Participants needed for psychology survey on video game use.
Hello, thank you for taking an interest in this survey. I am currently a student at the University of Central Lancashire conducting a study looking at the relationships between game play habits, preferences and individual characteristics.
The study only involves completing a survey which should only take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please only complete this questionnaire if you play video games regularly (at least one hour per week).
All data is kept completely anonymous. If you would like more information and would like to complete the questionnaire visit
Thank you for your time.
(mod approved)
Edit: Survey is now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated.
On an unofficial note, I just need to make clear that I am not trying to prove that video games cause people to be violent or whatever. I am a gamer myself, so that is not my intent.
Only one hour a week is considered regular? Man. Maybe I play too many games.
I'll take the survey though, for sure. I appreciate you asked mod permission first. No idea if it was necessary or not, but it seems a polite thing to do, so thank you!
Yes, this is for a research project. I am just going until I feel like I have collected enough responses, but I am hoping to have enough by mid January.

Well, I am looking for a wide range of gamers. That was the minimum amount I felt like I could still count as regular.

This dude was cool and got permission to post this, so I'd take it as a personal favor of you gave him the same respect he gave asking in the first place. Fill out the survey or don't, that's up to you, but don't shit up the thread.
I don't actually consider a game's level of violence in my preference for whether or not I want to play it, at least not consciously
Now this has gotten me htinking about my own habits and why I like the htings I like
THis introspection itches
I made a big mistake forgetting to include a 'no preference' option on the question you are referring to. It was too late to change before I realised it was a problem. I will make sure to talk about this in the write up though.
I do have a question regarding the survey on page 7.
Regarding "Please indicate to what extent each of the following items presently correspond to the reasons why you play video games:"
I'm not sure what #17 is trying to convey.
"17. Because it's the way I've chose to acquire abilities in other areas that are important to me."
Is this item trying convey that the reasons why one might play video games is to gain skills in other aspects of real life?
Or is it implying that one might play video games because of a design that allows you to focus on different chosen in-game abilities?
Now that I've typed this question out, I'm thinking it's supposed to imply the former, but I dunno.

What happened to you, Rank? You used to be about the music, man! Now it's all forum-hookers and solid-gold-blow with you!
Incidentally, I will be filling this out tonight as soon as I get done packing for the holiday weekend.
Cool, I'll do this when I'm on a computer but I'd be more than happy to fill this out.
Is this for like a social psych perspective or what?
Or just random interest for a project? Like are you interested in going to continue this research topic if the current stuff bears fruitful?
I'm curious cause I enjoyed my topic I did but really hated the work involved.
For a Masters project, you have to choose your own research question. So as I am a gamer myself, I thought video games would be a good area to look at. I guess it is good idea to have a researcher who is actually a gamer to look at video games.
Seemed a lot of repeat or redundant questions in section 7
I realize that this is sometimes used to get a sense of consistency from the survey participant but it tends to set me off balance and I'll end up answering differently anyway without intending to. Not really a criticism or anything, just thought I'd point it out.
Also, yeah, there was definitely a question in there while could have use a n/a option.
"Please mark below how violent you prefer the content and graphics in the video games you play to be"
The survey probably could use an option that says "I do not consider the level of violence when selecting a video game" or "Level of violence is not important when selecting a video game" because honestly it's not a characteristic I consider when making a game purchase
Alternately, having an additional question or questions about what level of importance people give violence, like maybe when ranking selection options from a list

Yeah, I've already commented on this. Not having a no preference option was a big mistake. Too late to change it now though.

Thanks. If anyone wants me to message them the results when I have them, just leave me a message. It will be few months before I have the results analysed though.

I'd like to see them, too.
Is there any reason you can't post the results here in the thread?

Guess I could. Just wasn't sure if it lets everyone know when the thread has been updated.
Filled up the survey, agree that I had not reflected much about the violence level in games and that a n/a option could have been good. Sounds like an interesting research to me! Best of luck.

I was filling this out with respect to video games and everything was peachy until I remembered I'm also a hard-tackling midfield enforcer who has something of a reputation in my football team.
In conclusion, videogames don't have nearly the same effect on me as sport, but it's socially acceptable to be 'a different person' when everything is left on the field.
I found it surprisingly difficult to estimate my hours per week, both for now and one year ago. I play a lot but the actual amount tends to jump around a fair bit

Please feel free to ask any questions however.
Or when do you need this done by?

see you're joking about this, but mobas are the only game to make me actually angry ever
also i play like at least 40 hours a week i'd say
They are a blast if you play with friends who also don't get mad at video games.

This is what I am hoping for. The wider range of people I get, the more reliable I can assume significant results are.
