the closest overwatch character to the pyro in terms of role based on mobility, range and damage output is Reaper
but you have to aim with reaper
you have to aim with pyro
backburner pyro (which arguably should be how the pyro always works--tagg was saying on stream the flamethrower should do way more damage, but use ammo faster) really doesn't, it's 100% positioning/situational awareness and that's it. Aim doesn't factor in at all.
finding someone's back can take a lot of work in a hectic situation
and, technically, you're aiming no matter what
the flamethrower is just easier to do it with
okay like sure, on a technicality you still aimed the RYNO in ratchet & clank (essentially just click button -> kill all enemies on screen gun), but I mean aiming as in precise tracking a la mccree/76/spy's revolver
like, tbqh, there is very little skill into the actual handling pyro's flamethrower. And that's okay! The skill in using the class just comes in different areas. Which is why Winston absolutely feels closer than Reaper does, because if you're in close range with someone and you're firing, you're still doing damage basically no matter what. Whereas Reaper can have someone standing right in front of him and if you're not tracking properly you'll do next to no damage, and that feels like a huge difference to me.
I love moonmoon's music selection when he's playing reinhardt
It's just not the full reinhardt experience unless you've got '80s inspirational rock songs playing in the background

Just played 2 excellent matches, outranked on both, held both at the first point. I played Bastion for 3 of the 4 rounds and cleaned house.
Also I play on PS4 and a guy on my team had the username "XBOX_LIVE"

i feel like I've finally crested over a ridge with ana
aim is improving, i'm finding my useful spots in the formation without overextending more often, outhealed a mercy on our team the other day

I nano boosted an Ulting Soldier for the first time last night
a friendly lucio can act effectively as a wall against ana's healing
just zipping back and forth
sometimes from off-screen, just in time to eat a nano-boost
Miss me? Find me on:

I played and won two games on pharah today. right now I'm just playing her and only her unless I really, really have to play like lucio(I found mercy to be awful) with the plan that I suck at everything so I should focus on one person to at least have one person I can not suck as. pharah is good because 'close enough' gets the job done and I think my rocket aim is slowly improving as long as I don't get placed against like level 90 people where I am obviously not going to win and I might as well leave and find a new game

I did this just last night
I felt pretty terrible about it, plus we lost that round of KotH so I got to feel extra bad .
Lucio and Ana may just be a sub-optimal combo in certain situations
A Lucio who knows how to maintain healing on the party without getting in the way is crucial, and it seems like wall-riding is an important factor; you can stay close to the team but also protect yourself and stay out of Ana's range. There are a lot of Lucio's who think there isn't much nuance to the character (and most of the time there isn't), but using his whole kit effectively does mean you need to work with (rather than against) any other healer.
It's why I'm a pretty bad Lucio, but will happily play Zenny, Mercy and Ana (in that order).

When folk read me as male in comp I don't correct them because it's too much fucking trouble
yeah I can only imagine what that could lead to
I used to not give an answer when asked if I'm a girl, but figured that, in my personal view, it's important that these people know that there are girls among them, and I'm old enough not to give a fuck what the response is

haven't been winning especially much lately, but have been fortunate to get grouped with some nice bunches of folks- people chatting across team lines, discussing game mechanics between matches, being generally polite and good sports
as a result I've been trying to be a bit more talkative and friendly beyond the boilerplate glhf and ggwp
To redeem the world slightly, someone posted their 3rd grade daughter's assignment on r/overwatch

yeah see this is what I love about the game
I don't mind losing (much), particularly if we still played well OR if we were just completely outmanoeuvred, so long as people are still being nice, friendly, and encouraging! The number of Aussies on my friends list has doubled since the start of this season (and I'm pretty quick with removing people who turn out to be jerks) and me and a few other forumers have already told some of the younger groupies off for making stupid comments or using shitty language, and they're learning! One of them (an 18 year-old dude) even said to me yesterday that he was pretty appreciative of me calling him out when he's getting hotheaded/intense/worked up because he knows he gets a bit out of hand with it.
Australian slang also populates a lot of its sporting and gaming language with "boys" as the generic collective term - "let's go, boys" etc is used so often it's viewed as gender-neutral, but even the younger guys in the group are starting to get that it's not very inclusive and do make efforts to change it. It's gotten to the stage where if they DO use shitty language, I don't have to say anything before they go "aw shit, sorry, did it again" and I get to laud them for at least acknowledging it and for trying. I worry that sometimes they'll get bored of always having to mind their language and just remove me from their lists, but that hasn't happened yet.
Arcade mode is a hell of a thing. Had a game where the enemy team had 4 tracers, first life was me with a rein shield getting swarmed from all sides at once.
Second life, I realized I could just swing my hammer near the point and always hit a tracer. Rest of the round was a lot of fun.

so like
what should I say instead of "let's go bois"
because I still mostly mentally default to that, and while I've changed saying "guys" and "bois" in text to "peeps" that doesn't really work well in the spoken word

I dunno, literally any non-gendered collective works, and if you use it enough, it will become your default
or do what I do and go hard in the other direction, replace it with "girls"
I mostly do that to be a challenging shit, but it's never led to any conflict, ymmv

the problem is it needs to be a single syllable non-gendered collective that rolls off the tongue easily, and I can't think of one right now
friends is too long, buds doesn't flow (the hard b followed by an unstressed vowel feels really weird), peeps' long e makes it awkward

She's fun, but I never feel like I can heal enough.
Really? She's the fastest healer in the game if you just hold primary fire on your tank's butt.

Just had a 25-minute match on Hollywood. Basically you just need a good Mei on either team and it becomes a test of endurance.
Yep, Mei is basically unkillable with her heal and wall cooldowns reduced like this.

used the mic as usual - call outs, warnings, etc
did also tell a Hanzo who was bullied into changing characters that I wouldn't have minded if he stayed as Hanzo
and he asked if I was a girl, which I said I was (visibility etc)
and immediately got a/s/l, you sound like a total cutie, etc constantly through the match

A/S/L questions feel like they belong in a 90's AOL chatroom.
the last FPS I played online on PC was TF2, and even then almost exclusively on the PA servers; prior to that would've been UT2004
the last PC game I played that used voice comms was Guild Wars 2, which I played predominantly with the PA guild
the last FPS I played at all before Overwatch was Battlefront, which didn't benefit much from voice comms (back when I was playing)
my voice also allegedly oscillates between that of a 12 year-old boy and that of a woman
so yeah, literal years
Goddammit, world.
