[Iron Man 3] is out now! Man of Steel coming soon.
Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr. at maximum charm! Splendid robobiff! Witty dialog!
Trevor!
I'll give you RDJ, but, uh... Don Cheadle at maximum charm? did we watch the same movie cause in the Iron Man 3 I watched, Don Cheadle had like a few throwaway lines and hardly any presence
Cheadle was decent in Iron Man 3.They didn't give him enough to do. Watch House of Lies for maximum Cheadle charm.
exactly
i don't doubt Cheadle as a fine actor.
i'm talking more about the script and how he was written in

EW finally posted that article with the Fiege quote about Marvel getting the Ghost Rider rights back; he doesn't go into detail about the specifics of how they got it back, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he didn't misspeak.
So reading over this, the two he seems most excited/certain about are Dr. Strange (no news there) and Inhumans (his implication that it would star or feature someone going through the mist, uncertain of what they will become, makes it sound really cool. For some reason, I had assumed it would only star characters that had already been mist-ed, and I wasn't that interested).
Hulk still seems like a "maybe"
There really isn't anything at all said about Black Panther, unfortunately. Not as promising as I'd hoped
And despite a script and director, sounds like Runaways is still on the backburner until further notice
And it doesn't quite sound like another Iron Man is in the works just yet
So maybe Phase 3 will look something like this?
Ant-Man
Thor 3
Dr. Strange
Cap 3
Inhumans
Avengers 3
Wishful thinking, but I have this idea where the Big Three's movies take a break for a phase and they play supporting roles in order to bolster other heroes
So without veering too far out there, I'd do something like:
Ant-Man (Hank, Wasp, and Hawkeye in supporting roles)
Hulk (Leader as the villain, Tony (possibly recast, but hopefully not) supporting)
Dr. Strange (Thor supporting? Iffy on that, but Strange-related artifacts are in Asgard right now)
Black Panther (Cap supporting)
Inhumans (Pietro supporting)
Avengers 3
I'd like to squeeze Captain Marvel or Runaways or Heroes for Hire in there, but I feel like Marvel/Disney are going to want to churn out another Avengers flick as quickly as they can. Though honestly, if they went with something like my second list, you could practically grab some of these less prominent names and do a Defenders or West Coast Avengers film instead. I just don't think they would.
They need to give War Machine his own movie. Cheadle has earned his time in the spotlight and it'd give Downey jr. a break from Stark if he needs it - or reduce him to a cameo or supporting role.
the whole PTSD/anxiety attack thing was lazily written, never really amounted to anything substantial thematically, and only seemed like a reference vehicle to remind audiences of the existence of The Avengers movie
Yeah
Barely anyone saw that thing, or even remembers it

Because it's not incredibly reductive to say it was just to remind audiences of a film pretty much everyone on planet Earth has seen?
Lazily done, perhaps. He gets over his anxiety attacks rather quickly, but it's a summer blockbuster (and a rather long one at that) so they have to keep the pacing up
I'd rather they'd tried and failed then do nothing at all. Would you rather Tony just be completely mentally okay after the events of The Avengers?

I don't think it was that lazy, since the character Tony Stark has this big but not impenetrable ego that people can manipulate. He really responds to threats and challenges, so I thought that overcoming his anxiety was a callback to the first Iron Man.
Iron Man 1 -
Gets captured, decides that his captors will probably kill him whether he capitulates or not, decides to give up.
Tony: "I'll probably be dead in a week."
Yensin: "Then this is a very important week for you, isn't it?"
...and he builds his way out of certain death.
So... after the Avengers, he's got a threat looming over his head, and he can't shake his fear of it, but the characterization of Pepper doesn't make it seem like she supports his (admittedly pretty bonkers) habit of working on new Iron Man tech. He needs somebody outside of himself to egg him on, and remind him that he can be all MacGyver and shit (which he then proceeds to be).
Tony: (Panic Attack)
Kid: "Why don't you just build something?"
If you can believe in the Iron Man 1 character arc, you can believe in the Iron Man 3 character arc, I think.

Tony's anxiety attacks were part of the most overriding theme of the movie which was expressed all over the place
He's not sleeping, he's made over thirty suits because he's working like a crazy person, he makes a very public and stupid threat to the Mandarin to overcompensate for his insecurity (and then freaks out when he hears the doorbell), he uses his suits as a buffer against the rest of the world, including Pepper (romancing her remotely via the suit), flips out at the idea that his suit isn't charging fast enough, has a major scene where he demonstrates/learns that he can be effective without a suit (getting creative with hardware store supplies), and ends the movie by destroying all the suits he had created in his desperation to feel secure (and special attention is given to his destroying the suit that he had spent the movie using as a physical stand-in)

As somebody who's been dealing with PTSD for around a decade, I thought it was pretty good and even made me a bit uncomfortable.
been pondering for like the past hour why i didn't enjoy the film. will get back to you guys on that.
and i ain't no fun-hater. i loved the first and second iron man films. i just was sorely disappointed by this one and i can't quite put my finger on why, yet.

You should read the Iron Man 3 thread in D & D. That'll give you ideas about where the movie failed.
It's entirely possible to not enjoy Iron Man 3 as much as you expected you would enjoy it from the hype and all that, and to end up feeling like you didn't enjoy it at all.

Which mostly means, in this case, nitpicking things the film explained. Some of them explained in detail, even.

Nitpicking to you, logical criticisms to them. It's a thread to give him critiques to think about. Whether he agrees or disagrees is up to him. I think details are what he wants to solidify his thoughts on the movie.
Goddamn that is both a neat nod to Iron Man 3 and a super clever way to excuse Iron Man being both on the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy at the same time.

I agree except
replace "War Machine" with Pepper Potts/whatever her superhero name is.

Please don't venture into a D&D thread about something if it's about something that you actually enjoy
Sorry Harry but while there are plenty of criticisms to be made I left that mthread a few days ago cause someone wouldn't let go of the extra suits issue even thought the movie tells you he can't use them and came back today to find the same person arguing the same damn thing.

Going off the dialogue and role, it's definitely something that is in line with Wilson's usual roles in Stiller movies
But also Wilson was supposed to be in the film until he attempted suicide and had to be replaced while he recuperated

Everybody take a good look.
This is what a fun-hater looks like.
Something triggers it, I feel like I'm gonna die, then I either calm down slowly or something distracts me and it's like it never happened.

That's where he picked the last name from, isn't it?
Yes. He didn't want people to know he was related to a famous director, so he picked the name of his favorite superhero: Cage.
Y'know, not really
Like, I love Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream
