Energy Shield was the go-to defensive stat for a ton of end game builds because, at higher levels, there was more energy shield on items than other defensive stats. So what they did is they lowered the amount of energy shield that can roll on items and increased the amount of armor that can roll and brought it up to parity with evasion.
armour doesn't block magic + big hits still hit very hard: therefore it's only useful against things you don't give a shit about anyway
evasion is random chance and again, can't block spells unless you get a perk for it (I think): therefore it's varying in usefulness and isn't reliable enough
ES regenerates, blocks everything but chaos damage and is always 100% effective no matter what hits it.
Like leaving numbers out of the discussion for a second it's not hard to see why at a base level ES is fucking awesome compared to the other two.
armour needs to block bigger blows better and have some perks that make it work against elemental stuff (it does block physical spells btw).
Evasion needs a base line garunteed effect to it so it's not as unreliable and even then it'd be a bit of a gimmicky thing. If you re-worked it to be like "this is your evade bar, it goes down when you would have being hit and re-fills after a given period of time) so they could boost the dodge % significantly but make it more of a kiting resource.
After the release what characters did people roll with, and what level did you attain?!
I want to try an ES/Evasion hybrid that would feel kinda like that mechanic -- seems like a good match because you can get high % mitigation and a recharging buffer for the spikes. Dunno how the numbers play out.
At first I thought I was just unlucky, but I think this might be a bug.
I think you'll still be able to pull off some cool spell depending on how you go on the tree.
XBL:Phenyhelm - 3DS:Phenyhelm
I've had health vials drop..so, that'd be a really weird bug.
Been getting my fair share of vials, as well.
I'm playing in regular league if anyone around that level is, add me, in game is benevicious.
Are damage numbers turned off by design decision? Its kind of hard to tell when my green torpedo spell is hitting people (agi skill i forgot what its called).

I'm dead serious."
Have you tried using the torrent to finish the download process by pointing the application at the folder containing what you have downloaded already via the patcher?
I was a big fan of FFX's novel (at the time) Sphere Grid system, and I can't wait to get my groove on in Path of Diablo-3-Except-With-Less-Bullshit.
I apparently already messed up my build, by pumping up +Dex passives on my Ranger rather than the +dmg%, but she'll be dead soon and I won't worry about it. I didn't realize that +atts is mostly useful to get to another tier of gear or gems or something.
A few observations, with some obligatory D3 comparisons:
-The atmosphere is really a lot better than D3...it really embarrasses Blizzard. Why they opted to take it in a different direction, I'll never know.
-I miss the destructible environments from D3. Granted, I've spent the whole time in the wilderness and stuff...does this ever show up in more dungeony-settings?
-The ability to reroll almost anything on an item (number of sockets, color of sockets, affixes, quality) is super awesome. It really captures the "go forth and loot" vibe that D3 missed.
-I love seeing a hundred arrows sticking out of things after I've wrought my havoc.
-I'm getting weird slowdowns? I'm on an i5 2500k and a 7950, so it may be an ATI issue, but it's obnoxious having my framerate drop from 60fps to 30fps in some places.
Only managed to hit lvl 4 before i had to come back to work
First impressions. Yeah..this is what i wanted diablo 3 to be. I am pretty stoked ill be playing it all night.
Haha no worries, mine died too. I was right before Merveil, and one of the rare siren spawners got three (!) lucky cold crits on me in a row, perma-freezing me to death. Really unlucky, but it happens.
I'm playing a duelist with one handed sword + shield and I think my spells are pretty cool. Shield charge for life
Character name: Anonthefelon
Would you be able to link some Duelist guides so I make sure not to completely fuck up assignments?
I've only just started playing myself, no guides or anything. Note that in PoE your skills are tied to items, and those can be switched around whenever you want.
As for the passive tree I've just been getting all of the one handed, attack speed and shield points in the immediate vicinity. From there I'll probably head towards the ranger area to get some more attack speed.
Can't comment on skill tree because I'm just plonking stuff in as I feel like is appropriate but the nice thing about Hardcore is that dying doesn't delete your character. It just shifts it down to the soft core league with no penalty.
As a result I'd recomend playing on the Hardcore league unless you have friends you want to play with if only as a tracker of how long you last without dying.
EDIT: Though from a non expert's glance it looks a bit weird how much HP your taking for a bow build. You could have way more flat damage and you're skipping 9% movespeed right next to thick skin.
Hey, I'm definitely a non-expert myself! I guess I lean towards health because I am the cautious sort, but I guess I can shift away from it as I go along the tree.
You seem to have a good idea of what you want to do, here's where I would go with it: pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgIBAnEEswguDq0UTRjbGY4hYCP2KLUppTIJMn4yiTWGNZI26DpSOrM64TwtQKBDnEp9TP9N407IVgRW-lfiWK9aSFuvXQBfqmCIYVJjp2egbPZuqnPhdPF35XgNeriC5IZgh3aI8YqvkAqQEZuNnaqeuZ_LogCmV6lurFmuk69stfK3PrnNxYrGrtN-3Q3dRt-_52Ptg-4O707v8PAf8kX3iPxO_MX-Cv6P
Instead of going through those dex nodes in the middle, work your way along the bottom of the tree so you can pick up Armor Master and Unwavering Stance. You might want to make a detour to pick up Blood Drinker as well, if you're going Blood Magic.
@Albino Bunny damage nodes are not important at all in this game. Survive, survive, survive is the name of the game. You can't kill things if you get one shot. Life and resist nodes are king.
I guess the build is more elemental and based on surviving hits. Also, Blood Magic. I wanted a build that would go against my cautious tendencies but still had a bunch of health.
