I made it to the fourth area today. I still have a bunch of challenges to do in the it areas but I collected everything. Man, am I having a ton of fun! I really wish I could use the soundtrack from an old Tony Hawk game. I mean the music is fine, but it could be better.

The female option has this wide-eyed face that cracks me up. I added red hair, ponytail, and bangs to that and made a great retro-looking character.

If you die allot, your player will start complaining about it and recommend using the wires more.

It took me way to long to figure that out and I felt super dumb when I figured it out. Still though. Nothing will take away my smile that dog gave me

I wonder what type of new weapons they are going to introduce with dlc? I haven't unlocked everything but this game needs a flamethrower bad.

All I can say from tonight's game-play is thank god I didn't have to go to gamefaqs to learn how to air dash :P

Up on Mount Olympus, the folks at Volition are sitting in their thrones, arms crossed with smiles of approval. A simple nod of the head dispatches the raven with an invitation for Insomniac to join them as brothers in arms, Gods on high. But also a slight thought gnawing at the back of the mind "Oh fuck! Somebody else set the bar for crazy open world games! Perhaps they're... too strong"

For real though, this game is incredible. I've laughed so much!

    Early-ish story mission
Looking for the scout guy in the hotdog factory. "Ok, I'm at the crane, but... no keys. Cranes have keys? Ok, what would Batman do? He'd probably read this note out loud <gruff Batman voice> Meet me at the park. I love you.</Batman voice> Im off to the park to find those keys, and maybe go on a date!"
    Ah haha :3

Also, air dash is a game changer. Holy shit!

I picked it up last night. I'm pretty sure i just need more practice but im finding the actual combat sections to be pretty awkward. the guns so far at least are too weak and slow firing to really deal with a large group and moving around isnt quite as intuative as id like it to be.

Also, question. The version i picked up was a day-one copy from Gamestop, so i got the dlc meele hammer weapon. but I cant figure out how to actually equip a new meele weapon. Do different meele weapons even matter when it comes to damage or is it purely a skin change?

  • Skull2185Skull2185 Registered User regular
Play the story a bit more. Once the clothing vendor shows up in the safe areas, you can customize your character, including swapping melee weapons. Not sure if they dor more damage, but the hammer does look rad at least.

Melee weapons can be changed out when you get to the person who sells clothes. It is purely a skin change, which makes me want the microsoft guitar even more.

Also, I feel that the first Buck National challenge is meant to stay Silver until I level some more amps/weapons/etc...

I felt that this challenge was supposed to stay Bronze...until I looked up at the Leaderboard and saw the ridiculous score that @nicopernicus came up with. :P

I have no idea how that happened. I tried a few times and got bronze, and then somehow everything went my way!

I will recommend to anyone just starting out, don't do any challenges/serious exploration until you get the air dash. It comes like 8 or 9 story missions in, but holy shit does it make traversing things way way easier, on top of that a couple missions prior to air dash you unlock badges which means all the running jumping and shooting you do actually matters for pushing bars.

I'm not exactly feeling the bommerang gun, I mean its amazeballs at robots but kind of middling against OD, but I think I'm spoiled by the amazon hotty shotty.

Also this morning I unlocked a fedora, finally I can tip my hat "m'lady!" Hilariously it was on a mission where the main character complained about the music and so it changed.

I believe this might be my favorite open-world game.

Mind, I'm not the biggest fan of sandbox games. I play a lot of them, but finish few. However, over in Sunset Overdrive, I've put a solid 17 hours already and I don't want the story to end and I don't want them to stop giving me challenges, either.

I think my enjoyment is related to the tightness of the game. It's not paced out like a 100 hour plus game world in which you can be anything, climb every rock and pick every flower. The actual gameplay is leagues better than you get in other sandbox games and it looks better, too.

The attention to detail is great, too. Stuff like when the revolver is out of ammo, a flag pops out with "BANG!" on it. I'm also seeing new respawn animations even after all this time. Just in time for Halloween, the last time my character died, she came out of a TV all creepy, Ringu style.

I'm playing this like I expected to be play Bayonetta 2 and I'm surprised at just how good this game is in just about every aspect.

A tip for kill challenges like for Buck National or for weapons:
change your overdrives and amps to match the challenge and give you the most damage. Use stuff that gives you more damage against whatever it is you're fighting and tailor your weapon and amp combos, too. I'm ranked third for the Murderrang challenge with 400k points and I easily placed gold in the last Buck challenge I did on my first try.

