I'd like something like that that let's me buy old games off the net. I don't want to spend money on Wii U that I'll maybe buy 1 current game for.

You can get a wii for like 30 bucks

If the mini NES sells, maybe that'll happen. Mini SNES and mini N64?

Yep, honestly the most exciting thing about this announcement, to me, is the possibility of a mini snes and a mini n64 in the future

Oh, that's good. Still though, unless you're only interested in 4 or less NES games from that list, or you really want SNES, Genesis, and N64 content too and are willing to pay a bunch more, this thing is still cheaper than getting a Wii since the games are all preloaded.

A tiny NES with an hdmi port and save states that comes with an NES controller is really cool and I think 60 bucks is a steal

The controller is what I think makes it worth it.

There's gonna be a ton of parents buying that thing for their kid so they can play old games the way we used to.

    Exactly.

The target audience for this thing isn't people who had the Wii/Wii U or kept their old consoles or bought VC games, its people looking for a nostalgia trip and not having to do arcane things to get an older console working on their current TV & a minimal number of peripherals to buy for it (for those unfamiliar with that plug style and missed it upthread, its a Wii Remote controller jack. So if you had any Wii controllers you can plug those in instead of the pseudo-NES controller it comes with).

Like, they can't tell that the lag is happening or think it always did that.

Megaman 3 was the first megaman game I beat.

That final Wily boss took forever, and as a kid it took ages to figure out that I could Snakeman's powers to shoot snakes into the cockpit. I think I left the game on overnight because we couldn't figure it out.

Probably because it'd be bad taste to name something after the Iran-Contra affair out here in the west.

All the more obvious when you note some of the bgm names and such.

I'd put more stock in Nintendo's claims of aiming for near-perfect emulation of each game if I didn't keep reading so many complaints about it.

    neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1040125

Normally I wouldn't pay attention to a Neogaf thread nitpicking about graphics but when Nintendo says they're aiming for perfection, then yeah, I'd consider the nitpicks to be valid.

I also don't get why they're aiming for near-perfect emulation. What does that achieve? There were scores of PS1 titles that could be played on the PSP and people more or less seemed happy with that service? I mean, I'm sure there were problems in the emulation here and there but I don't think that caused any major controversies or lost sales.

Nintendo gets a little weird about their legacy sometimes and makes up these weird standards that I think they think people hold them to, even though no one (other than insane weirdos like myself) actually gives a crap.

The only reference I found that mentioned the reasoning is liquisearch.com/list_of_regionally_censored_video_games/nes and it does make sense as to why.

As an anecdotal note - my co-worker's husband doesn't own a gaming console. He plays some stuff on his phone casually, but certainly wouldn't call himself a gamer. He linked the miniNes on his Facebook, tagging her, to buy him one when they come out. Nintendo is going to hit an audience with this one I think.

Well, the GB Tetris and Tetris Axis were pulled from the 3DS eShop, so it's most definitely licensing.
