As you can see, the charts clearly show Steam has videogames. Also sales? Also it eats all your time.

I thought the trailer was showing off potential coop? I have no idea.

Co-op would be pretty cool in a game like that, although I doubt I'd ever have anyone to play it with.

I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to run Arkham Knight, so coop partners are not a concern yet ^^

re the batman trailer at the end of the last thread I kinda hope the companion ai is like a PoP08 style elika thing where you call them in as part of your combos but you don't have to worry about them getting killed or fucking up your stealth or whatever

though I guess the problem with that is they can't just stand behind you like elika did

hmm my attempt to be clever and get the jump on KSP 1.0 has been defeated by the fact that using the old saved games are "not recommended" and also the entire tech tree has been revamped so some of my craft don't even work without a bucket of science.

Because at some point he's still wearing a black suit, red tie, and black leather gloves, standing at a podium with a logo designed to evoke nazi imagery dominating the space behind him

The fact that he's doing it ironically doesn't change that fact

It is weird that he kept that theme going after he left the escapist. He doesn't need a gimmick, he's interesting enough to listen to on his own. Just talk about video games, Jim.

A few subreddits I follow dedicated to PC Gaming have gone into a shit storm over the whole modding thing. Calling for a boycott of steam, etc.

I rarely purchase games on there, but like fuck if I'm not gonna buy the Witcher 3 for that sweet soundtrack and what not.

Paying for mods seems wrong to me but I guess any PC user who has been playing PC games for a long time would be so used to mods just being parts of the game. Games like UT99 or Jedi Knight would not of been the same without the support of mods/maps/skins made by other users.

I guess it is a little selfish though. I mean they are putting a lot of work into what they create, if I were in there shoes I wouldn't mind being able to charge for it.

Guess I'm just old and stuck in my ways

EDIT: Gabe pic in the OP is the best

A pay what you want model in the humble bundle style would be a much better way of doing it. There are plenty of people (myself included) that'd be willing to pay a small bit of change for a mod if it is actually really substantial, but the legal issues involved is just...staggering.

Also I've now realized that GOG has the exact same deal on the witcher 3 available. Hm.

i think what people have the most issue with is the idea that a large majority of the money goes to Bethesda, and not the modder

so where Valve tries to do something noble and allow modders the CHOICE to charge for their work, they sully it by giving the majority to Bethesda, forcing modders to charge higher prices to make their honest dollar

in this model, what they've really created is a way for Bethesda to generate DLC on the cheap, as opposed to creating ways for modders to make a living

    that's the kindling

then the part where making mods go paid sort of borks the previously installed free editions is the spark that ignites the whole thing into a shitstorm

the flipside of this situation is, I think there are far too few moddable games out there, and maybe Valve giving publishers a way to recoup on modding investment will mean that we'll get more mod support for more titles

Donations to the modder are better than the steam system, if only because it all goes to the modder.

Honestly I think it's ridiculous for Bethesda to want almost half of the money being paid for these mods. Skyrim has been out what, 4, 5 years now? I played 50 hours of it and never played it again, and while I got my enjoyment out of it, the mods have added a lot to the game. To want profit off of that work, at least at such a high sum, is just...exploitative really.

You just have AI companions with you, it's not co-op. Rocksteady called it "Dual Play," you can switch between the other character with you "seamlessly" during combat. Looks like that'll be available during stealth too, from what Robin was doing in a few of those shots.

I may....return that witcher 3 pre-order and get it there now...

For Skyrim, Valve gets 30, modder gets 25, Bethesda gets 45.

The percentage of where the money goes is completely backwards. Bethesda wanting to get some of the money off of a paid mod is fine, they made the game that is being modded after all. Valve getting some is fine, they are hosting and running the Workshop. There's no way that should add up to 75% of the price though, with the person who did the majority of the work on the specific mod being sold getting barely any of it.

Modder gets 25%, which is set by bethesda; we don't know how the rest is split between them and Valve so a lot of people assume valve gets at least 25% out of the sale.

I hated the gymkhana stuff from Dirt 3 and loved the shit out of the rallying.

Seriously need to get myself a driving wheel. Don't care about pedals, but I need something to give me the physical feedback necessary for driving.

so valve keeps saying "the game's publisher sets the mod maker's percentage" but does that just mean that valve takes 30% no matter what and then the publisher gets to divide up the remaining 70%? Nice way to twist that phrasing if so.