I tried over and over again on the buck national first challenge, so much that my wife told me no more she couldn't stand what he said. The issue continued to be the bounce challenge (its just easier to ground slam than shoot enemies off the bounce) and the blowers, specifically the blowers because those fuckers never seemed to be around for me to murderate their dumb shit asses.

The blowers usually stick to the rooftops during that challenge.

  • Man of the WavesMan of the Waves Registered User regular
Use the epic amp that explodes when you bounce and also explosive weapons while you're bouncing.

The blowers spawn from and go to the same places each time. Enough of them should come out of the dumpsters on the high platforms to satisfy the first couple rounds of kills. When you have to kill more of them, they jump down to the dumpsters on the ground and hop back and forth. Just pop them with the flaming compensator and keep moving. It should only take one shot each, if you have the overdrives for OD damage and fire damage active and upgraded, plus single shot damage.

They do, but I was trying to do it without the air dash, now that I have that it'll probably be easier to navigate. That plus the lightning epic power will probably make it my bitch next time.

I swear its so easy in this game to get lost in doing challenges, picking up collectibles and side missions, thats why again I advise people skip all that shit until you get air dash!

I was only vaguely aware of this game until about a week ago. I'd heard of it, and seen a lot of people raving about the live action trailer, but didn't get around to watching it for quite a while. That plus the "you and your crate are safe" trailer convinced me that this was a game I needed.

But then the reviews started to hit and I read a couple and thought... okay, sounds like the traversal wasn't quite executed perfectly, sounds like the "humour" gets a bit tedious.

Well, I'm only up to the propellor-finding mission, but it seems like the complaints I've read are garbage. This game is perfection. The humour, the gameplay, the controls, the gorgeous robust whenever-the-hell-you-want character customisation, the everything... Flawless. My GOTY for sure. And a few days ago I wouldn't have believed that was possible in a Borderlands year. I'm pretty sure SunsOver will end up being one of my favourite games of all time.

If you've been thinking about buying a One but haven't pulled the trigger yet, watch a few trailers and gameplay clips... if they appeal to you, I think this game is a worthy console seller. Rarely do experiences so packed with pure, effortless fun come along.

so i'm at about 5 hours worth of play now, pretty much just story quests and side quests, haven't even started on the challenges yet. got to say i am absolutely loving the game so far, and can't remember the last time i laughed so much playing a game. this game is just awesome.

also, i'm not normally bothered about character customization, but damn it if this game doesn't make me want to play pretty princess dress up more than any other game ever has. i've changed my outfit more times in this game than i have in pretty much every other open world game combined.

    so yeah, loving this game!!

i just saved Bryllcream and laughed for like 5 minutes straight at the reveal. was not expecting that.

i honestly cannot fathom how anyone would complain about this games sense of humour, it's been spot on for me so far. oh well, no accounting for taste i guess.

I thought he was always disabled, but he had his arms and legs when he was thrown into the garbage truck.

The game barely acknowledges it! Did they pop off during the rescue? Did he eat them to survive? What happened?

the end of mission text mentions that he was in there for a long time with no food so i think it's implied that he ate his limbs to survive. plus the game makes a point of asking how long he was trapped for and 4Kim at least seems surprised to see him. what ever the cause it certainly wasn't what i was expecting.

its amazing what a good art style can do with a game. I think this is probably the xbox ones first really next gen experience . I mean titanfall was doable on the 360 but i dont this this game would've ever been possible on last gen system at least not without taking out a good part of the aesthetic and a lot of the enemies. cause holy crap does it get insane.

Also the best humor in this game is in one of the side quests ;) you'll know which one so do them.

They emphasize that he is the master of survival techniques or something several times. I just assumed he ate his arms and legs which I think is amazing. Also, the fact that he managed to stitch himself back up on the final arm is really the most impressive part.

there's also the total lack of loading when entering any of the (admittedly few)interior areas. In fact i don't think i've seen a loading screen in-game at all. Not even any stuttering or pausing when traversing the city.

You find mascot balloon fizzies robot brain and start reprogramming it by running around the city. The whole time he is calling you an asshole and hurling as many insults as his depraved little mind can come up. You're able to reprogram him to have empathy towards others and then he starts crying and talking about how much that he hates existing because he's a psychopathic robot.
