[Steam] Thread: Games, games, and more games - all the games!!!
Posts
I guess that just means I need more engaging games in my backlog? But then I just end up actually playing those. Maybe the backlog challenge just isn’t for me?
Sorry team.
Ends tonight, midnight. Sorry I was going to make a post earlier but time slipped by me. Get your games beat and turned in, ill be updating the past few days and all upcoming entries tonight.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Uhh oh shit! I haven't submitted any of my finished games and won't be able to until Friday due to work. Technicality??
I played through the campaign, but haven't finished the race or straight zombie killing modes.
This game is GTA-Z.
Or perhaps GTA I-Z.
It looks like a pretty low budget game, and the entire campaign takes place on a single map, although the race mode appears to have more.
In this game you make red smears of zombies, stopping between missions to change car or upgrade your weapons.
Weapons and health are scattered across the map as powerups, with objectives being areas that you need to clear of zombies to proceed.
All the modes focus on being fast, with zombies eating survivors, or secondary objectives failing if you don't complete under a certain timelimit.
The zombies don't pose much of a threat, although large hordes of them can slow your car down, and can lay the hurt on your vehicle if you'd only just stop for a second.
The main threat are instead the boomer zombies, who cause significant damage to your car if you run into them, but who can also be baited into exploding prematurely by driving close to them (killing zombies around them and extending your kill streak).
Overall, I could look past the low budget development because the core gameplay of smearing zombies everywhere is fun.
However it's also a box of bugs, and crashes 2-3 times each session.
2/5.
(Also I forgot to mention the campaign story because it is terrible and forgettable, but takes a back seat to the gameplay and bugs)
If you liked Legend of Grimrock, give Vaporum a look. I think it's quite good if you like RT elements in your gridders and if you have a higher threshold for instadeath puzzles than I do. It's good looking and the writing is quite good.

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
I'm also questioning if having half the 8 man team equipped with laser shotguns is smart.
UFO interior? Yes.
Snow level? No.
No, that is not smart. That's a full 50% of your team that is lacking in laser shotgun!

Yeah, I had I think two weekends and many weekdays taken up by ARK: Aberration. By the time I got back, it was way too late to give much.
I feel like this wasn't the best time for many of us, TBH. I'm sure the next one will be better!
Maybe get the art done for my vn and actually start an rpg.

DLC Quest: You paid how much!?
Thankfully free of any actual DLC that you have to spend real money on, DLC Quest is a short and fun satire of the microtransactions that have sprung up around the video game industry.
The game actually contains two stories: the original DLC Quest and a sequel story, Live Freemium or Die!. Both games essentially play the same: platformers where you must collect coins to purchase items and features to progress to the end of the game (or just add silly stuff to it). Such purchases include: moving left, jumping, sound, animation, skipping grind (whettting a sword into usefulness on a literal grindstone), a top hat, swimwear for everybody, A Gun That Is Totally Not Imbalanced (spoilers, it totally is), zombies and armor for your horse. The first game also has double-jumps while the second has wall climbing and also spikes, differentiating the two a bit.
The first story was beaten in about an hour, the second in under two (though it felt like three). The game does a good job at satire, always steeped in metahumor without letting it pull down its own experience. Each story has a set of ten "Awardments" for you to earn, encouraging you to find the end of the story first and then continue finding all the coins, locating all the Secret DLCs and buying them.
My Score: 4/5
Total Playtime: ~3 hours

And with that done, I have most of my contributions to the formal Backlog Challenge. It really wasn't that easy getting myself to play games - I'm generally in the mood to play something in particular - but I'm glad I got a few out of the way. I don't think there's anything else I take from new to beaten in the next four-and-a-half hours, though there are some extra bounties I can extract from what I've already submitted.

Sure, I could have sought out each weakling orc and banished him from my army. Instead I decided to have them fight in the pit! I tried to pair up the level 20-somethings against each other, but eventually they had to face the 40-somethings, and eventually those had to face the level 53s, which is their current level cap (because it's my current level). End result:
Anything with a blue skull over it is one of my orcs. I can guarantee you that any orc that is lying down is most certainly not sleeping. And eventually more orcs will fill the ranks, and I will seek and dominate the epics and legendaries.
Eventually I need to swap out the warchiefs at the top there. They're all low quality too.

