Like I get loving Nintendo and they are a really great company who makes some of my favorite games, but there is a point where you're just ignoring facts.

Nintendo took the Apple route and kept most of its earnings from the Wii liquid. They can last a long time, even on the failure of the Wii U.
seriously. to me it's looking like the wii u will be perceived as a "massive flop" like the gamecube was (modestly profitable over time, but completely unable to live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, and vastly overshadowed by other contemporary consoles). likewise, the 3DS probably isn't going to live up to the sales of the DS, but it's still doing pretty well for itself.
most of their losses right now are coming from the shitty yen-dollar exchange rate, and that's exactly as much of an issue for sony, so nintendo isn't uniquely fucked on that front
(except that sony as a whole is totally fucked given that their gaming division is the only part of the company that's turned anything close to a profit in years. i'm surprised that they didn't use the ps4 to cross-promote their other tech, like how they tried to use the ps3 to push 3D TVs.)

you need to lease a drm chip implant that will only allow you to see content that you purchased, if you try and look at any PS4 content without permission you will have a seizure
you will not be allowed to play any previously played games, or have access to memories of games you have played previously but have not purchased through playstation cloud, violation of this policy will wipe ALL personal memories except those that are sony-associated
the neurochip will have constant sonynet access, but you have to pay by the nanosecond and if you ever lose your connection the neurochip will self-destruct and wipe out everyone in a 5-mile radius
