I watched a stream of 3.0 today. Yeah, they are STILL really phoning in the toybox stuff. It looked like complete garbage. The actual playset he ran through (the Clone Wars one) looked decent though.

BTW, is it just me or is Disney being a little dumb with the "no mixing" stuff when they let you mix Star Wars and basically screw over SW canon? Like, I saw Clone Wars Anakin fighting Darth Maul - and that was a damn cutscene! They put that in their intro! He was playing through an old-school Star Wars level as Ahsoka. Someone said you can even have Anakin fight Darth Vader, which is like, WTF... My comment was, if they are gonna allow that, why not just friggin' allow you to bring Mickey or whatever in? It's dumb.

Side note, I couldn't tell if it was just something weird with the stream, but the game looked buggy as shit. The graphics were CONSTANTLY flickering, like, really bad (like it was having trouble rendering stuff every so often for a second or two). I *think* this was the PS4 version, which is a little sad. But maybe it was just the stream not recording right? I dunno.

I think at this point... I just want the figures more than the game. 2.0 was kinda meh. Didn't really expand as much on the main game as I was hoping. 3.0 doesn't look that much different.

Releasing on every single platform is what's killing the game potential. It's a nightmare to do that kind of dev.

But the flip side is that it's a game primarily aimed at children so it makes sense that they would still support the prior generation if possible (and the Wii U for that matter). It's getting pretty good reviews this round though.

Has there been any word on a PC version this time?

Picked up the starter set, Sabine, Kanan, and Tron. I would have skipped Tron, but Target was 2 for 20 when I picked up Sabine.

Finished the Tutorials for the Hub and then played until I was off the first planet in the Clone Wars set. After that I did some of the random challenges on the Hub World. I have the Toy Box Takeover disc from pre-order but I haven't played it yet.

So here are a few things that I took away from it.

I didn't have any flickering that Warlock82 mentioned (I'm on XboxOne).

Driving is way improved. I look forward to the Speedway stuff.

Combat is 100% improved. It's probably only going to shine on the 3.0 characters but wow. The combos are fun to try and pull off. Things like jump into the air, force pull, slash, slash, and the force charge. I unloced a move where Sabine jumps into the air, flips upside down, and then spins around shooting everything near her.

In the Hub World I played a Double Dragon-like side view beatum up. It was a lot of fun.

The little I touched in the Clone Wars Playset was more fun than all of the 2.0 ones. For reference the Avengers set bored me, I thought Spiderman was a little better, and Guardians was the best.

I spent a long time looking through the in game store. Lots of obscure references from Old School Disney cartoons (There is an item from All the Cats Join in!) to some obscure characters from Star Wars. Heck there is a character from the Ewok cartoon (Sadly it doesn't look like there are Ewok sidekicks).

In the Ghost vehicle one person can fly and another can shoot from the turret. That's probably only interesting to me because I'm in love with that ugly ass ship.

Finally I watched a lot of videos about the new Toy Box. That Path Tool is a game changer. Another simple thing that should have always been there. If you have a vehicle disc down while building, you can set the vehicle spawner to create the disc item.

So you can finally create a toybox that has disc vehicles without having to always have the disc on the reader? Does it work for tools and packs as well? That has been something that has always annoyed me and made the power discs practically worthless.

I don't know if it works for tools and packs. I saw the vehicle part on one of the devoper videos. Besides playing with some of the options in the Interior I haven't done any creating in the toybox yet. I can look but it will most likely have to be tomorrow night before I can try.

Apparently there are almost 100 sidekicks?
I received The Evil Queen in a random gift, and now she is the Carrot Growing Specialist
My Robin Hood is armed with an Advanced Ricochet Star and his Roman Helmet, but I really would like a Muppet sidekick whom I will stuff all my food into to level him up.

I also found a Camouflage hat which makes me invisible if I pick up my sidekick, but it's very high level...
And a Medic hat so that I can heal...

The worst thing is taking all my minis out of their figure display cases in my display cabinet to put them in the new Hall of Heroes for more experience...

And yes, Sabine's combat combos are very impressive.

