Easy cash. You might know something is worth five grand, that doesn't mean you know someone willing to pay that five grand. A pawn shop takes away the bother of actually finding a customer, and gives you cash immediately.

To have a show with a title that makes people misread it as something porn related then let down when it's old people bargaining over useless items.

    Because drugs.

Honestly, I don't know, that show is awful. They scam the people coming in over and over, that's the show. And after a while you start to root for the guys in the store because the customers are just so fucking stupid.

yeah they bring some appraiser in and they appraise it

so the person selling the item is all "i'll sell it to you for that"

and then the pawn shop guy hems and haws about how he's got to make some money on it and etc etc

and the person walks out with like a third or less of the appraised value

I only have two shounen fightan' series that I particularly care for

Soul Eater, because even though it's dumb it's got a really fun aesthetic going on

And Busou Renkin, because the authors' editors forced him to write another fighting series after the success of Kenshin, so he passive-aggressively wrote one that completely takes the piss out of every aspect of the genre until they finally cancelled it, much to his satisfaction.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

    uhhhhhhh

hit me up if you have questions

Well, I can say this without spoilers:

I avoided watching Twin Peaks for over ten years now. Why? Because someone spoiled the series for me. Except, apparently they didn't. Apparently they spoiled a completely different show (I googled it just now). One I will probably never watch, so that's fine. But I had this idea in my head from the very first episode that the show was going to end a certain way. And it had nothing at all to do with that.

That said, I did think a few episodes ago "you know what would suck, if..." and pretty much predicted the last scene, which I then abandoned because I was sure the last scene was going to be something else based on the spoiler someone told me over a decade ago.

I need to find Fire Walk With Me.

I will say that it was super bullshit, and I think explicitly why I stopped reading at that point.

Though, to be fair, I like the fact that Naruto uses the power of pluck and empathy to convert all his enemies.

It was just a super cop-out that they revived everyone.

I have twin sons. The parents of single children very frequently like to try to explain to me the things that are actually easier when you have twins. It's annoying, especially since I don't make a habit if complaining about the many many things that are more difficult when you have two identically aged pre pre schoolers.

I can't even imagine how that must have colored your viewing of Twin Peaks.

But yes, definitely track down Fire Walk With Me. It's a weird movie and kind of unpleasant in places but it also has some really great scenes and if you're paying attention it does kind of satisfactorily explain what's going on and how [character] will get out of [situation].

    Ah, lunch was awesome today.

Tuesdays are bread day, which means we get bread instead of rice. Which means generally they are not Japanese meals, so it is a wonderful change of pace.

Today was awesome. It was like rye bread and chicken seasoned in a western style and then chowder to dip the bread in.

    Perfect cold weather food.

@Drez St. Elsewhere was a show about an underfunded hospital in Boston. Rather than being about medical mysteries, it was more of a drama about the everyday lives of all these people who worked there, and was famous for being really well-written and intelligent about various social issues; the producers went on to create "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "Oz." It was kind of ahead of its time - it's much more like a modern serial drama than most of the action or mystery stuff that was popular in the 80s. It also launched the careers of several actors, including a few you may have heard of. And it had great theme music:

The end was controversial, but it's really just kind of a gimmick out of left field, like the end of "Newhart." It wasn't actually a show about a kid and a snowglobe.

The rationale they give for that is that if you sell it at an auction, you'll need to pay auction fees anyway and end up with about what the pawn shop is offering you.

What really blows my mind is how people walk in saying "I'm not selling for less than $X", then they end up selling for a fraction of that and walk out saying "it's a fair price, I'm happy with it." It's like a psychology experiment.

But you have to keep in mind that there's nothing forcing anyone to sell. I've seen people walk out without selling. People know the appraised value of their stuff. If they decide to take the money... whatever.

I do like the show though. It's entertaining, and some of the stuff they bring in is really cool and has interesting backstories.
