How to you get R-rated and "really fucking dark" from Power Rangers meets Dragon Ball Z

Did you even watch the shows you're talking about?

To be honest I don't mind something being a shade or two darker than classic power rangers, as long as it's still got fun in it.

And, while I would scrap a good amount of what was in that short, I enjoyed the part with Zack quite a bit.

Power/Rangers is some of the hackiest shit I've ever seen in my life, so

    probably not

Resuming my viewing of Dino Charge, as far as Power Rangers hypnosis plots go, "everyone in the sun wants to go on a Disney Channel vacation" is pretty great.

I watched the first episode of PR on netflix last night, and it brought to mind a question I always had - how are the zords filmed? Are they miniatures? I don't mean the megazord fights, that's obviously dudes in suits, but the individual zords and combination scenes.

Pretty sure the T-Rex is still a guy in a suit; dunno about the others.

Triceratops is a guy in a suit who's just crawling really fast on his hands and knees.
No seriously, that's a good question. I'd like to know, too.

Do they ever show any zord but the T-Rex in the same frame as a monster? I think they always cut away for the few times they actually have the other individual zords attack

the t-rex is one of the few things in the show that appears both as a puppet and a guy in a suit depending on the shot

I'd love to know what scale we're talking about. From the level of detail I'd guess maybe 2, 2.5 feet tall? I mean, my transformers Devastator is 18" tall, and the detail on the Megazord looks a bit sharper. I can't find any pictures online.

Do Sentai shows start using CG for the large scale fights at some point? I have not watched a new Sentai show in a while

They use it for special attacks, and to make things fly and stuff. But it's still dudes in clunky suits.

    Finished Dino Supercharge
*ahem* HOW DID NOBODY REALISE THAT THEY STILL NEEDED TO WIPE OUT THE DINOSAURS? HOW DID HUMANITY EVOLVE PERFECTLY FINE WITH DINOSAURS?

That aside I warmed up to Supercharge, mostly. Still could have used more character development for the auxiliary rangers, and Kendall spent barely any time as a ranger, though.

But humanity pointing mirrors at the Dark Energem to destroy it was the best kind of dumb.

Dudes in clunky suits will probably always be the cheapest option so I don't expect that to change pretty much ever.

Q: Have you taken a look at Kyuranger or Zyuohger for Power Rangers 2019?

A: We’re still awaiting a final decision, but the cubes from Zyuohger won’t be workable.

    Welp.

I think if you were aiming for a more mature Power Rangers story, Last Airbender and Legend of Korra would make good bench marks. That franchise had a running gag about a man's cabbages alongside a storyline that featured genocide, global war, and child abuse- and the writers made all of it fit together seamlessly.

Plus, it's not like we haven't had darker themes in the series already. Andromeda from Space and the entirety of RPM spring to mind.

It's basically a pitch for an animated Guyver series.

I like the bodies on the rejected concept more than what they went with, but I think the movie has the right idea about updating the helmets to look more hi-tech/alien.

But the weird purple triangle thing is too large, too busy, and doesn't jive with the color-coded nature of the rangers. Still better than the Megaforce suits, though.

Also I really like the rejected designs.

It's a shame they didn't make it into the film.

I guess they wanted something with more boob plate for the ladies.

Yeah, maybe it's just seeing how bad the movie ones are, but those look much more subdued.

I wonder if part of the mandate was to have the sculpted lips on the helmets.

That's the first thing I would get rid off in any redesign.

Everything from the neck up is terrible. The rest of it is a good design for, like, a robot, but doesn't make much sense as power armor. It's like they tried to keep the proportions of form-fitting spandex but with metal plating instead and some part of my brain just goes "wait, no that doesn't work what is this!?"

But yeah if those were just, like, robots from something and had different heads I'd be pretty down to party with them.

I think those costumes are way more aesthetically appealing than the ones we got, I like the helmets.

I mean they don't look like Power Rangers-- they don't even look human. The guys look like robots and the girls look like aliens in suits.

But the actual movie suits look ugly, so

I think the girls also look like robots. Robots can have feminine physiques.

I think the girls also look like robots. Robots can have feminine physiques.

It's more that they look unusually slender and tall.

Could definitely be robots, but it reminds me of a grey or almost like the Episode II Kamino aliens in an Iron Man suit

The guys look more human-shaped to me, which I guess reads as a robot with that aesthetic? I dunno, it's where my mind went

See, I get the unusually slender and tall aesthetic (it's the crazy long-looking necks that really do it, I think), so I know what you mean, but I get it from all of them.

    So between that and
Rita obviously being the former green ranger and likely getting her power from that

I have a sneaking suspicion that
They're just going to kill of Rita at the end of this flick and use Zedd in the sequel.
