell except for the next Sim City, whenever that is. And Skylanders Giants for my son... OHGOD PC GAMING IS DYING! Actually, what is coming out this fall on steam besides Borderlands 2?
I kind of petered out on Ys Oath when I saw the 2nd dungeon was just crawling with flying enemies, who are just no fun to fight. I'll probably power through it some day down the line but it knocked out my enthusiasm for the current time.
Wind magic is super strong against them, and they tend to move to you on the Y axis if you're in the air, so it's not so bad! I understand, though.
Also, a nonmoving jump + attack does a circle slash that's good for hitting airborne baddies.
Well. Wind Magic is kinda towards the end of the third dungeon.

hey that's where i am... also yes flying enemies are the devil. i may have to revise that statement if the game at any point actually makes me fight a devil
If you like Oath in Felghana, you owe it to yourself to throw more money at Falcom and XSeed by getting Ys Origin. ...the bosses are much more manageable as a whole so you'll rarely be stymied for long.
Interest in Origin++. I've been playing Oath, but the bosses are really hard on normal difficulty. I like the (admittedly mostly minor) challenge of fighting enemies on normal difficulty, but I've got no chance of getting through the bosses. I can generally barely beat the boss on my second or third (or fourth) try on easy, but the enemies do ridiculously little damage. If I've just upgraded armor, I can run through the levels with everything chasing me, not taking any damage.

Borderlands 2 is the big one for me, since Bioshock Infinite has shifted to 2013. I'm expecting Torchlight 2 to be out before the end of the year, and there are some cross-platform titles I'm interested in (Darksiders 2, Assassin's Creed 3).

Well, lets see here. We have Sleeping Dogs, Darksiders 2, Borderlands 2, Far Cry 3, Assassins Creed 3, Dishonored, Hitman Absolution and Dark Souls. Sure, they're not exclusive but they're rad.

OK, as predicted, @Taramoor has answered both anagrams and the cryptic clue within two hours. I take my hat off to your puzzlin' skills.

I've been playing my way through GTA IV lately (as you can probably tell by the sig), and I think I've finally reached the last mission. Buuut, I can't get past it.
For those who've played it,
it's just after the wedding, where you're going after Dmitri (I chose not to ice him earlier).
If I didn't know any better, I'd say this last one was designed intentionally to piss off players and send them screaming from the game in frustration.
First of all, it pops the mission on you out of the blue, you don't get to pick when to do it - you get a call, and then it's on. After it comes up, you can't go back to the safehouse and save, so if you're low on health/armour/ammo, you'll have to drive across town to stock up before driving back across town to the first goal... every time you restore from your last save. What then follows is a car chase, a shootout at an old warehouse with a shit-ton of goons, a boat chase, a helicopter chase, and another shootout in the park (where there are inexplicably large numbers of well-armed police everywhere, hiding behind trees and hedges). If at any point you get killed, or your target escapes, you get to start over from the beginning. Well, not quite - it skips the first car chase for you. And doesn't give you back any of your health, armour, or weapons when you restart. Which leaves me with zero chance of finishing it after a restart. Which makes me need to restore my last save, have the mission pop up again, go get ammo and armour, drive to the goal, and do the whole damn thing all over again.
I did this four or five times last night before realizing I was yelling "GET IN THE FUCKING BOAT, NIKO!" to an empty room at 2am, and went the hell to bed.
Now, I've pretty thoroughly enjoyed this game, up to this point, but if I don't make it through this after another evening's striving, I think I'm done. For such an otherwise amazing game, it seems like a ludicrous and sadistic oversight on part of the designers to have omitted a checkpoint system - at least for the longer missions, like this one.
I really want to meet the guy who made that call, so I can bite part of his face off. Every time he'd look in the mirror and see that bite out of his face, he'd remember to add checkpoints to his next game. It would be a community service, really.
Does... does Saint's Row 2/3 have checkpoints? If so, I think that feature (ignoring all the rest) would probably make 'em superior to the GTA games.
Does anyone know if GTA V will have checkpoints? If not, I think I'm gonna pass.

Either FO game you go is fine, because you just go and mod that bastard to do what you like.
More enemies? No problem!
More guns? No problem!
More challenge? No problem!
More places to explore? No problem! boobiesporn mod Wholesome fun? No problem!

I had that same problem @testsubject23. One particular mission that would restart into a 2 min "follow that car" that felt like 10 min drove me to quit.
@Taramoor, just...just watch your back around Prof. Moriarty, alright?
I think SR3 has checkpoints? Your manual saves tell you they'll save before the start of the mission you're on, but I think they have checkpoints for the autosave or something.
Can someone describe it to me? What's the combat like? What does the trailer mean by no healing items? Is it the kind of game you need a controller for?

SR3 is the game GTA4 should've been. It has checkpoints, running random people over for pocket change, varied missions, good music, all the things you love about GTA. But it also has a giant dildo sword and a shotgun that shoots sharks as weapons. Plus it doesn't have the picture below...

Just some advice, I ran through both Ys games during the Steam sale (loved em by the way) - remember that it is an RPG and you need to level up. Meaning actually kill those enemies chasing you. There was a certain point for me where the bosses went from ridiculous (taking 10 minutes, doing like 1 damage per hit and having to dodge all of their attacks) to what I imagine is supposed to be their actual difficulty on normal.
edit: This may sound like ridiculously basic advice, but I am only giving it because I forgot to do this during my playthrough and was getting really frustrated by how difficult some of the bosses seemed.
Thanks @Dahkath for the Bioshock. I'm sure both Bioshock 1 & 2 are marvelous games.
Argh! Feel like my luck on steamgifts is kind of losing control. Thanks to all the classy folks all around. Time for me to keep the ball rolling too! (Damn wrong timing on Ys one. Any methods to extend it?)

It'd be pretty cool if Xseed brought us Ys I & II on Steam, although I imagine people who got into the series with Oath in Felghana and Origins would be taken aback by the "bump into enemies" style of combat. They've definitely been hinting at other Ys games coming to Steam.
Still, that game has one of my favorite pieces of game music ever:

I realize this. But I'd upgraded all my armor and had been grinding for three levels and was still unable to make much progress on the boss. My skillz just aren't leet enough.
Edit: It also seems to be somewhat poorly balanced in that the bosses are either neigh impossible or ridiculously easy. The guy in the storeroom suddenly started taking tons more damage and dishing out a fraction of the pain after my first bout of grinding. Not a lot of ground in between.

You know, I actually didn't mind the crazy social mini-games. They were a nice break from driving places and shooting mans. The get-here-in-two-minutes-or-I'm-pissed part kind of sucks, but I can whup ass at bowling.
I did notice, and I don't know if this is just coincidence or what, but it was almost always when I was juuuuust pulling up somewhere to do a mission, that I'd get a call to go do some trivial nonsense instead. Like they wait 'til you're good and far away before demanding a visit. But that could just be perception, on my part.