Can't Disney pay Platinum studios to make a combat engine where we can have Bayonetta-like combat with our minis?
A bit like that Gamecube platformer that used the Donkey Conga bongos for controlling.
Different game style, same peripherals :winky:

Haven't played 1.0 or 2.0 but wow am I enjoying 3.0. Suddenly I need all of the characters. Taking Boba Fett into Nightmare Before Christmas land was worth every penny I spent this weekend.

So I was able to get the three Playsets for 2.0 and I bought the 1.0 starter playset recently. What are the thoughts on the 1.0 playsets I don't already have?

I'm missing Toy Story, Lone Ranger, and Cars. The one I'm thinking about buying at some point is Lone Ranger as I love western themed games. Are the others worth grabbing at some point or skippable? The only figure I have from any of the sets is Buzz at the moment so to play the actual story I'd have to grab a character or two as well.

  • cravipatcravipat CFKPW? Registered User regular
Unless you really like the driving portion of 1.0, Cars is completely skippable in my mind. It been a long time since I've played the Toy Story one but the whole thing is Star Command space themed if that sounds interesting. What I remember the most about the Lone Ranger one was wondering where the next mission was after the "finale". It felt like the shortest of the playsets.

If you are interested in building in the later versions of the toybox then the playsets are probably worth picking up cheap. In 2.0, and I would assume 3.0 as well, just putting the playset on the reader unlocks all of the toybox content for that world. Again Cars has the short end of the stick but the other two have some pretty interesting stuff to build with.

Toy Story being Star Command themed is sort of a bummer. I would pick it up in a heartbeat if it was stuff around a house giant sized to scale to the toys. I really like that feeling of being Micro Machine scale in a game.

And yes, it would be mostly for the unlocks in the Toy Box.

Maybe I'll watch some Youtube clips - but it does look like I could grab both non-Cars playsets for $6 each or so, that seems like a safe investment.

The digital version of 3.0 is only $20 until January I think. Then it should go up to $30. That's for PS and Wii U. It's already $30 for Xbox

Wow, I just assumed the $20 PSN price was a one week thing so I went ahead and snatched it since I played both 1.0 (360) and 2.0 (PS4). I was planning to just do toy box stuff with old characters until the playsets hit their first sale but that intro sequence is really testing my resolve about holding out on the clone wars set.

I've only done the hub tutorials for the INterior and the sidekicks but I have a question -- is there an easy way to get to my farm from the tutorial or is that green door over by the farm the easiest way?

My wife and I are loving the way the INterior guests ask Disney trivia and give rewards. As two adult Disney Park nuts, this is what we've wanted from Infinity all along. Answering a question about the Haunted Mansion and getting the hitchhiking ghost sidekicks was the best thing. I still wish they would make more retro playsets though, like how Jack Skellington and Aladdin have figures but never had a proper playset.

You can plant crops on the plots that are on the hub. You can also just start a new toybox and put farm plots there, that is probably the easiest way to do it. It saves you from having to start at the hub and then go to the farm.

The trivia is fun. I like that they mix it between Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars.

That's awesome advice about making a toybox dedicated to it. I assumed you had to plant in that one area because of how it said you have to pay 5000 sparks to use the neighboring plots in the tutorial area.

    Thanks!

Anakin, both in the game and the toy figure, looks a little off to me, because his design doesn't have the sharp angles that I associate with The Clone Wars and previous Infinity characters.

Ahsoka is spot on, though. Like she just stepped out of the show.

I think the figure Anakin looks better Than he does in game but that isn't much of a complaint for me. He is usually too busy being a whirlwind of death for me to notice.

I am bummed we didn't get a Captain Rex. Not every Clone Wars character had to be a Jedi.

So there are a bunch of Astromechs in the Toybox store, but I don't see a Chopper. With all the Rebels stuff included this is a pretty big let down for me. I'm still going to make a Rebels toybox but I want a Chopper.

So I finally unboxed and played a bit of my 3.0 starter pack. The game is just as glitchy and weird as its been since 1.0, so nothing has seemingly changed on that front. I dunno if that's just the Wii U have problems or what. Sometimes I wish I could rent a PS4 for a week to see what things are like on the greener side of the grassfield.

As usual, the first-boot intro is really cool, though nothing will beat the awe and wonder of the original game's release.
