In completely unrelated news, REmake is the fastest selling digital title Capcom have ever released and has the best day one sales of any game on PSN (and yeah, that includes games like Minecraft, FFVII, Journey, etc.).
This makes me happy, because Resident Evil 2 is the best game in the series (if anyone disagrees I will fight them) and I have hopes for a RE2make.
Resident Evil had a lovely horror thing going on, but for me RE2, between the audio and the notes and the environments, really nailed the feeling of "dread" much moreso than any other game in the series. You finally got to see just how depraved the Umbrella Corporation was. Resident Evil 3 had much of that taken away by the fact that by the middle of the game you were probably carrying multiple powerful weapons and had crafted ammo coming out of your ears.
Code Veronica (often referred to as a side story, but in reality it is the "true" Resident Evil 3, the RE3 we got was a sidestory that had to be called RE3 due to licensing agreements for "mainline" Resident Evil games on Sony platforms) had some of that as well, but once 4 transitioned the series from survival horror to action it stopped being "scary" and became "tense", and those are two completely different emotions when it comes to 'horror' games.
Even if we don't get a redone Resident Evil 2, hopefully REmake's sales numbers will show Capcom that there is a market out there for a traditional Resident Evil game, because it would be nice to see another one of those made in an age where 95% of horror games are first person dark environment jumpscare simulators. They now have a third person engine that runs on modern consoles/PCs, so hopefully they'll utilize it.
I agree on RE2 but let's be honest, Kamiya's at Platinum Games and has stated that he never wants to work on a survival horror game again. Mikami's at Tango Gameworks and they're owned by Bethesda. So who develops it? The Resident Evil 6 team? Because it'll take a lot to convince me that they even know how to make a good game, let alone understand what made old school RE's special. Even back when old school RE's were a thing, that still didn't stop two different teams from fucking up the formula and producing mediocre to bad games (CV was mediocre, Zero was bad).
As for that other bit, Code Veronica was never intended to be RE3, that was a silly rumour Sega fanboys made up back then and it somehow caught traction. GAF just had a thread about it a couple of weeks ago and News Bot (who runs the Project Umbrella site and still interviews RE staff and tracks down other information on the series) filled everyone in. The naming went like this:
RE3 -> RE4 -> DMC
RE1.9 -> RE3
Code Veronica was always meant to be a spinoff, because the entire reason why it exists is because it was Capcom's make good to Sega fans, after they cancelled the Saturn port of RE2 for technical reasons (it wasn't possible on the hardware). Capcom didn't even develop Code Veronica, it was outsourced almost entirely to Nextech and TOSE, with only two Capcom employees working on it.
The original RE3 was apparently too ambitious for their own good, so they moved it to the PS2, brought Kamiya onto the project and renamed it to RE4 (before it eventually evolved into DMC). To fill the gap, they renamed RE1.9, which was intended to be a side story set between RE1 and RE2, to RE3 and expanded upon the original concept.
The crazy thing is that there were five separate dev teams working on the RE series at the time. The three teams mentioned above, the RE Zero team and the RE Survivor team (which was another outsourced game, this time entirely to TOSE).
I'm still of the opinion that no Resident Evil game was ever "horror" or "scary", unless your hallmark of a "horror movie" is really bad dialogue, which the original Resident Evils had in spades. I find it interesting that REmake has online leaderboards for speed runs.
Suuure. You know, we won't think any less of you if you admit that you shat yourself when you encountered your first crimson head.

There are things that scare me, to be sure. Lots of things, actually. But video games, and by extension, Resident Evil, aren't on that list.

I gotta say, on hard, with 20 or so minutes of gameplay between me and my last save, that mansion can be TERRIFYING.

Funny story I had with these, my first RE1 experience was on GameCube; I had previously picked the series up at RE2. I was playing the game in front of a few friends and family, and when I first came across a crimson head, I jumped out of my seat a screamed "whoa God!"

So, pretty much as advertised. Evolve and Super Stardust Ultra for PS4, Chivalry for PS3 and Aeternoblade for Vita. Some pre-orders, some sales, it's certainly a week.
SCEE seem to start updating the store pretty early these days, a lot of games are already up on it including Super Stardust Ultra, Akiba's Trip (PS4), Atelier Ayesha Plus (Vita), Chivalry (PS3) and Don Bradman Cricket (PS4). The latter, I guess, was timed specifically to come out right before the Cricket World Cup starts this weekend.

Hell yeah we have, but we have a long way to go too (and that's exciting!).
The scariest game I've played recently was a tech demo (P.T.). That shit needs to be a full game yesterday.

