I just remembered something that could be a problem for this event.
    http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/01/hub’s_‘drinking_game’_ban_puts_taverns_bind

Boston’s becoming a town devoid of nightspot fun as some bars in the city eliminate board games and water pong, fearful that city regulators will come crashing in and accuse the pubs of sponsoring drinking games.

State law prohibits “any game or contest which involves drinking” — vague wording that critics said could allow the city’s licensing board to punish anyone holding a beer while playing a bar game.

(Apologies if this news has already been brought to your attention)

This has more to do with actual physical games in bars like the ones mentioned, not themed bar crawls.

I am literally only registered on this forum for the PAX East PokeCrawl; Red Gold four years running. Feel free to ask questions regarding Boston Area bars, restaurants, attractions, etc around PAX East.

This hasn't even been a problem at any of the bars I've been to in Boston. It shouldn't be an issue at all.

    Important note everyone: Bring Cash!!

There will be at times 100 of us in a single bar, I can't imagine any bar would run a credit card tab at such a volume.

Cards are fine, cash is just a bit easier. These bars handle 100+ people in them on the average weekend anyway ;)

They will process cards, but yeah cash is a good idea. And I agree that the drinking game ban has really little to do with a barcrawl.

  • RidleyDragonRidleyDragon Registered User regular
Really? When I went two years ago I remember some of the bars being cash only that night.

It's a good idea in general anyway, especially when traveling, cash works everywhere.

Yeah I'm not saying cash isn't a good idea, but I used credit for at least half of the bars.

First, the good. I apologize if this thread has seemed neglected. I am in the process of hammering out the main thread as we speak. Buttons and scorecards have been sent to the printer so things continue to be in motion. ArsonBro says he 's working on the routes. Things are progressing as they should 2 weeks out from the event.

For the not so good is Team Snorlax. There have been questions about it here as well as via PM. Team Snorlax is not an official team in any capacity. It has always been a few people from IRC who have organized a very small group of people to camp one of the bars. The only hand I have in this is working with them to find a bar that can handle of them. This is not a group of 50+ people.

What is the best way to go about getting/watching for tickets from people who are signed up but cancel/can't go? Just periodically checking the eventbrite page? I want to join this so bad :(

Other than someone being awesome, there's no waiting list. Eventbrite supports it but it actually doesn't work the way it should. Continuing to watch the Eventbrite is the only other way to know when tickets open up.

That would be amazing. I have a friend that will be hanging out with me that weekend but we will figure something out if we need to. Anyone that has a spare, just shoot me an email at lauren.m.christy.lc@gmail.com. thanks so much!

Haha, I know your struggle, lchristy. I've been F5-ing for DAYS trying to nab another Red-Silver Spot for my +1. I've already started putting together my Houndoom costume/gijinka too.

    Good luck!

As someone who is almost exclusively plastic and having Crawled last year, I will affirm as the others have that credit cards are absolutely fine in my experience. The places will tab you out immediately after they hand you your drink(s) and I never had to wait a long time for my card/slip back even when there was a queue at the tender. The worst thing that happened was some wet receipts and realizing weeks later how much I did indeed tip.

However, bringing cash for a street food vendor may be critical! That hot dog that I consumed in front of Bar #3 may have saved my life.

I also have an out of state ID and that was never a problem either.

Hello! If anyone has an extra ticket they don't need, I would love to have it! This will be my first Pokecrawl.

I too am in need a of spot on any team if one opens up. I was checking the wrong pax forum for the pokecrawl thread despite having a button from last year >.<

    Uh, the $8 greasedog?

I saw that thing nearly murder a man. I am forever indebted to my Professor for steering me away from that cart.

Unless we're talking about an entirely different cart. But in retrospect, that place was war-crime SCARY.

Well I can't get my etsy shirt in time :/ so I was thinking of making one--though long sleeve. One sleeve "PokeCrawl 2013", the back "Team Blue-Silver" and a graphic on the front with the words "Gotta Blast Them All" under the graphic.

Thank god for my crafty friends, they'll figure this out!

So I totally missed the registration like a moron. If anyone has an extra ticket and needs to bail or has a friend that can't make it, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. I'll owe you a favor - meet up with me at PAX and I'll buy you a drink/lunch or some such! This was the highlight of PAX last year for me and I'd really hate to miss it.

We could be talking about an entirely different cart. Or I just have low standards in street food. Or I was that drunk. In either case, after Paper-Rock-Scissors for shots, it was eat or get sick. I went on to stayed on my feet the whole night and the next day, so the dog wasn't that bad!

I just fixed up the minor damage that my Cynthia cosplay sustained during last year's Pokecrawl, so it's all good to go! I can't express how much I'm looking forward to this! :P

I'm impressed it was only minor damage. My boring old labcoat ends up ruined/lost/etc by the end of each crawl :\

    Aww, bummer :(

Honestly, I was quite surprised myself, it's now amazingly survived 3 Pokecrawls! Granted, the wig was in a bit of a state after last year but luckily I was able to save it (this year might be it's death tho), and the rest was minor repairs to things like the hair ornaments and fixing some paint that got scuffed/scraped off. I guess I was lucky or I built it well enough to take the beating or both?... :P hehe

Quick question - if people end up with a spare ticket, isn't the protocol to let Altus know what ticket and what team so they can "go back in the pot" on eventbrite so everyone gets a fair crack at getting one? Just asking as seen quite a few people asking for spare tickets on the thread, so circumventing that - which would make my broken F5 very sad! :)

I was wondering about this as well. I've been frantically checking the page every day to see if anything opens.

The protocol isn't necessarily to let anyone know, it's just to cancel the ticket on eventbrite, which automatically lets it back into the pool.
