I've been interested in playing a Star Ocean game but have never gotten around to it. I have a hard time committing 50+ hours to any game that isn't an MMO, and usually when I'm playing a MMO I'm not playing anything else. I'm not playing any MMO's at the moment so I was considering maybe trying SO5 when it comes out, but after reading Kotaku's import preview, http://kotaku.com/star-ocean-integrity-and-faithlessness-the-kotaku-imp-1774392290, I'm not so sure. I'll still wait for reviews from more western outlets before I make any decisions, but it sounds like it's not so much that the game is a departure from the previews SO games so much as it's just not a very good game overall.
No offense, but that Kotaku preview read like someone whining that the game wouldn't hold his hand the whole way through it. A huge chunk of that was him complaining about how the game made him actually play the game rather than the game just having an AI programmed that would do everything for him.
Its actually kind of funny, because I remember when FFXII came out with its gambit system that let you fully customize the AI to run the characters you weren't playing, and everyone was complaining about how you didn't play the game, you just programmed the game to play itself. Now I read this guy who was complaining about how he had to play the game rather than just program the game to play itself. My, how things change.

I grabbed King's Quest chapter 2. Eventually I'll play through the whole thing from discounts. I enjoyed ch 1 well enough.

A healer without an AI that defaults to staying away tends to run up to monsters as soon as you let go to do something else, in other games.

You afford them by only buying the ones you'll play immediately on day one, buying the ones you'll eventually play later on (preferably when on sale) and outright avoiding the ones that'll just sit in your backlog forever.

Another boss battle shortly after had no save point between it and the next boss battle, but it did have several minutes of unskippable talking scenes.
We're in an age where I can find Uncharted 4 no problem, but R&C and VC Remastered are both sold out when I try to find them.
I won't lie... I kinda dig this backwards universe.
That's how it's always been. The big blockbusters are ordered in large quantities by all the retailers, and the niche games are barely ordered in quantities large enough to fill preorders (if they're ordered at all).

I think most of those old beat-em-ups were just shallow and repetitive. The TMNT ones got by because Turtle Mania was huge. Now they get by on nostalgia.
They were never the best because of their deep and rewarding gameplay. They were the best because you and a friend (or three friends) could pump quarters into X-Mean, Turtles, or Simpsons and have a great time beating an arcade game.
And then I got a Genesis and had that experience sans quarters via the Streets of Rage games, and it was fantastic.
Especially when games like Dragon's Crown came out and improved upon the formula greatly while also not being quarter-sinks (you're not supposed to die).
Even Scott Pilgrim vs The World was a huge improvement over the old beat-em-ups.

Yeah, I guess I did hear a while back that they were casting Matt Trakker for the next G.I. Joe movie. But that's a long way from here's a well-made (level of Transformers Devastation) vehicle combat racing game. Still, pretty cool for someone who was into MASK more than other stuff.
Anyway, I'll be interested to see how this TMNT game turns out as it relates to a 4-year-old, as my nephew loved the hell out of Transformers Devastation.

I never got to play the sequels...hope they put them out as well.
The gameplay in TMNT looks rather different from Bayonetta, so maybe watch some gameplay/read some impressions first before dropping $50.
