Have you ever heard of Valve Software? You probably know these guys:
They make popular video entertainment titles, like the smash hits Richochet
and Deathmatch Classic
Did you also know that they SELL other video entertainment titles? It's true!
This is the thread where we talk about all the quality software that Valve sells on the Steam digital software distribution platform! (And other entertainment software for personal computers available elsewhere!)
I did it, I made my first SE++ OP, I'm a real forumer now.
Oh also a big TF2 update came out yesterday, they added this taunt which is the best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Buhi-LrSUlk
Other people can join in near you and dance along like the conga and Russian dance taunts
Yeah they added that feature....2 months ago? Or something? Didn't play it back then though. Basically they added CS:GO-like weapon cases which...drop only in the campaigns? I think? Again, I'm not sure I understand it all
So I don't get the new TF2 thing. You have to pay for access to the campaign, then pay again for keys to unlock the drops?
Pretty much, yeah. $7 gets you a campaign pass, which gives you 26 randomized Contracts over the next three months. Each contract is a set of objectives that require you to complete certain objectives with either specific classes, weapon, or maps. Completing a contract either gets you a weapon skin from the Gentlemann or Harvest collection, or one of two weapon cases that will contain a skin from one of the other two collections (Pyroland and Warbird). Of course, if you get a case, you still have to buy a key to open it and get the skin inside, but unlike the free ones these can be unusual (have a fancy visual effect) and/or strange (which track your stats with that weapon and display them to everyone looking at it). You can also start getting the Tough Break Cosmetic case as a random drop outside of contracts as long as you have a campaign pass, which has a new set of hats/cosmetics that can also be strange/unusual.
If it was less than $7, or if the odds of getting a case instead of just a skin were WAY lower, than it would be totally fine. I really don't like that it gives you so many rewards that you have to pay for (in the last campaign, I think approximately 2/3 (maybe a little lower) of my contract rewards were cases), but at least you can sell them on the community market. If there's a skin you specifically want, you can always just buy it on the market. The prices on most of them drop super-fast since so many people are opening cases. The contracts are fun and make you play the game in ways you might not normally do it, but I dunno if the rewards are enough.
In addition to those, every skin will have a random wear pattern, plus chances to have extra stickers or different decorations (alternate faces on the Mr. cuddles minigun, etc.)
Origin, but I've been banishing myself from playing Battlefront since Star Wars premiered because I imagine every match as people just typing spoilers in the game chat.
They don't even do the Pyroland thing? Phhhhhh
(they look sweet though...but double paygate! Naw!)
Yeah
I actually much prefer the Gentlemann skins and a few of the Harvest skins, those are straight contract rewards and don't require keys. Of course, since they don't come out of a case, you can't get them as stranges or unusuals :rotate:
I'll probably pick up a campaign pass sometime after Christmas and run the contracts. You can trade 6(I think, might be more) skins of one rarity to get a random one of the next rarity up from one of the collections you used, so I'm hoping I can combine some of the old skins I got from the first campaign with garbage I get from the new one into something good.

A friend of mine mentioned that people were skipping chat altogether and making spoilers in big text their profile pic. That way, at the end of the round, it displays the avatars of the top players in a large size, so if you do well everyone would have to see it. Ugh.

I can't stop playing this dumb ghost in the shell game.
God help me I'm getting good at it.
I'm feeling this way about Dirty Bomb, which a friend introduced me to ~five-six weeks ago.
I think the devs themselves have said they were looking for the WS: Enemy Territory feel? I'd say it's a pretty good casual competitive shooter, since the only skill necessary to git gud is to keep moving, ALL THE TIME. If you're more into CSGO and strategic keeping alive-shootings, listening for footsteps and such, they've got that as well, with bomb planting and no respawns. There's a decent amount of varying classes to suit your preferred playstyle (different versions of objective clears/healing/killing shit dead) and there's no need to shell out dollars for them since you'll get enough ingame credits to get a character in about a week.
It was really a long time ago since I enjoyed an online shooter but this one is really fun! Nice feel to the shoot/dodge-duels
I tried Dirty Bomb when it first came out, but was hugely turned off by the progression system. I don't know if it still works the same, but it was similar to Mass Effect 3 multi where you'd basically spend in-game currency to buy a chest (or whatever) of random gear. They added that extra F2P knife twist by making the chest with guaranteed rare gear only available for actual money. And this isn't just cosmetic stuff.

Doesn't bother me much. You get some minor edges from equipment cards, but those drop randomly from finishing matches and can be credit-bought either through cheap cases or a maxed-out (every merc has 9 card setups in total) card for roughly 1/4 the cost of a merc. When you've been playing for a while you'll have tons of crap cards from just being in matches and can use those to craft better cards for a pittance cost. Rare cards are just skin overweening, game traits are exactly the same, and the money aspect is for getting hold of mercs and shit faster, and thus wholly overpassable imo.

The hell is that

I'm mostly just curious, because it says it'll take a solid 17 gigs at this point, and ... that seems much higher than I remember

Apparently it was just 2.45GB at launch.
Tuesday's the day!
It's a 1-6 player co-op horde mode against AI-controlled evil robots.

I think it's not for me
I probably have a pyroland weapon I can give you, if you want.
They're not valuable or anything and I never use them.
(also I got the original Pyroland weapons)
It's not quite like those. The new Pyroland weapons are stock weapons with fancy skins, they don't do any Pyroland stuff. Here they are:

I think what you should do is, you'd pretend you are one of those deaf-mutes
(then you wouldn't be able to play it anymore)
Under the 'key information' section, it mentions an "updated game engine"
so
a) is this anything significant?
b) is this the same release found on gog?

This is pretty accurate to the experience of owning one of those Sphero toys
I'm confused, I thought that game was 3D? What am I mistaking it for? 3D RTS, space, Alien-like art style?
