I always wanna be Dragoon in FF online games.
And I made a cute as fuck Taru-taru or whatever they are called now.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I liked how many buttons you needed to push and how much you needed to move around. I'd basically get in the zone while playing and could listen to a podcast in the background and be mostly concentrating on that while I was on autopilot.
As soon as that extra inventory space is actually live in the game and confirmed not to be expansion only or some other crap, I'll probably resub for a month and see how it feels.
they have ninjutsu and a couple cooldowns but ninja is like training wheels compared to dragoon
"A couple cooldowns", eh?
Current things to pay attention to on NIN:
1) Huton timer. Keep that active.
2) Dancing Edge. If there's no WAR in the group you need to maintain this on the boss (10%, and I think it boosts PLD and DRK damage too so...)
3) Two DoTs. Because ultimately these are doing more per GCD than Aeolian will.
4) Ninjitsu cooldown. Fire on cooldown. If Trick Attack is coming off cooldown make sure you Suiton to apply vulnerability.
5) Other oGCD cooldowns: Mug on cooldown, Jugulate on cooldown if no interrupts needed, Dream on cooldown (every other will hit a vulnerability), Duality for Aeolian (Armor Crush if you have to).
Which isn't awful, but... it's a lot of moving parts. Not really a strict rotation, just a lot of watching timers (Huton, Dancing Edge, DoTs, Trick Attack cooldown mainly). Stormblood's dropping two of those timers out though (one less DoT to maintain, the dancing edge debuff is rolled onto a different combo ender so you get it for free basically).
I do think SMN is easier to play though, although half of it is much the same as SCH play (keep your pile of DoTs ticking) due to their shared spells.
I think MNK has it the hardest of the melee DPS though, just because of how much scripted periods of not hitting the boss hurt their output. NIN can just spend a ninjitsu cooldown to refresh Huton and has a 40-second buffer of safety anyways if they refresh every 30 seconds. DRG loses the rest of Blood of the Dragon if it's up, but doesn't have nearly as much setup as MNK (their big damage buff is a combo starter, for instance).
since debuff timers are linked to the boss health bar and in a central position they've never been an issue for me. most of their cooldowns line up so while you do have several of them you're using trick attack/duality/dream within a dream all at the same time. ninja has always been the easiest HW melee class for me.
bards are a whole different thing entirely, they're easy but supremely annoying to play
it's not my favorite thing either but getting your guy all amped up for trick attack-duality-dream within a dream is fun so I don't know, the ninja ones were once a minute except for one but I just used that one when it lined up with the other cooldowns. that was manageable.
tracking resetting cooldowns to me is the absolute worst. it's not just an mmo thing either, they did it with a demon hunter set in diablo 3 and it was so awful
Stance dancing with Cleric Stance was a lot of fun and I'm kind of sad they're taking it out.
I mean, I understand why they're removing it, but damn if playing chicken with the tanks healthbar while throwing rocks at shit wasn't the most fun thing in the world to me. That 5 second cool down was the perfect thing to induce a little bit of stress into an otherwise straightforward role, and just automatically having MND as your damage stat isn't gonna be the same.
the thing i like about removing it is that i'll have more incentive to dps when i'm doing a dungeon for the first time
normally i'm like "oh no i don't know when the high stress points are i don't know if the boss is about to use a super move what if it's going to happen immediately after i stance swap"
Yeah, like I said I totally understand removing it cause it really is the poster boy of unnecessary difficulty, but something about the actual act of stance dancing appealed to me on a very visceral level.
And hoo boy I just looked up the 4.0 White Mage changes and wow I do not like this at all.

This is probably why I don't DPS in this game.
At least SAM looks like a DPS that doesn't do this.

Speaking of healing, I took AST into an 8 man fight for the first time today and managed to set off an expanded royal road Balance during the last phase of Garuda and basically felt like king shit of awesome mountain.
AST got really good and are going to continue to be incredible into 4.0
think like, 900 potency heal aoes that also do 500 potency damage

They do seem to be hearing people's criticism of the new White Mage stuff. Doubt they have time to do anything about it before release but here's hoping.
so what you're hearing is i should get AST to cap in expansion prep and abandon my max WHM
I needed anime to post. on

Well yeah, but you know, future might be brighter. Or try scholar maybe. Broil 2 looks cool.
IDK though I never do anything harder than Trials. The new WHM stuff is more disappointing to me because it isn't cool, not because it's not very powerful.
I hope they announce a Switch version and that version runs... decently. Gaijinhunter was saying that it was in the low teens on Switch when he saw it which is... Well, I can put up with a not-great framerate, but that seems especially rough.

Bluugh checking the FF14 thread in the MMO subforum is reminding me why I don't usually post outside of SE.
Hey, Hildebrand is actually terrible, did ya know?

One person said they don't like the Hildebrand questlines. Someone else said the equivalent of "And it's alright to have that personal opinion." I'm not seeing the problem here.

ff14 thread usually is all about Hildebrand.
Most people over there love the heck out of him.

Sorry. I'm just kinda used to the shenanigans people get into here and am used to it. The tone of other subforums kinda side swipes me.
talking about ff14 has made me more interested in it again but I still would really want to wait and see how things shake out with jobs at max level first. I looked at the sam abilities but it didn't give me a very good idea of how exactly they play
I beat Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories today, and it makes the beginning of KH2 a lot more hilarious
???
So the basic plot of Chain of Memories is that Sora is lured to this castle, where Namine is systematically altering his memories so he can be used as a tool for the Organization. This plan ultimately fails, though Namine DOES succeed at messing with his memories enough where he no longer remembers anything before entering the castle. Namine offers to fix this, but it could take some time, and he basically has to be in a coma in this pod looking thing until its done. She mentions that the only way for her to fix his memories, is to basically erase any memory of anything that happened during Chain of Memories. Sora says okay and then jumps in, but not before Jiminy has a brilliant idea of 'hey, I'll just write in my journal to "Thank Namine" so even if we forget, we'll read the journal after and remember!
Fast forward to the 2nd game, where Sora emerges from the same pod after a year, with his old memories intact. As Namine predicted, they have no memory of anything that hapened in CoM, which is why its never referenced, and when they look at Jiminy's journal, and see the lone entry of "Thank Namine" their reacton is basically "Who the hell is that? Oh well, must not be very important."

Chain of Memories has a really goofy plot.
Not nearly the goofiest plot in Kingdom hearts.
But pretty goofy.

DRG seems to be getting slightly less annoying in Stormblood
Machinist still has the RNG garbage, though
unless they drastically reduce the number of buttons you need to actually combo, DRG is still gonna be ass, which is a shame
I enjoy everything about ff14 except actually playing it for long times

I was not a fan of the extra stress people expected you to put on yourself in order to help with DPS.
Way less people get salty about my DPS being meh than they do me letting the tank die cause I really wanted combust 2 to hurt.

The world is really pretty.
I am SUPER hoping we get an English release date at E3 this weekend. I need a jurp to look forward to after the hole P5 has left.
