I think it's kind of a weird thing to give an award for. It would be like giving athlete of the year to someone because they won worlds strongest man.... and the weight lifters who broke records and gymnasts who won gold medals would just be like... "wut?"

I don't... think he plays DOTA or Overwatch or Tekken or any number of other things? They're all very different games.
Just saying, he plays a few of one type of game. Lots of other games, the umbrella of "all esports" is a really weird award. Sort of like if we did it with soccer, american football, rugby, baseball and basketball and just picked one guy because "he's good".
Should probably break up the category.

To be fair, nobody expected World and especially on PC.
They thought they had a market cornered that Capcom didn't but they just savagely fucking uppercutted them without mercy.
Yeah as soon as Capcom announced MHW PC I felt so bad for Dauntless, cause like it is good. . . but not Monster Hunter.
Yeah, I think the pitch for Dauntless was Monster Hunter for the west and PC.
And then World along comes along with that same intent (popularize in the west and on PC) and damn, its been awhile since I felt so bad for a dev..
They must have started sweating buckets after that E3. Their chances of becoming a success probably weren't huge before that but I definitely think it hurt them.
Tbh I'm prolly gonna go back to Dauntless because MHW feels like it has just way too much OCD gathering for my tastes. If Dauntles stays as a faster paced MHW with less crafting then I think it'll maintain an audience of people who just want to smash shit.
Ark was first to market, there have been a ton of follow up games with more features and interesting environments that don't seem to be doing well at all.
I hope it does okay, I just think that trend is on the way out.
