I know this is barely related to Giant Bomb at this point, but I originally posted about it in here and felt the need to follow up. Stephen Toulouse is doing better and has awakened from his coma. Nice to have some good news after a crummy week of deaths.
The Witcher 3 has the lamest edge of the map thing I've ever seen
I'd much rather that than all open world games being giant islands surrounded by endless ocean.
I hate this
A message and teleportation suck but I like it way better than every landmass being an island. (I know this is technically true anyway but it should not practically be true 100% of the time)
I have some other issues with Witcher 3 but those extend more to its gameplay
Like for example, I have this contract right now, Devil in the Well
Shit is really hard
And the bestiary is like "hey all these oils will help" but going and tracking down ingredientd is seriously the last thing I want to do in this game or any other
I would buy the ingredients but you are perpetually poor in this game, and merchants are not numerous enough, and also there's the lack of real fast travel
The lack of real fast travel in this game is insane to me

That's the very first sidequest in the game. I also didn't have the materials for the oil. The game is pretty tough at first, and you're right, you're super poor for the first few hours.
Put up a shield with Quen before you start the fight. Use Yrden to put a trap down. It'll make the wraith corporeal even after you hit it. Use the dodge button instead of diving. There are very few invincibility frames on dodge, but it doesn't eat into your stamina, which is also used to cast signs, like Yrden.
Stick with it. It gets easier as you progress. After a while enemies will die just by looking at them.

I almost never ever say this, but I'm going to here, because I like you and I know what you like and what you don't
this game might not be for you
the whole thesis behind the witcher is to make you prepare for your fights, by living off the land, collecting ingredients, reading the bestiary and incidental information, and going into fights with things armed with knowledge as much as weapons
you're a very gestational part of that game, and so I won't tell you to write the game off immediately?
but if you get to the first proper area of the game and aren't enjoying it, i'd consider maybe just pulling the cord on your parachute
But that's also because I went into it with no prep and was able to take it down through sheer brute force
And I definitely dig the fiction of this world, I read that long-ass Kotaku breakdown on the first two games and found it super interesting, and since I typically think fantasy is the worst, that's rare
I don't know if I want to give up on it just yet but if it continues down that whole path of "prepare for your fights" to such a degree that "just kill it with your swords" doesn't work anymore, yeah, I'll hang it up

Did they realistically expect you to sit there and meditate an hour at a time, hoping to trigger something?
Because why not

it's not specifically noon, it's during the daytime
