It doesn't help the world at large, but at least on this forum is worth keeping in mind that we're all really real life people and while I don't think any of us can Daddy Warbucks anyone this is a super supportive group of folks and there's a sympathetic ear and sometimes other help to be had most hours. There is never not someone on your side.

I sure fucked up at playing Fly Standby. Waited all day in LAX trying to get on a plane (after being on a 14 hour flight out of tai pei). Got in early aftenoon at LAX. Flailed at several attempta but 11:30 looked actually decent. When I had contemplated buying tickets from spirit earlier and hesitated, they'd sold out. Now I only had a shot for a flight out on Thursday if the 11:30 flight fell through. .. Which began to look increasingly likely, ranked 20th on the standby list and now there only 5 open seats
With spirit only showing 4 remaining tickets, I booked. Carrot removed, I left the terminal before the bitter end. While waiting for the hotel shuttle, my wife's mom, who is a a flight attendant and the reason why I can fly non-rev standby, called to say that she made it on then plane...and we would have to if we had waited around. Oh well, fuck it. Guess im spending new years eve in LA. Wish I could have picked up Gus and the mutt from the kwnnwl

Yeah. The general gist of the article is "If only there were some way to make absolutely sure video evidence is real, then we could use it in court and trust it!" The thing is that there are various solutions that approach this. You have the proprietary container/codec option. You have the encrypt the video and embed it within a binary containing the player. Or the run a hash and encrypt that option. All of which have issues, and don't really matter because the video forensics guys don't give a shit what watermarking the VMS people do because they are generally going to just look at the video codec and do some frame comparison stuff that basically gets summed up as looking at the time stamps between frames.
And the court requirement video evidence is submit it, and if the other side thinks it's tampered with, they have to prove it.
I've been reading the Marvel Comics Untold Story book tonight and just got to the part where the mens' magazine editors tried to get Denny O'Neil to dose Stan Lee with acid. Jesus. Also, Mario Puzo sounds like a dick.

The Marvel Comics one? Yeah, it's amazing. My favourite detail is either the character Kirby creates that is an obvious parody of Stan Lee, the one who comes in and steals all the credit for other people's work, or the bit where Todd McFarlane fires Rob Liefeld on a conference call because "no one here likes you any more".

When I was a juror they wouldn't even give us a transcript of the testimony. We had to rely on whatever notes we scribbled down
