The difference between wow grind and destiny grind is the rewards, imo

In wow when I do a grind I am typically making progress for my entire account, be it a title, achievement, or new mount. I'm obviously not considering raiding or dungeon runs a part of the grind since that's where the game basically is.

In destiny, my progress no longer feels meaningful. Spend a week doing bounties to level up my new raid gear or gun. Then I get a new gun, and have to repeat this entire process. If they halved (or in the case of exotic guns, 3/4thd) the exp requirement to fully level stuff, maybe I'd be bothering to hit level 32.

    Speaking of fantasy indie games

Is Shadowrun Returns/Shadowrun Dragonfall any good?

Because a story driven RPG in a new (to me) setting sounds good, and that setting in particular sounds like the perfect kind of silly

Returns is good, Dragonfall is excellent. The storytelling is quite good, but especially in Dragonfall the gameplay is just stellar. I want all my RPGs to have turn based tactical combat now.

I still haven't played Dragonfall because I am a monster, but I really enjoyed the campaign in Returns.

    Eehhhh I guess

Maybe it goes the other way

Now there's no excuse if an entry in an annual franchise sucks, because some guy managed to single-handidly churn out monthly entries in his game franchise
Yes I know the amount of work that goes into a Five Nights at Freddy's game is not equivalent to the amount of work that goes into any AAA game, just go with it

to give the dude credit he also goes out of his way to include a lot of hidden stuff that builds up a larger story, which is both rewarding for players to find AND feeds the creation of a bunch of memetic theory videos that only further raise awareness of his game

he's crafted one of the perfect games for the youtube LP age

    other than sports

    there are

    two annual franchises

so let's put some quotes around "industry-wide".

Heroine's Quest doesn't really have realistic Vikings I don't think, but the setting is fun and it's always enjoyable to say words like Svartalfheim and Munarvagir.

Plus the bridge troll is named Fremont and that made me grin.

Need for Speed used to be, although that recently stopped (but I agree that the percentage is small).

yeah I guess with the new consoles some of those annual franchises that i am probably not thinking of have slacked off.

    Forza I guess?

Battlefield is trying but can't keep it up.

uh... Kirby? Wouldn't count that as being part of the AAA space though.

i would define AAA as being multi console, or at least on a major tv console, and having high production values. i think that's the most useful when you're talking about the issue of production bloat.

Anniversary and Master Chief collection don't count.

Also no, handheld games are by definition not AAA, even though Nintendo is a AAA developer.

Not necessarily multi console (Halo, Uncharted, Zelda and 3D Mario are all AAA), but yeah.

You can have magic without making a minority group use it in western settings

If the AC3 DLC hadn't been so ridiculous I would have been offended by it.

But it was so over-the-top it was obviously not meant to be taken seriously.

really the assassin's creed is a newcomer it's only been annual since 2009

Tony Hawk was annual from 1999 to 2007 and guitar hero was annual from 2005 to 2010 and call of duty has been annual from 2005 to the forseeable future

2003 for CoD, actually. 2004 had the expansion for CoD1.

It's the only series that is both currently annual AND has been annual for its entire existence.

Wanted to mention it, but also not AAA.

Also is the series dead now? No Lego games are announced for 2015.
