Now the Trump campaign's insanity ouroboros really begins. Does he really imagine that the lunatics who actually believe the birther nonsense will have forgotten when they started yelling about it? Conspiracy people keep meticulous notes, they have to just do keep their crazy shit straight, how does Trump think that they won't realize he's full of it?

I mean they probably won't in a way that will matter to the election, but just goddamn man. At least pander to the only people who actually believe in you.

I don't even understand how it came up. Who even talks about birther stuff any more? Obama is all but out of office.

I would be so, so happy if this depressed turnout among his hardcore racist base because 'you told the truth and now you walked it back, like any other politician!'

Most of them will probably forgive it because 'oh, he's just saying what he needs to in order to get elected!'

But goddamn, if it had an impact, how happy would I be.

They didn't until Trump. Trumps existence in the race and being taken seriously by the press legitimizes his views.

I don't think supporters care much about his actual actions at this point. Not in a deluded sense, they just consider him a figurehead for their movement. His views aren't all that important, it's that he's Strong.

While the vast majority of those folks would forgive Trump if he said 'Obama was actually a great president and I love multiculturalism!' as 'he just says what he needs to get elected', I have to believe there's at least a subset who were so happy that a major candidate was finally speaking the -truth-, and him walking back the birther conspiracy is a slap in the face.

Not a sizable percentage. But -some-.

    Just let me believe, Munkus.

No, see, the "brilliance" of his incoherent and utterly baseless statements and nonexistent held positions allow his core...Corp? Core Corp of supporters to have an unparalleled amount of cognitive dissonance. They get to believe literally whatever they WANT to believe about Teump because he has inevitably said something to support that at some point.

Largely unreported outside of local news: An Alabama oil pipeline has leaked 252,000 gallons of gasoline

They don't know what caused the leak, or where it is, but they are assuring the public that the spill is contained (neat trick, that) and of no danger to them.

But don't worry that Dakota pipeline is of no risk to the water supply, nothing bad ever happens to pipelines guys

No I didn't expect him to. He has a lot to lose by rocking the NBC boat. But I'd appreciate him to at least say "if I can't ream him, then he can't be on my show."

He's never demonstrated that kind of resolve and to deny a presidential nominee would be rocking the NBC boat.

that doesn't make him immune to criticism though

I think it does, a little bit?

Is it Jimmy Fallon's job to grill his guests?

When letterman had a guest on he disliked, the guest and audience fucking knew it. He didn't go after them outright, but there was frequently palpable venom behind his questions. Don't get me wrong, letterman was a soft gig, but there are ways of acquiescing to network demands that don't mean you turn into a puddle of jello and ooze obsequiously around their genitals.

Not that I had any respect for Fallon at any point in the past, mind you.

Letterman had Trump on once and you could tell that Letterman thought he was a shithead. That was the interview where Trump started complaining about how the US outsources all of its American jobs and yadda yadda, then Letterman pulled out some of Trump's sweatshop ties with the "made in China" tag on them. All Trump could do was shrug, but he was completely unconcerned by the fact that Letterman had just proven, right in front of him, that he's a liar and a hypocrite. I think the video is still on youtube somewhere.

Letterman was so fucking great sometimes.

    *edit*

    Here it is

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYoOPgeTMQc

And the Clinton campaign has begun using it for a while now:

    https://youtu.be/6dtk1eX7UBE

I honestly didn't know about that! I don't watch a lot of tv or other shows, so I never see the campaign ads. That's a pretty great clip for the HRC campaign to use, though.

I was wondering.. why is Ivanka stumping for Trump instead of Melania? I mean, sure her speech at the RNC was plagiarized, but considering the pivot Trump has made in the general direction of "getting his shit together" (relatively), I find it hard to believe Melania wouldn't be on-message as well.

Considering how mad she was about the RNC speech, I expect she gave him an ultimatum along the lines of "keep me out of it from now on or we're done."

Trump will just claim that it's already done as a part of the millions "he" has "donated" in the past.

Now if you'll excuse me my eyes rolled out of my head and I have to go find them now.

I was going to say something hardass sounding like "Marry him? I wouldn't waste the turds to crap on him."

And then I remembered the time when I was a teenager in a shopping center/business park that he owned in West Palm Beach, and I took a dump in the plastic ferns in front of his lawyer's office while my mom stood guard at the end of the hall, because none of the businesses had any public toilets.

If Peter Pan were real, this would be a happy enough thought to let me fly to the Moon and back.

Realizing lately that I don't really trust or respect basically any of the moderators here. So, good luck with life, friends! Hit me up on Twitter @DesertLeviathan
