I'm not sure if I love or hate that the X-blade thing makes no sense (in reference to characters being confused by pronunciation of a word that sounds identical to Keyblade)
I think I love it
I wonder if in Japan they have different sounds?
Unlikely
If they're pronouncing both loan words as they should work phonetically, than they'd sound identical. One of them might have a longer "ee" sound than the other, but that'd be it.
EDIT: Just checked the KH wiki. "Keyblade" is spelled using katakana, so it's a phonetic match to how we say "key" in English.
Xigbar makes his whole "badass" pose as he summons Heartless and seems to warp out. Then the camera changes angles and you see him running away behind Sora.
Well you see all of the Disney worlds in KH1 are very bad, except maybe Neverland
and the Mulan one is a very fun tread through the story of the movie with some Heartless bullshit thrown in there too
It looks great and it's fun to get through, it's cool having Mulan around cause she's great
It deletes both armies in the conflict and the setback in the story and the conflict over sexism. There's nothing left in Mulan to have. Also shooting fireworks at Heartless or running from an avalanche would have been great so they made sure not to do those things. Mulan (the stage, not the movie) is F tier.
Perhaps the biggest letdown of the series has definitely been about how little Disney seems to care about their characters and settings and how they're featured in the games. The storytelling in pretty much every world is godawful.
I do think the best worlds in each game are the ones that usually just serve as backdrops for the main plot, which is why I think Neverland is the only standout in KH1
KH2 spreading out all the Organization members across the worlds let you get some Disney or Final Fantasy mixed in with your JRPG nonsense

It's actually kind of the opposite problem. Disney keeps Square on such a tight leash when it comes to how Square can represent and change the Disney stuff that they can't really do anything super different with it.

You can follow the movies and still have a better finished product. Disney is only really involved in development at two distinct points. Licensing approval, and a yes/no approval of the final product. They play no role of the writing or direction of the worlds, which is why they're so bad
DDD's main issue is they backload a lot of the commands way to much.
I didn't start getting -aga spells and the like until like the next to last level.
That's actually your bad though. You can get commands as quick as you'd like by just focus leveling the monsters you like. I got Curaga almost instantly since your first monster in the game gives it to you...
Yeah some of the Dream Eaters come around later, but if you look through the boards of the guys you make right away, you can prioritize leveling really easily.

Yeah, but the dream eaters that give you cool stuff like Ars Arcanum, Limit Storm, Salvation, frigging MEGA FLARE you aren't going to get unless you grind for drops and shit that you can't really get until real late game, and that sucks.
I don't really think not wanting to grind 300 odd bp and 20 levels on that shitty cat monster at the beginning of the game to get Curaga is my bad.

Well the commands you just mentioned aren't -aga level spells, they're better. So yeah, that IS end game stuff. And he's actually a fantastic cat monster considering he gives you Curaga and Leaf Bracer (two of the most important skills/passives in the game). You can have both Sora and Riku level the same one, which halves the effort.
It doesn't help that the first time we were prominently shown someone displaying yellow eyes as a surprising reveal, it was someone who does get possessed, but before the possession happens.

I don't know when they decided on the whole Xehanort thing but it DEFINITELY wasn't KH1.
So...back when it came out, I tried playing Kingdom Hearts 3D for the 3DS after having played just KH 1 and 2. I got lost about 5 hours in because the plot made no sense and had seemingly nothing to do with anything from the other two games.
Fast forward to this PS4 HD release of everything, and now that I've played / watched through 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, Re:coded, and Chain of Memories, I restarted 3D again, and now things make so much more sense.
So I guess what I'm saying is that 3D, more than any other KH game, really depends on the plot from the rest of the series being known going in.
I'm skipping past my KH2 replay with the intent to go back for it later, cause I have 2.8 on a rental and I wanna blast through it, so Dream Drop Distance is getting started
Turns out just a single shot of the BBS crew lined up with the "modern-day" team is really effective on me
When that whole thing gets assembled for real it's gonna be so rad

Perfect.

I just understood Eraqus's name
Can you explain this please? I think Mulan is maybe one of the worst worlds in the entire series.
just kidding I don't have a strong opinion on the mulan world
and the Mulan one is a very fun tread through the story of the movie with some Heartless bullshit thrown in there too

All that armor off, and she's suddenly powerful.

I really hope they bring back more for KH3
Yeah. shoeboxjeddy, did you mean the idea of playable firework shooting and then running from an avalanche?

I have to go on a 3 month journey now to process this idea
Do I really need to actually PLAY Dream Drop Distance or can I just watch some cutscenes
I definitely wanna play Fragmentary Passage but if most of DDD is just filler gameplay I'll just watch the story, games are actually coming out again
You can probably watch cutscenes on youtube
Yeah, it's actually one of my favorite KH games.
Play DDD if you enjoy KH games. It is up there with BBS as a fun sequel.

I know it's not that different from powerleveling commands to combine them

A succint plot summary to help people confused with series lore.
Nope, it's all just the same dude with yellow eyes or people he has possessed!
Which just makes it better really.
