Here is my opinion as a fan who regularly plays Sonic games: The best games are Sonics 1-3&Knuckles, and Generations. The only good spinoff game was Knuckle Chaotix.

The bungee mechanic is only troublesome in the following situations:
1) you're playing it 2-player. Sonic games really didn't do 2-player very well to begin with and Chaotix made it worse.
2) you're playing characters who aren't Charmy and Espio. Charmy and Espio make that game fun because they are the fastest characters and Espio becomes a yo-yo of doom. An Espiyoyo of doom, as it were.
Further Sonic opinions: I've never played Sonic '06 so I personally can't say it's the worst one I've ever played. The worst ones I've ever played, in order of worst to worster, are Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D Blast.

Yeah, but spinball was a pinball game.
Pinball games are stupidly hard.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I think Milla's new look is the most improved one. Her old outfit straight-up didn't make sense, either in the sprite or in the official artwork. It was like a leotard and a... cape? With straps at the corners that attached to her knees? Or like... half of a Snuggie? Anyway, yeah, love the new Milla.
Lilac's new look has taken some getting used to, but it's really grown on me. She at least looks more like a dragon and less like a slightly altered hedgehog. The inexplicable blue things on the sides of her head are now more detailed and less exlplicable. The robe thing is a step up from... whatever she was wearing before. A tank top and shorts, but with a big belt? Or another leotard? Not sure.
Cory's a new character. Nothing to add except she looks badass.
Carol's the character that's changed the least, but the newer, more detailed art style makes her exposed midriff suddenly seem kind of weird. On the upswing, a lot of her new look emphasizes that she's supposed to be the tough one. Bonus points for cat ears on the helmet.
Look all this fighting about what Sonic games are good is silly. We just need to wait for Speed to Place all the Sonic games and then we'll know the truth.

I include Sonic CD in the "best" category. The time travel mechanic is hit-or-miss with some people, but the time trial mode of the game redeems it of all the weirdness. Finding and executing the fastest path through each level is absolutely sublime; previously slower levels with precision platforming are revealed to have shortcuts and tricks that can be exploited at high speed. Each little platform, each enemy is placed just so. Everything makes more sense when you barrel through at maximum velocity. It's one of the only instances where the "gotta go fast" philosophy the newer games like to use is paired with great level design and physics.
-make F-Zero GX 2
-change the car into Sonic
-add a jump button
-break up the races with cutscenes that furries can whack it to even though on their face they are perfectly innocent
Nah, the idea that the most important thing to Sonic is goes fast results in long dumb levels on a highway where you just have to turn at the right point or you fall off the edge instantly. The best 3d sonic games have had competent 3d platforming and branching paths in addition to parts where you just run really fast and dodge stuff.
Original Sonic games treated speed as a reward and that's something I think a lot of the newer games have missed. Going fast all the time in those games leads to frustration because the camera and controls are never even remotely precise enough to make it anything other than frustrating.

I thought going slow and getting all the rings/power rings/emeralds was the reward, so you could go hyper Sonic on the second Robotnik boss and watch him commit sepuku by sucking your golden spiky butt into his machine.
One thing I don't like about Super Sonic in recent games, is it's just handed to you at the end of the game. It was nice to unlock it early once you knew where all the special stages were and handily trounce everything.
The secret final boss in Sonic (3) and Knuckles was cool, but now it's just the expected end to every game.

Well you need Super Sonic now to do the big dumb cutscene at the end, and you can't do the butt rock song and not have people hear it
The actual solution is of course to just bring back Hyper Sonic

That reminded me of this video, which has nothing to do with Sonic at all

Well, I'm going to keep waiting for there to be a bad Sonic game.
Spinoffs that are in different genres are kind of a stretch to include in that.
Sonic 4, arguably sonic 3. are you counting the sonic adventure games as main line games? because if so, those. Sonic The Hedgehog (2006).
Also, disagree on the Adventure games and 3. Haven't played 4 or 06 to comment.
Ganondorf is my favorite werehog.
Never played Chaotix, but this is a good opinion.
it looks like old school sonic but it plays way differently due to the bungee cord partner gimmick

spinball is punishingly difficult

their stories diverge about 2/3 of the way through and they each have a level the other doesn't
spoilering because a lot of you probably aren't interested

Eh. It was good, I thought. Certainly can be improved, which is why I hope it does.
That said, I much preferred the 3DS one. Just controlled better.
