Reading a Guardian story about my city, and its often terrible reputation, mostly in the past now, for violent crime.
Nottingham is no longer known as "assassination city".
It never was you utter berk. That is the stupidest nickname I've ever heard and no one used it ever.
BBC report says this about Nottingham.
Of the UK's "urban areas", the index found Glasgow, with a murder rate of double the national average, to be the least peaceful and Cardiff and Swansea, with 60% less violent crime than Glasgow, the most peaceful.
Sheffield, Nottingham and Leeds came second, third and fourth respectively behind Cardiff in the urban areas peacefulness ranking.
the only thing i know about Nottinham in that regard is it does have a reputation for having more gun crime than most other places besides London

i guess if theres 2-3 shootings a year in your town then technically speaking your odds of not getting shot are pretty high
but to my sheltered self it still seems crazy you could get used to drive bys being a semi-regular event
well there are over 300 murders every year in my city. there have already been 40 to date since 2014.
looking at my neighborhood- approximately 5x5 small city blocks- that contains my common eateries, my job to which i walk etc... it looks like there were 2 homicides, 8 rapes, 99 thefts, and 16 aggravated assaults in the past 6 month.
i have no idea what our crime statistics are
my nearest city has a high rate of assault but probably pretty low murder rates
I believe Glasgow's figures are inflated by what actually counts as 'Glasgow' being just the inner city bits, not the suburbs.
Nottingham's gun crime figures were pretty high a few years ago (relative to other UK cities, that is), but have fallen. Our police were also notoriously rubbish here, which didn't help, ranking in the bottom two in the country. It wasn't like living in Robocop Detroit, though.
