Looks like a little messiness early Thursday morning. Should only be around an inch or so, and should be over by about 6 AM.

Actually looks like a bit of a warmup for the weekend. Highs in the upper 30's and low 40's. Not going to feel "warm" to some of the folks traveling in, but...to those of us that are "natives" to the NE....that's almost akin to a heatwave, at this point!

Low 40s are great. I'll be wearing shorts. I'm not kidding.

Seriously, it's that awesome to see the 40s. This Saturday was 27, so I rolled the windows down while driving to enjoy the nice weather. 40s will be like a freaking heat wave.

While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.

Porter cancelled some flights yesterday with the snow, but it looks like a 50% chance of snow on Thursday i hope the do not cancel over that snow also.

It was 33 the other day. I was headed to the gym, so I was wearing shorts. It actually felt warm out!

Hey guys, it's going to be a blast hanging out with you all. I hope you all get around Boston safe and sound.

Beastybunny, for seafood, let me recommend Row34 - it's short walk from the BCEC!

    Have fun everyone!!

Unless you are flying out VERY early..you probably won't see anything. If super early, maybe a delay. But an inch of snow in Boston (or anywhere in the NE) doesn't usually shut down airports. Heck, it doesn't even delay schools, usually. I wouldn't sweat it.

*raises hand* Stupid question but, there arnt any issues regarding the parking lot at the actual convention center is there? Yes i know the best bet would be to drive in wicked early and i have no problem with that. Im assuming its underground so the snow wouldnt affect it but i just wanted to be sure. Im going friday and saturday.

It's above ground, but I assume they have it all cleared. They have events almost every week at the BCEC.

The main parking lot is not underground or covered. I expect that there will be less spots due to the snow. There are additional overflow lots when the main one fills up.

My wife and I drove up from SC on Saturday and Sunday. Driving around Milton yesterday where we're staying with family was easy enough. Even after it snowed a few inches Sunday night it wasn't bad driving around Boston today. We were able to get to the Science Museum and back without any trouble within the city, and only a few roads around where we're staying that are only plowed enough for traffic to be one-way at a time. If the snow that I'm hearing is expected on Thursday is anything like what happened Sunday night I wouldn't expect it to be a huge problem for BCEC parking on Friday.

The Main lot (which is above ground) will not be a problem, in the sense it's cleared and open. BUT, the surrounding "overflow" lots might. And that would have an effect on the BCEC lot..it might fill earlier because some of the surrounding, less expensive options filling quicker, etc. It's a trickle down (up?) effect.

On the best of pax days, the bcec lot fills up relatively quickly.

Honestly, I expect "parking" to be this years toughest que line. But we'll see....

Well if they would just install pneumatic tubes, we wouldn't be in this problem. Have we learned nothing from Futurama?!

How has the commuter rail been from Providence? Planning to take it Thursday evening into Boston and I'm already getting anxious over it.

Looks like it's getting back to a normal-ish schedule. Nothing alarming that I can see on the MBTA's website. http://www.mbta.com/rider_tools/transit_updates/?ttype=cr&route=Providence/Stoughton+Line#details

So naturally they're calling for 3-8 inches of snow between my town in NJ and Philly (where I'm taking my flight out of)...going to be on pins and needles until Thursday morning hoping that I can get to the airport without any issues and that my flight doesn't get cancelled :(

Same, seeing porter cancel flights tonight to Boston already. Hopefully the smaller amount of snow Tuesday afternoon will let me get out.

Suddenly glad i'm driving instead of flying porter again this year.

Not to knock them in general, I loved flying them, but I believe they are more susceptible to the weather conditions than larger jets (though I'm not sure air canada would be running much larger for a short hop like this).

For those driving, I just saw some advisories about lane restrictions and some ramp closures on Route 93 and 90 (pike) for this week (http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/highway/TrafficTravelResources/GreaterBostonWeeklyTrafficAdvisories.aspx).

The work is happening typically between the hours of 10 PM and 5 AM. The work occurring in and around the interchange of the two highways is reportedly going to be complete Friday AM.

The take away - if you're out driving and can't go the way you want, take a deep breath, you will eventually get to where you want to go.

You *can* get theah from heah.

Can Pax East never ever be in March again? This snow is going to be hell to deal with for thousands of people, including myself. It should have just been in April like usual, where it's warmer and nicer in every way.

From what I understand, the dates for East tend to bounce around March/April every year. I'm guessing it's due to the availability of the Convention Center.
Next year's show is scheduled for late April.
So, I guess every now and then, we all have to grit our teeth and deal with the cold. For those of us from warmer climates, it's only for a couple days.

Hoping the drive from NYC to Boston isn't too bad on Thursday morning. I was more concerned about commuter traffic, but I guess I'll have to pay at least a little attention to the weather -_-

It's looking rough for those of us from the midatlantic hoping to drive up to PAX on Thursday. This is the current driving map:

They like to have it in April, but every few years, there's a conflict in the BCEC and pax has to move to March. Something else (no I don't what it is) takes precedence to pax, but luckily it is only every few years. It's similar to how every few years prime is the weekend before Labor Day because something else happens at the WSCC.

Does Amtrak have delays/cancellations often? I'm getting worried about the snow coming Thursday night.

I'll be heading up from Philadelphia, so I'm hoping there's no issues.

Oh man, been trying to look but no room inventories yet where I did...... Throw me a bone with which hotel? Lol

I think just got the snow that's moving to Boston. Wasn't bad, quick 1" or so, little ice glazing at the end. Driving over tomorrow mid morning, I think it won't be that bad to get in.

Any update on status of sidewalks? We usually walk with a stroller with our two year old. Hope it's passable.

It's a convoluted calculation of "What dates don't interfere with the Marathon, Boston ComicCon, Anime Boston, or any other planned event that would take up all the hotel space; the BCEC isn't already booked; provides some reasonable seperation between PAX's"

This year it just happened to be early March.

...and can be planned 10 years in advance if I understand the deal correctly, the dates were locked in place when the deal was made with BCEC.

One thing to also keep in mind: This is the northeast, there isn't always a promise that April is going to be any better than March for weather and there is only so much wiggle room for time between pax's, so its not like they can move it to the summer.

We had a decent amount of rain the last two days so we are more worried about it freezing over. Also expecting 1-3 inches tomorrow but nothing for actual PAX weekend in terms of snow. See you all there!!

  • RidleyDragonRidleyDragon Registered User regular
As long as you're on highways, 2-4 inches won't be a huge issue.
