They could have done something. Six bubbles. Stick every team from a division in one stadium, something like that. I agree that it would be better for everyone if they outright cancelled, but there was a more responsible way to try and go about it if the money is that important.

That would have gotten in the way of profit, I guess
And all of the resources needed for that scheme really should have went to hospitals
If you're a player, on the chance you survive this until fall 2021 when the CBA is officially done, I don't see how your instinct isn't to go through with a strike
The owners have earned, and deserve, no benefit of the doubt after this that they'd be able to negotiate anything in good faith that could help you
The MLB should have cancelled the season six months ago
Grossly irresponsible behavior in the name of naked greed
My only hope is that at this point some good comes of the fact that MLB gets shut down and the public gets a renewed sense of urgency about this shit.
Not holding my breath.
Just wait until NFL games are cancelled. People don't give two shits about baseball, but if a Cowboys game is postponed the world will end.
For that reason I fully expect some story about falsified test results, players playing while testing positive, and Goodell being in on it to prevent a huge game in a prime slot from being postponed or cancelled.
currently rumors flying around that some Cardinals players went to a casino, I haven't seen any actual merit to any of these rumors, and most of them are from Cubs fans who are...not inclined to give the Cardinals the benefit of the doubt

Yeah, I would have to take a rumor like that with a grain of salt as big as a house.
That said, something like that - or the Marlins players hanging out at a hotel bar - is exactly why I opted out from my normal fantasy league the moment we decided that anyone who wanted to opt out for this season could still come back and play next season. I didn't see how you could draft well without trying to take into account which players were most likely to break quarantine and fuck things up for the rest of their team, and I had no interest in trying to actually make that kind of determination. "Yeah, X should be a Tier 1 SS but there's no way Y doesn't break quarantine regularly and that's going to cause problems for the whole team eventually, so I'm going to put X in the bottom half of Tier 2 instead."
Oh god I hadn't even considered keeper leagues and how this probably screws those up just a little extra.
Dropping everything related to keepers was the first thing my league voted in favor of for this season. This just became some bizarre alternate dimension year, down to drafting for the first time ever in our league instead of an auction.
Important to note that he just...disappeared from his hotel in the middle of the night before he told anyone he was opting out, I assume because he plays for the Mets and nobody there does anything in a way that makes any sense

I'm glad he turned out to be OK, but if you had asked me who in baseball would up and disappear overnight with no communication I would've said cespedes in a heartbeat

I do not buy the mets version of the story in the slightest considering 1) it's the mets 2) they traded for billy hamilton this morning before they 'found out' he was missing 3) it's the fucking mets

If the Cubs win the championship this season, maybe they pull us out of this damned timeline they sent us to when they won in 2016.