There are a few games coming to the Playstation platforms in 2015... too bad they're not planning on releasing more. Oh wait, this list is huge (and lacking anything that may be announced at GDC/PAX/E3/etc).
Interesting, they include images of Uncharted 4 on the page, but it's not on the upcoming list. We'll probably hear about a release date around E3 then.
Sony's starting up a buy items on PSN to raise money for Make a Wish, The V Foundation and the USO. When you buy using the Playstation Heroes App, you'll be entered for a chance to play PS4 games against a hero every month, which will be broadcast on the PS Heroes app. Looks like it's only for PS4, though. The first items they have listed are Destiny themes at various price points with different numbers of entries per item.

Knack for $10 is surely worth a shot? I never played it.
Its like Dark souls difficulty in cartoon cute form! Kidding, it's difficult for kids to play but they love the visuals, my nephew adored Knack. Can't recommend enough for folks with children!
How is Guilty Gear Xrd? I'm looking for a fighting game to play though I'm mostly awful at them. Just want something fun to goof off with.
Guilty Gear Xrd seems to be really good, so far. The characters aren't all finished yet, though, so there's bound to be a better package-deal later on. But by your criteria, it sounds like Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold might work.
It adds some frankly amazing elements to the series that I seriously hope has enough of a community to latch onto and make some great things with because I sure as hell cannot, but in the early days, I didn't see too much of that. DLC is all wonked with it and I don't think it's been fully ironed out yet. The story mode was great, except it feels like there was an entire final chapter excised and forced into a couple levels at the end.
It's a good game. The community has the power to make it a great one, but I just don't know if it has yet (or will).
That's a lot of SNK stuff on sale, I half wonder if they're losing the rights or something.
Some of the SNK games are priced okay as Minis with the discount, but that NeoGeo Station bundle is still a staggeringly bad deal at half-price, which shows what a truly sick joke it was to list it at $80 in the first place. That's roughly what I spent for the superior SNK Collection for PSP AND the PSTV to run it on.

Is that an actual title name? I hate how fighting games have so many versions. Why does it take 4 versions to get it right?
The reason I was considering Guilty Gear Xrd is because it is on sale for $24 and I've heard good things.

I suddenly remembered why I really don't enjoy fighting games. Does Tekken do all that non-sense with ultimate editions and such? I don't remember Tekken doing that and if they don't I think I'll just wait for Tekken 7.

I don't like fighting games having DLC for characters and I don't like fighting games that keep releasing a new edition of the same thing with three new characters or tweaks to characters.

The reason the name sounds a bit ridiculous is because it's not the 4th iteration of a fighting game. It's a fighting game based on Persona 4 (the 4th game in a spectacularly good JRPG series). They are also being a bit obtuse, because they are using the original Japanese names. In the US and other territories it's simply Persona 4 Arena for the first game (with the dubious distinction of being one of the only region-locked games on PS3) and the sequel is Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. While the characters themselves are an iteration (a new "Shadow" version of each character and a few more new characters added to the mix), the story in Ultimax is new.
The story mode in both Persona 4 fighting games are pretty good, and definitely superior for a fighting game, given its RPG roots.

Apparently, you don't remember the various Tekken spinoffs like SF vs. Tekken, the F2P Tekken game, and Tekken Tag Tournament. And Tekken is notorious for adding a couple new characters and levels with each iteration and calling it a day.

So, pretty much as advertised. Evolve and Super Stardust Ultra for PS4, Chivalry for PS3 and Aeternoblade for Vita. Some pre-orders, some sales, it's certainly a week.
Hell yeah we have, but we have a long way to go too (and that's exciting!).
The scariest game I've played recently was a tech demo (P.T.). That shit needs to be a full game yesterday.
This is so so true. I can't wait hard enough. (And you're right, P.T. is the scariest thing I've ever played. I said, look behind you!)
Evolve & Super Stardust Ultra are the stand outs this week, it seems.

The first items they have listed are Destiny themes at various price points with different numbers of entries per item.

damn, 100% claim already. I wish I knew this sooner. Was going to the US next week, could have just pick it up and brought back home...
put myself on a wait list. How does that work? Will I get notified on new stock at that price?

Maaaan, I know they'll just release another GG this year with an expanded roster (Dizzy!), but I don't think I can ignore that price.
Ditto the Jackbox which is also on sale for $10. How does the online feature work for that again?

I liked it alright when I played it at launch. It's not great but yeah, I'd say it's worth $10.
There are.

But that was just from a cursory look. I might've overlooked something else.

Its like Dark souls difficulty in cartoon cute form! Kidding, it's difficult for kids to play but they love the visuals, my nephew adored Knack. Can't recommend enough for folks with children!

I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
The second game does have a DLC to play the first game's story mode in it though, so you don't need the first game.

You don't like fighting games having sequels?

I don't like fighting games having DLC for characters and I don't like fighting games that keep releasing a new edition of the same thing with three new characters or tweaks to characters.
