Upon further reflection i have decided that the worst part of this movie is that no line is as quotable in everyday conversations as "I'm Star Lord"
"Yes, Drax, I have a penis."
    I'm Mary Poppins y'all!

I hope that Zune has some music from after the mid 80s on it, if only to see how Peter reacts

@Blankzilla, give me your Vol. 3 playlist.
    Oh christ, okay.

This is gonna be a little bit.

It is I, Zonugal, the master distractor!
Okay @Zonugal my picks, with a little help from @Theodore Floosevelt in no particular order
with the cut off being 2006 since thats the last time anyone actually bought a Zune
Tougher Than Leather - Run DMC
    Float On - Modest Mouse
    Car - Built to Spill
Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
    Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
The Seed (2.0) - The Roots
Kiss From A Rose - Seal
Huddle Formation - The Go! Team
I Left My Wallet in El Segundo - A Tribe Called Quest
Singin' A Melody - Bill Fox
    Spiderweb - No Doubt
    19-2000 (Soulchild Mix) - Gorillaz
Mr. Tough - Yo La Tengo

Tried to avoid too many super recognizable super popular hits

It ain't perfect but whatever that's too much music to sift through

    Hmm...
Replace every song with just Kiss From a Rose and I'll allow it.

I'm having trouble matching most of the songs to their scenes in this, outside of
My Sweet Lord as they're flying over Ego's world, Brandy, and Mr. Blue Sky, like...I remember hearing the Chain and Surrender but I cannot tell you what they were playing over?

Man, I loved my Zune. That unlimited music subscription service that also gave you ten credits for free songs every month was the best. You can't get a deal like that anywhere now.

Yes, but I still want that movie too.

I would pay a bunch of dollars to watch Chris Evans as Steve Rogers react to the twist that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father.

I think the best way to do the pay off on that
Would have been to have had teenGroot listening to something decidedly more modern on Peter's Zune and Peter yelling at him about how it's not real music.

Like Metallica or fuck it and use Nirvana or something.

    I am pretty sure that

I enjoyed this (Drax was especially great), but Groot was awful. He has the same character traits as a Minion. I don't actually have a problem with the Minions in the Despicable Me movies, but I don't want them in the MCU.

Yeah, it plays right as Quill and everyone leave for Ego and Rocket/Groot are left behind to repair the ship/watch over Nebula.

Yeah I think it plays when they leave Rocket on the planet while Quill, Drax and Gamora goes with his dad. During that short slowmo scene

Yeah remember that scene when Groot obsessed over bananas? Or sought out the most evil person for a job opportunity? Or talked in gibberish noises?

Ohhh my mistake, when you said "all the same character traits as a Minion" I thought you were being serious, not doing a completely inaccurate bit.

So I ended up watching this again. And afterwards got into a discussion about what makes Yondu's arrow an effective weapon. I do think it is cool as hell and scary to boot. Bit I have a difficult time articulating why that's the case. What makes Yondu's arrow more effective than any other space gun we've seen in similar movies?

Well it follows his commands based on thought so no time spent pointing or aiming. Just a sight and thought. It also stays usable in repeat uses so he was able to have it just wade through people twisting and turning to hit new targets. At some points he didn't even need to seeable by the guys he was killing.

Well, the arrow seems to be heavy-armor piercing and at the total control of the user. It can find you. Like, you can end up in a situation where it's hunting you.

Also, we as a species have a much more fleshed-out understanding of an arrow than we do a bullet. For many of us, a bullet hits you, and there's blood, and you die. But we know that an arrow goes into you and stabs through parts of you and jams into bones and seems like a really big nail fastening things together that don't belong and you can't pull it out and.

Coincidentally, this is also why we shouldn't talk shit about Ewoks.

    No, it's hyperbole.

One thing that's really stuck with me thinking about this film
Is that while Rocket and Peter bury the hatchet over their in-fighting, Rocket is still deeply saddened after apologising. Admitting that you've been a jerk and you're not proud of it doesn't magically make it go away, there's still a lot of self-reflection/improvement that has to follow.

I'll say that as the dad of a baby, they nailed Groot's body language and facial expressions. The whole bit where he puts the thing on his head was right out of my kid's playbook and totally adorable.

One point in this movie where I couldn't help but wonder what it was like to film it
Yondu having an intense emotional stare down with a CGI Raccoon.

I just keep thinking about that on set with whatever guy's stuck in the mocap suit staring back at him.
