@reneguage remember guys, no purchasing. Strictly trading pins for pins. I feel like this thread will be a useful resource in the future when more trades start happening and would rather it not be closed.
the DLC Pin is a limited edition pin only given to people as a reward for backing the penny arcade podcast at the $150 level. By the time the kickstarter ended, roughly 200 people paid that level, making this pin the most exclusive and rare pin to date.
I feel like the DLC pin is going to be one of the harder ones to find in the coming months and years. I don't think too many people paid into the kickstarter at the level necessary to get the pin.
I hope there will be an opportunity to acquire the DLC pin in some other way.
I think I have pins that would be a worth while trade for some one willing; but I'm not sure I, or they would part with them.
What are the pins above and below the Chandra head?
AFAIK all official pinny arcade pins are listed on the pinny site, they can be identified with a PA stamp on the back. The one below is Kris straubs broodhollow pin and isn't a part of the collection, unless you can confirm? Not sure about the above, looks like cthulu

Yeah, the Broodhollow and Cthulhu pins aren't official. But they were cute and I got them at PAX East so I put them in.
The last two Pax East pins I needed and traded for arrived... for this one brief fleeting moment I have a complete set.
Excited to see the new pins for prime though
I'm in the same boat. I'm wondering how close I'm going to get to keeping the set full going forward. I'll be at Prime, so I'll get the Prime set, plus a Chandra v. 3 (if they make one). Getting the individual pins from the staff is going to be a beast.

*TLDR Below, I got carried away and realized after I was done xD
I have a Prime and Chandra trade set up and the staff pins I will have to wait until next PAX AUS to trade for unfortunately.
What I am the most interested to see though is the new Vendor pins and how many there will be, the number will keep growing.
Though having a full set is going to be a more impressive achievement in years to come.
Another question I am wondering about is PAX Prime going to be the premier for pin releases?
My guess on the massive pin release was going to be in 2014.
Imagine Panel Exclusive PINS. Yep, those will be uber rare as you can't Re-Queue for those and not only that some panels only run once and at certain PAX. for example a "The Last of Us" Pin from the PAX PRIME panel or maybe a Claptrap pin from the Borderlands panel from PAX-AUS... A Panel I missed cause you had to line up 2 hours early to get a spot, or 3 different PINS for each of the Q&A Panels.
Or even think about if they had exclusive pins for sale on each of the PAX Days so you would have to attend each day to have access to them. The one Pin idea I fear is this... a pin that is awarded for asking a good question at on of the Q&A Panels. Not only will it be rare, it will be hard to obtain in fact I think that it will be rarer then the Kick Starter pin, because think of this... PAX Exclusive Q&A Exclusive awarded pins that are unique between each Q&A.
In my opinion as much as I would love to have a full set in the future I think that it's against the point of the pins, I like to look at them as tokens to show fellow PAX Attendees what vendors/panels I've seen around the con or what I have achieved to get the pin. It's like the Chandra Pin, I knew people had been to the WOTC booth if I saw the Chandra pin on their lanyard and If I didn't I would have just asked them, Same goes for the Staff Pins I would know someone would have spoken with Mike or Jerry if they had their pins.
Yep the possibilities are endless.. Yep just thought of another one, Omegathon pin, one pin for contending, one for 2nd place and one for being the all up victor... Yep, a full set is going to be impossible.
*TLDR: Basically I make the point that having a full set of pins in the future is going to be a almost impossible acivment as pin designs are going become more and more exclusive. For example PAX Panel attendee pins, Vendor Booth atendee pins, and certain pins for achievements like asking a good question at the Q&A Panels or contending in the Omegathon as well as coming 1st or second place.
Personally I think uber exclusive pins are ok, they essentially are not part of a "full set".
Generally what happens is you have a "fully obtainable set" and then you have a "limited edition set".
So you can say things like "I have the full set and 3 limiteds". Already I would not consider the DLC pin part of the set, it is a bonus pin. I have considered Omeganaut and other type pins, I don't think there is any point trying to consider these as set pins. A handful of people will have them, they would never be traded and to those people they are not necessarily Pinny Arcade pins as much as they are trophies, they may never collect another pin again.
Other than these types of very limited pins, I don't think there needs to be another tier of unobtainable pins, I think with the vast amount of pins being released, you will get a natural spread of rarity that you don't need to force the issue. Time available to you is going to be enough of a factor to miss pins and if a pin is really cool, people will gravitate to getting that pin first, leaving another pin less obtained etc, it'll just happen
I don't think we really need anything past "available at this PAX only", as we have now but the pins should be reasonably obtainable to any one attending that PAX, given they had the time, to me, time seems like the natural filter. Creating too many exclusive pins is a sure fire way to make the scene seem inaccessible to most people and cut the fan base down to a handful of hardcore collectors.
well said, i think most of us at the moment are still looking at this from a 'collectors' perspective. Once more pins are released, with different ways to get them via booths, merch, panels or exclusives etc people will naturally decide which ones they want to go for

well put and I agree with you in regards to having a full obtainable set, however there is a difference between an "obtainable set" and a "complete set"
that's what collecting is in my opinnion having barging rights with your collection.
I guess it's up to the vendors when it comes to the conditions of obtaining their pins too, I kinda like the idea of having exclusive pins that are exclusives.
In my opinnion a "complete" set is every pin pictured
So...holy shit. Good luck, everyone. This is just the PA pins. Non-PA pins are coming in another post. :-X
edit: I have my plan set out. Someone will get me a Prime set and I will trade away the kitty and logo pins. Lookouts, I would trade away all except the logo. Keep Twisp and Catsby and trade the other two.
That gives me a good amount of tradable assets.
edit: That would give me 9 tradable pins. Which means I would be 3 short of the whole staff pin set (although I don't think I want them all).

