I decided to marathon through S3 of Arrow, and woof. I knew about a lot of the issues ahead of time but even then

    Whole season spoilers
I know she's back next season/in Legends of Tomorrow, but killing off Sara was a tremendous fuck-up on multiple levels. As was keeping her death from Quentin. God, when Nyssa chewed out Laurel for keeping another secret (Oliver accepting Ra's deal) I immediately thought 'Thank you'. Then there was Ray being a creepy stalker, Laurel being a crap Canary, Quentin going off the rails and Felicity crying in almost. every. episode. There's more but those were some of the big issues I had. That DJ plot was dumb, but I kinda think that dude has a future in VA work.

There were some bright spots, Roy as Arsenal is awesome, shame he had to leave. Although I'm up for Thea joining the team (something I wouldn't have been found dead saying at the start of season 1).

I can only imagine the life of a CW writer.

Oh hey, I didn't notice there was a description for the Iron Fist show in that Buck announcement
Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Sounds like it'll be based on his early, pre-Power Man stories.

So the costume designer for BvS accidentally let slip a character appearing in the film that hadn't been confirmed
    Flash appears, in costume

So we have Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash appearing in the movie

So yeah almost certainly gonna end with a Justice League shot

    I'm going to guess that
the other Justice League characters are actually going to show up in a vision of the future. It'll be related to the Knightmare desert scene with the Superman soldiers/cultists and flying things/parademons. I'm guessing that will be a future where the super powered people have been turned evil by Darkseid and they've raised armies and the world has been divided up between Superman, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, etc., kind of like a combination of the Justice Lords and the Crime Syndicate. That'll also play into the gods vs. humanity theme. There's a bad future where the superheroes fashion themselves to be gods and force people to worship them.

Wonder Woman is the one who got that prophecy/vision from the oracles and that's why she left Themyscira. She's going to gather up all the super powered people so she could create the Justice League, prevent that dark future, and combat Darkseid. Then they could have her show up in other movies to recruit the other heroes.

    as for the rest

the season was really good and really bad at the same time

It had some really great bits, particularly
Ra's who owns every scene he's in.

Fun fact: Liam Neeson almost reprised that role, but was busy with other work and couldn't make it happen.

Ray Palmer's bits are neat, but it made some sense when I heard he was supposed to be Ted Kord but DC said no so they wrote Palmer into it instead.

My main beefs with season three are as follows

    - The handling of Felicity, who basically has zero agency and is tossed between boyfriends with little to no say in any of it.

    - The decline in the quality of fight scenes. Like, season 3 just stopped trying to make things seem tense. Everything got kinda formulaic and predictable. I just stopped feeling like the gang was ever in any real danger. S4 hasn't really fixed this.

    - The show's desperation to make everyone care about the plot with one silly drama bomb after another. WHO KILLED SARA? Wait, was it Merlyn? No! Was it Roy? NO! it was Thea! Who was being mind controlled by Merlyn! Who is now blackmailing Ollie to fight Ra's al Ghul by threatening to throw his own daughter under the bus! DUN DUNNNN

Oh shit now Ollie's going to be the new Ra's! But he doesn't want to be! Oh no, now Ra's is terrorizing the city! Oh no, now Thea is going to die! Oh no, now Ollie is turning dark side! Oh wait he's faking it. OH NO MERYLN BACKSTABS HIM.

    Just

    fucking stop it. Please.

And my last beef is just... Laurel. Just fuck Laurel. She's never not been the worst character in the show. Her sister was so much better, and then she got fridged to make Laurel more interesting. Bleugh.

Because Tony vs Captain hasn't been done before.

To be fair Tony vs. Sam Wilson hasn't really been done before

I'm still wary but we should probably wait until they unveil the actual plot of the thing instead of just a single teaser image before shitting on it?

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Cybertronian Paranormal Eliminator Registered User regular
Skrulls had their homeworld et by Galactus, a most of their empire wiped out by the Annihilation Wave, their invasion of Earth foiled which lead to their queen dying and finally they got their asses handed to them by the builders to the point where they had to join an alliance that included their mortal enemies, the Kree. They had descending into dozens of factions lead by competing warlords, but after the Builder war, they picked KL'RT the Super Skrull as thier supreme leader. They haven't done much since, given Secret Wars happened immediately afterwards.

I mean we don't even know if they're really fighting each other

All we have is a teaser that has them about to punch each other

Which hints at that, yeah, but there have been misleading or mostly inaccurate teasers for events before and they are obviously trying to get that Civil War buzz by plastering the image of CAPTAIN AMERICA VS. IRON MAN everywhere

But Bendis has written 4 events, 3 of which are fantastic (1 Of those probably being the single best event they've done outside of maybe Secret Wars depending on how it ends) and is also writing a pretty great, fun Iron Man book right now so I very much doubt Tony will be in the antagonistic role he is usually shoved into. And with Sam Wilson having one of the most acclaimed books in the relaunch and also being super liberal and proactive and a great hero he likely isn't going to be either.

There's a ton we don't know. I'm tired of heroes fighting each other too but just as Secret Wars only had a few tenuous connections to the original event this might just have a handful of similar themes to CW 1.

I said we should maybe wait before shitting on event we know nothing about other than "there is a teaser image of Cap and Iron Man facing off"

If you hate that teaser that's totally fine but there are tons and tons of different ways they could tell a story based on that image and we have no idea what they are actually doing

Like I get why the gut reaction is OH GOD THEY'RE JUST DOING CIVIL WAR ALL OVER AGAIN, that is what the teaser is kind of meant to envoke, but Marvel literally just did a giant event all about revisiting old events and putting distinct spins on them so there's not a lot of reason to believe this is going to just be the same thing with a different status quo going in. Especially since Bendis is already writing Tony as extremely likeable and heroic and dashing which is already totally against one of the first event's biggest flaws.