I'm tempted to play KotOR II and or Morrowind for this month's "l love this series" challenge, but to be honest I only liked KotOR, not loved it, so that would be a lie. And the original Dungeon Siege was just boring and a slog, so I'm going to have to dedicate other time to beating it's sequel since it's more "give this series another chance" than "love".
Still, that leaves Morrowind, which I feel sort of like I should try until some old mechanic in it just rubs me so the wrong way that I retire it, which I do get the feeling I'll do. I started with Oblivion and I'm not sure how going backwards will feel, as I really relied on all those mechanics to get me through. I guess it's basically a "we'll see" at this point.
Other possible sequels for this month to game series I love are Age of Empires III, Age of Mythology, Age of Wonders III (I'm actually most of the way through the main campaign in this, after which I could consider it done), Assassin's Creed: Rogue, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Borderlands 2, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Epic Mickey 2 (played the original on the Wii and really dug it), Evoland 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Final Fantasy XIII, Hyperdimensional Neptunia Re;birth 2, Legend of Grimrock II, On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 2, Torchlight 2, and of course, Witcher 3. That's a tone of games to choose from, and god knows they aren't all getting played this month. Maybe I'll make a poll, or maybe I'll just let whim decide. I know some of them are honestly much shorter than others, which would help with what I want to do for other months. I think the biggest issue with the month to month challenges of the backlog group, and something I might try and fix after May, is to create multi-month long themes to see how well it accommodates multi-hundred hour games.
I mean, discounting ARK, Terarria, and No Man's Sky, the shortest time in my top 10 most played hours is 77 on Assassin's Creed III, with an average of 162 hours per game. I am that person submitting the "leisure completionist" times on HLTB, and it's not easy to always fit that kind of playtime in, especially as my kid becomes more . . . play-centric? Still, if I can find a way to create something to engage the backlogs of myself and others, especially for long games, I will. But I've got all the month to month stuff figured out until May, so I have until then to figure it out.
I figure I'll work on it around May 31st, right around midnight.
TL;DC (To long; don't care): I have a bunch of really long form games and the current backlog group structure doesn't exactly welcome multi-month play sessions intentionally, so I'm going to try and figure that one out.
No, wait.
... Shit.
In case you haven't played Fallout 4 yet, you can do so for free this weekend.
That last bunch of jumping stuff in Ducktales Remastered was actually not in the original game; it also happens to be the worst part of Ducktales Remastered for me. I guess they felt they had to expand the end of the game there.

I don't remember much from the original game, I didn't remember any platforming that hard though.
(p.s. team 3 is crazy)
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Tugog took up about an hour or more of my time tonight. I initially ran into him via a DLC "quest." He had just the right combination of perks to make him a little difficult, but I managed to weaken him down to the point where I could use Dominate on him. Unfortunately, another orc got interrupted this, and then Tugog two-shotted me. Tugog had been level 54; now he was level 55. I intended to get revenge.
Tugog killed me again the first time I sought revenge. Mainly because two other orc captains showed up in the middle of the fight. Tugog was now level 56.
At this point I figured I'd go for the achievement where you get killed by the same orc three times, then recruit him to your army, so I got killed by Tugog again. And of course, he levelled up to 57.
And now it was time to get started on recruiting him to my army. The first thing I had to do was weaken him enough to use Dominate on him, and then shame him to reduce his level. I succeeded! Tugog was down to level 52. Unfortunately, he still had the Iron Will perk, which means he would resist my recruitment into my orc army. I had to seek him out and shame him again. I succeeded and he was down to level 47, but this finally got rid of Iron Will!
I hunted him down again, finally planning on bringing him back into my orc army. He got a lucky shot on me and killed me! Tugog leveled up to 53.
Finally, I got Tugog weakened enough to use Dominate and then successfully recruited him into my army. Hooray, another legendary orc, and a fun story to tell about how I recruited him.
But wait! Another orc captain just showed up right after I got Tugog. No big deal. Me and my new buddy Tugog will take him down. Oh, this orc captain has a buddy orc captain with him too? Easy. We'll slaughter them all.
Right after I killed the second orc captain, I find out he was Tugog's Blood Brother. Tugog betrayed me and switched sides. He didn't manage to kill me this time, but I figured this was just too much. You can't trust an orc once he betrays you. I hunted down Tugog one last time.
Here are Tugog's final words:
After that, I cut him in half. So ends the Tale of Tugog. I hope you enjoyed this story.

