It actually had two scenes from the Matrix. First one was the one where they dive at eachother and lock arms and keep shooting and missing as they spin torwards the second was the one where Samus runs in a circle kicking everyone with Chiefs help. I think Neo did that, maybe with a staff, I dunno anymore.
The twirl move is a classic of kung fu movies, it's definitely not just from the Matrix. I'm pretty sure the "guns to each others' heads" move is too, though obviously not with the bullet-time special effects. You guys do know that the Matrix wasn't entirely original either, right? :P
Also, unless I missed it, the creator never said "Master Chief" was in it. In fact, I think that only shows up at the end when Chief is crossed out with "Chick" written over it.

Yeah, I don't get what all the shitting on it is about. As far as choreography goes, aside from the derivative elements that we've seen a million times, there were a number of amazing original bits, and for the rest it was so well animated that I didn't really care. Anyway, it's not fucking Shawshank Redemption, it's just for fun. Who gives a shit? (Okay, lesbian thing sucked, but I just tuned it out and started writing this post. No one's making you watch it.)
Apart from that, as others have mentioned, as a technical achievement it's astounding. I've made a minor hobby out of 3D animation for a long time, and can't even fathom how he accomplished so much plausible character animation, and with such good timing as well. Didn't the credits mention Poser or something? It just doesn't compute.
That said, there are some conspicuous aspects of it. Typically when rendering something like that you're already talking a matter of many hours, so you may as well turn on all the bells and whistles (e.g. shadows) you know? The graphical detail was pretty weak in that respect. Then again, realistically modeling and texturing things can be ridiculously time-consuming (and remains mostly a complete mystery to me), and I would probably call that level of detail good if I were making something like that for fun.
Holy hell, everyone needs to watch these. I especially love how the first one borrows a move from Naruto, and makes it about 100x cooler than in said anime. But honestly, jaw-dropping technical achievements across the board.

Without reiterating too many points, I think that Monty has the right idea when it comes to fight choreography, he has a great sense of timing and keeps the flow going. His narrative needs some work, but I would love to see what kind of awesome he can produce with more resources in terms of better modeling (using something other than Poser, for instance) and rendering.
All in all, this is the sort of stuff I want to see out of the Machinima community, someone who really knows the background material and can really put it to use.
I love how the comments (at least on the first page, I couldn't make it past that) don't ever even talk about the video, it just immediately devolves into the same old dribble. O_o
I object to this movie because the Halo and Metroid universes and characters are totally serious and should not be tarnished by such tawdry fanfic.

That and people all "wtf she knocked aside a rocket!" But, they haven't read the books, where that happens. Or other things...and we still don't know the fate of the other Spartans. I mean, I'm fucking dying to find out....and I don't even really care for the games, I just like the books

I've said it on other forums, but I thought that vid was bad. He ripped off too many sources, and the camerawork was way below amateur. that's just not how you film action sequences, good choreography or no.