So much want.
Ok preliminary game-plan: PAX Prime set and Lookouts Set from the Merch booth (plus 2 more Core Sets, so I have 12 Pins to trade[Bonus Get: Merch Pin) and the Twisp/Catsby set online. Then begin hunting Staff with a large net. Brian will hopefully be at the Merch booth, so that should be easy. Kristin, ditto. Given that the Khoo has a panel he might not be so difficult to track down this year. I'm thinking Dave will be the hardest find.
How quickly will the Staff get used to people shouting "I've come to collect your head!" do you think?
Sweet monkies the Prime set is AWESOME. I love Baby G and T haha, the detail on Kemper scarf is also quite nice.
Lookouts is a big winner for me, I'm deep in to the comics, so that was a nice surprise. Twisp and Catsby as a online exclusive is thumbs up and also looks to come with a special lanyard.
Staff pins are not what I thought, the different art style choice is interesting, gotta give those Strip Searchers some jobs! They do look a little out of place but might not matter if the 3rd party pins aren't all drawn by Mike like the Chandra.
More interestingly, that's 14 accessible pins (if you have a spare AUS and a Prime friend :P) and the wording was unclear but I don't think Lookouts is Prime exclusive, unless they do a Daughters exclusive for East/Aus, then things get interesting, I'd be down with that + 12 staff pins that you can collect over many PAXs (it's pretty much confirmed since G/T pins didn't change that staff pins will be rotated out slowly).
Which takes us to 26 pins that I'm sure most collectors will achieve over time (maybe a year or quicker if you made a lot of friends).
Up to 14 3rd party pins to sweat over Given an average of 2hrs a pin (MTG queue), it will be tough indeed to get them all. I know you could buy a Chandra v1 at a booth but that seems to be phased out, you could not buy a Chandra v2.
Yeah I saw I think pretty much everyone at some point too but no one was hassling them for pins before, they only carry so much on their person each day. So you have to find them and get in early
Interesting tidbit, 300 DLC pins were made, 245 pins were given to backers, let's say, 1 each to PA Staff (14?). Still 41 DLC pins unaccounted for, possibly at least a handful might find their way in to a competition or two! Or even traded at an event? That would be lucky!

Don't forget the blind boxes that I believe they are releasing. I think.
tbh this seems more accessible than i had imagined.
3 new purchasable sets, easy enough
12 staff pins, if you will be at pax for all 4 days this should be doable, follow their twitters, attend the right panels and you'll be able to find most of them. I dreaded the thought of panel specific pins where only select few will be able to get them, lucky that isnt the case.
thats 26 pins so far, roughly 15 more 3rd party pins to be announced, i would say you get these by lining up to specific booths.
Breaking it down like this, time will be the biggest factor here, if you plan your days and maybe get a small group to help, getting all of them should be possible.
Also note, the only set confirmed to be exclusive is the pax prime set, i think it is safe to say the staff pins and other sets will be at east and aus next year too,
Anyone willing to invest in future exclusive trades?
any word if the lookouts are going to be PAX Prime exclusives?

I think I remember someone saying that there will be a limit on exclusive pin sets (I want to say one of each set per customer). Although a Core set + Prime set + Lookouts will have you at $90, which is pretty dang close to the Merch pin. Granted, two Core sets seems the way to go so that you have plenty of trade fodder. Although I wonder if Lookouts will be considered exclusive for merch sales or not?
I don't want to sound cocky or like a goose, but it seems like common sense that the Prime set is Prime only and the Lookouts set is PAXs only (or possibly online in the future as well).
They said Twisp/Catsby is online and obviously the staff pins are an at-PAX only pin.
The Lookouts isn't as important as the PAX/Gabe/Tycho pins to be a single PAX exclusive. Makes no sense.

hmmm, I was thinking... is there anyone here that would like to set up a more permanent/consecutive trade partnership with me?
That way they would always have a set of PAX AUS pins as well as PAX AUS vendor pins.
I'd need a partner for both PAX East and PAX Prime or someone who attends both and wants two sets of PAX Aus and Vendor Pins, think of it as the same as having a pinny arcade team except it's an international partnership.
I'm going to make an attempt on being a hardcore collector and if anyone else is looking at attempting too this would be the easiest and best way to do so.
Anyway it would be beneficial to all involved so PM me and we can talk details and agreements etc. ))