Edit: Nevermind, save just dumps you right before you fight the boss.
Still, played more games than I thought I would this challenge. If I didn't have school and work and whatnot in the way, I totally would've cleaned up. Made some good progress on my backlog, though!

If I remember right, I think each zone has a map you can find that will reveal most collectibles for that area.
Team 1: 313 points!
Team 2: 191.5 points!
Team 3: 487 goddamn crazy amount of points!
That makes team 3 our winner by a large margin! And yes, Zetx played from level 1 to the ending credits for the base game of FFXIV's relaunch for 127 points in a single game! To be fair though, the slider was 127-4086 hours on that game.. so we went with the lowest one.
I truly hope that everyone that took part in our Backlog battle had a good time, even those who were unable to finish a game (That includes me, who tried to play one but literally couldn't focus on even that). I know that the bounties were a huge draw for people, and I've failed them by being unable to come up with any for the 2nd and 3rd weeks. For that I apologize, but if we do another I'll do my best to make them more enjoyable.
Thank you so much to everyone who donated for the drive and everyone who took part in the backlog battle. You're all amazing.
and @Teeman if you hit me up when you can, send me those in, i'll add you to the list and stuff, it just wont count for the grand final total, but you'll be listed and what not. Its not for naught.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
I didn't know you could finish games that are not on Steam for the backlog challenge... I didn't think of that. Next one I'm so going to bust out more games than just 2.
You're amazing for organizing this AND coming up with bounties as well! I'm hoping to continue to participate in these just to eliminate games from my backlog and have fun doing them.

Blood Brothers is always something to watch out for. I've had one hunt me down within a minute of killing his blood brother and suspect it took that long only because I was engaged with another two orcs after killing the first.
That said, don't discount Tugog or any orc until their marker completely vanishes. I had one orc cheat true death at least 5 times despite amputations and decapitation. The only reason he stopped coming back was because a necromancer got hold of him and being a zombie orc took away his ability to come back once the necromancer died.

On the plus side, they are all really well done and not a bit exploiting (aka swimsuit or short shorts). I just wish that one of the dozen people I've run into would give her a jacket. Or a sweater...shit, a fucking shirt would be nice. Not just to cover up the cleavage, but to get fucking warm. Damn Lara, grab a jacket off one of the dudes I've killed. Something!

For Rise? IIRC most of the alternate costumes were winter coats of various styles.
Playing FFX right now and all my guys are wearing beach clothes to a frozen mountain. It's so cold their breath is showing and there's snow and ice everywhere and they are running around in shorts and flipflops. I wasn't really expecting anything else but it still breaks my suspension of disbelief for some reason.
Giant, respawning demi-god whales that can cause you to time travel? No problem! Wearing summer clothes in winter weather? Madness!
I still haven't seen one that does it.
He is playing the first one, but I'm thankful they added a bunch of outfits in Rise that most were pretty appropriate for the climate.
Yeah, I've definitely had my share of orcs who came back. One of the orcs killed in my "pit purge" came back as a legendary orc and I just had to re-recruit him. He'll probably betray me, but at least I will get an epic weapon out of it.

In Xenonauts, I've hit a terror mission with the big guns, specifically, those dudes that boom when they die, and blue dudes with boom guns....so two of her.
Crap-apples that would be an insanely overpowered unit, infiltrates civilians, regenerates damage, built in bazooka, incredible reaction time. Wonder what xenonauts 2 is like?
