Ah man this page... Plants vs Zombies looks amazing, DR3 Mega Man mode, and people reminiscing about Clay Fighter and Ballz? Awesome.

My mouth tastes of donner meat and chips, last night was mental, pretty sure my housemate hooked up with a tiny fitty, the dirty stop out.

Hilarious moment down the pub, a couple of dudes I know were like "who the hell would seriously buy the new xbox?" I put my hand up and was like "me! Fuck you dude! It's coming Friday!" Much lolling ensued. Goes to show though, they were still in fixed-mindset E3 mode. I pointed out stuff about the OS and games they weren't aware of, and after a minute they said how the xbox sounds pretty cool actually, but will probably buy PS4, why aren't I buying PS4? I said yeah I'm getting one of those too at some point and again much lolling.

MS have a LOT of work to do still!

Team Spooky is running a Killer Instinct Tourny on their channel

One of the best sets from the stream. CD JR was on a massive streak and everyone was calling for FilthieRich, one of the producers, to knock him off.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_aqP9CU5kw

The game looks super deep. The full stream touched on some stuff that I hadn't heard before like frame data being accessible in game and the ability to change the announcer. It looks like it's tailored to the fighting game community and all the players there looked like they were having a pretty good time with it.
I dismissed this when they first announced it, thinking it could be no where close to the original. The more I see of it, the more hype I feel.

My roommate has it set to the original KI announcer, which is the exact same sound files with a little added reverb to cover how crappy the sound compression was fifteen years ago.

The Dead Rising Phone thing looks a lot more than half-baked. I am surprised they haven't been hyping it more.

You use a phone maps app as a mini map, that puts a GPS bead on your character... you can call in military strikes via special apps... people will text you.

In many ways it sounds like the phone from Grand Theft Auto 5, but removed from the game, which just makes it seem much more immersive, AND lets you fuck with the phone in one hand while holding the controller in the other, letting you read texts while running away from zombies.

This feeds my ADHD in the most delicious of ways.

Doner/donair/shwarma/gyro are all closely related, but have minor differences in assembly. There should always be a dubious meat tower though.

Trivia: Tacos al pastor are the same thing, but translated to a local preparation!

the Dead Rising stuff does sound interesting, but as a recent PAR article shows, it could also go very wrong very fast. i really hope that it works better in the full game that it seemed to in a controller demo situation, but i'm a bit weary at the moment.

of course, either way i fully expect developers to learn how best to use the tech over time and find interesting and imaginative ways of implementing it into games.

I suck at fightan games but the above KI footage got me all excited. glad I will finally have a good d-pad to work with; I have gone through 3 transforming d-pad 360 controllers since they don't withstand a lot of abuse (and I hit those buttons hard in fighting games)

Curiously enough, I don't have this issue.

Well, sort of: no one was getting the new PS4 either at my job (to be fair, I work at a library, with much more down-to-earth types, I suppose). It was not "dude, you're getting the next Xbox? Loser!", but "You want to get the new consoles? God, why?". None of them cared about the PS4 either.

It's easy to forget that we're literally a section of a audience that, in turn, is a fraction of the general electronics-buying population. I don't know if that's something Microsoft (or Sony) can necessarily change, or if that's just the nature of the console-launch game.

yeah I play games all the time with friends and they were utterly shocked when I told them the PS4 was out. seems like console launches aren't on everyone's radar these days.

I also was in a 360 party with a guy who had preordered an XB1 but had no idea what Titanfall was. I was flabbergasted.

And yet a million playstation 4 units sold in one day. Xbox one has probably zero chance of hitting that number unless they really ramped up production, but they will have a huge day as well.

The gaming market is so huge now that massively successful launches can happen with a tiny fraction... Like, 1%, of the current market buying in at launch.

Hmm...It was different for me. Maybe its because the group I hang around trends a bit younger as I'm still in college/working part-time.

Almost everyone knew about the new PS4/Xbox, some were getting a PS4, some were getting a X1, some were getting both, and some (like myself) were planning on waiting a bit.

I hate to be "that guy"--but were these actually sold or shipped? I don't doubt the PS4 could hit a million, and good on Sony for it, but to this day, I don't think we get PS3 sold number, just the shipped number. Are these basically interchangeable? Does Nintendo and MS not calculate sold, just shipped?

Yoshida made a specific point of saying "sold through" which leads me to think they actually are saying "sold to people"

Funny that they can give those numbers when they want to though, considering they never do, lol.

But again, the truth is that if they put a million units into the supply chain right now, they will sell all 1 million of them.

Same for Microsoft. As many as they make, they will sell, at least through the holidays.

they're claiming sold not shipped, so a pretty impressive launch. obviously MS's day one sales will be a bit different with them launching in various territories simultaneously. i don't see them matching the 1 million in NA that Sony's managed, but i think they'll have the momentum to close the gap in the run up to Christmas. i don't think either company will be lamenting over their sales figures.

No doubt of it. For PS3s (and Xbox 360s), given how hilariously available they are everywhere (well, hilarious in context of recent history), I suspect the actual sold/shipped numbers are deliberately fudged and highly misleading. But for the new consoles, I suspect they'll fly off consistently for some time.

But there are exceptions, I guess. The WiiU was, at least for me, easy to find the week of launch. And I spotted a PS3 for a friend of mine two weeks after launch when I happened to visit Wal-Mart and i knew he wanted one (one he didn't find it first, I don't know). But PS4 (and Xbox One, I assume) are flying off.

Well, you have to consider population destiny and wealth in areas.

I mean when people say stuff is sold out everywhere...I think it moreso translates to, "really hard to find".

Also, I believe the PS3 had a pretty slow start and I know the WiiU did.

An old rumor that I have not heard a peep of in a while is that Microsoft was having production issues making the xbox one, and that supply would be constrained.

If this was true, you figured we would be hearing a lot more about that as we get closer to launch, right?

Either way, I am glad I have my early preorder.

A very middle-of-the-income-road college town is as good a place as any to gauge this, I suppose. Anecdotally, of course, but this was multiple days in a row. I think the WiiU was the anomaly more than anything because of branding confusion.

Well, I could only imagine that with all the last minute changes they made MS had a pretty tight deadline, so I would believe it if it turned up true.

That said most of the time you only end up waiting a month at worse and I'm sure they'll have more systems out by Christmas.

It'll be hard to say initially. We're getting reports of the "blue light of death now" on the PS4, but I'm thinking it's still an extreme rarity (even if everyone who gets one happens to report it on Amazon.com).

The thing I'm wondering is that both systems require online patches and I'm wondering if that is going to be a problem in the long run.

On one hand, anyone buying these systems day one probably has access to hi-speed internet and by the time the second or third batch comes out those updates should be pre-installed.

On the other hand, I could still see someone without reliable internet getting their hands on one.

I guess it depends on how much functionality is tied up in the patch. I know for the X1 doesn't it need it to be able to operate offline? That seems like an issue to me.

there were also rumours of the new Kinect being unresponsive and the UI being glitchy and nowhere near ready. i'm not putting much stock in any rumours regarding the One right now. only a few more days and we'll all find out.

Newer systems on the shelf will have the newer patch installed.

Also, future games (that weren't pressed before the final update) may very well have system updates on the disc if they are needed for the game to work.

This is stuff they dealt with last gen and handled well enough.

my point was more that everything that's meant to be ready for launch appears to be, even if its not the final build we've been shown. of course there will be patches and updates day one and beyond, but right not it seems MS have everything primed and ready for launch day and i'd imagine that goes for production too.
