Yeah, no, that's fair. NMH's art design and story was a big draw for me as well. As were the crazy boss fights.

Honestly thinking about it further, as long as you're paying for the cloud saves and double check that everything is backed up on there properly, Switch transfers are probably unnecessary now, right?

You do this to deregister your current Switch and then you throw it into the ocean. You buy a new one. You make the new Switch your primary console and go on the shop and download all your games, and then download the cloud saves.

I think all you would lose in this case are screenshots and videos you've saved to the old SD card if you didn't remove it first.

But personally I would do the Switch-to-Switch transfer just to be sure that nothing goes wrong in the process, and because it's faster. I wouldn't want to NOT have my Switch with everything on it in my possession, I don't trust internet services that completely. However it seems unlikely that anything would go wrong.

Some games don't support cloud saves, for reasons. Reasons like "fuck you!" Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee for example.

True. Well, reasons that to them are sound but aren't to most consumers. Can't you transfer between Let's Go and Go on the phone? And Game Freak fruitlessly wants to attempt to preserve the sanctity of the Pokemon. At least make it non-trivial, like how you'd be able to transfer them and then pull down the cloud save and instantly have duplicates.

I pulled the trigger on another Switch Deal. Let's hope this one goes through. There's a Google Express deal going on here that has been live for a few hours:

    https://express.google.com/product/Nintendo-Switch-with-Neon-Blue-and-Neon-Red-Joy-Con-and-Super-Smash-Bros-Ultimate/2644315416674345789_0_46586

If you use the code GIFT15, you can get Neon/Blue Switch with Smash Bros for $305.99, no tax, free shipping. Just going to return the Smash I bought and save the money if it does go through.

You can send from GO -> Let's GO, but it's a one way path. And even then, Let's GO isn't compatible with Pokemon Bank or the "main series" games either, so once your Pokemon are there they are trapped unless you want to trade them one at a time to another Let's GO game. It's very "old school" of them.

And by "old school" I mean it is dumb.

I cannot connect Pokemon Go to the Switch because “device not supported” which makes no sense to me.

Although I’m not really in a hurry to transfer anything since Pokemon in Go are a lot rarer than in Let’s Go in general. If I transfer a vulpix to Let’s Go, who knows when I’ll run into a vulpix again in Go.

I had the same problem. My old ass Samsung Galaxy S4 said the device was not supported. Turns out the connect feature requires Bluetooth 4.2 I think? And my device only had Bluetooth 4.0.

A week later my phone was tearing ass through 100% battery with 4 hours of sitting still so I went ahead and got a new one anyways. It was practically falling apart I've dropped it so many times. Was missing a small chunk of it's faceplate over the menu button. Pretty sure I'd done something to fuck the antenna too since it had nightmarishly bad reception.

Now I'm not saying I got a new phone because of Pokemon Let's Go. I had plenty of other reasons should anyone ask.

But I got a phone because of Pokemon Let's Go.

Well we can be reasonable confident a name change is coming and traditionally when companies rebrand something it also comes with at least a fresh coat of paint.

I'm certainly curious to find out what it is all about.

It literally says there "RUMOR - Nintendo Switch Online shop might replace Nintendo eShop in the future," but that's what I get for going off a GoNintendo headline.

But yeah, the story itself is more vague.

Yes,. "it" as in random Internet stranger made-up-thing.

Did you read what it's based on? The text in quotations above. There is literally nothing to suggest replacement.

    It's called clickbait.

Edit: That came off more dickish than intended. Just wanted to reiterate, all of these "OMG RUMOR!" articles are basing it off that one small sentence, which really only hints at a name change. And it makes sense, to me, that they stop saying "eShop" considering "electronic shop" has long since lost its luster. Does the younger generation even know what the "e" stands for?

So I got the 8bitdo Gbros wireless adapter for Gamecube controllers, looks like this:

    8bitdo-gbros-wireless-adapter-for-switch-580441.1.jpg

(The buttons add home menu and screenshot functionality)

Surprisingly, input lag is practically non-existent. I played a couple matches of smash using the gamecube adapter before switching to it and absolutely could not tell the difference. It also has a port on the opposite side for SNES and NES Classic controllers which I didn't even know was a thing, I'm glad it is though as the NES Classic controllers are perfect for the Nintendo Online NES library.

It's 20 bucks, works great, and has multiple (albeit limited) uses. No complaints here.

Edit: works with the Wii Classic controller as well, although I don't have one to try out.

Its more like wired on the Switch sucks so bad as to be basically even with wireless. Even attached joy-cons are about equal, so I have to think it is very intentional. Any half-decent wireless controller will deliver the same results.

While I don't know if that's true, the Hori D-pad left joycons are definitely using the connection because they don't have wireless transmitters. So the capability to be wired for the joycons is there.

The input lag in, say, smash is 100ms + or - about 10ms on joycons, pro controller, and gamecube controllers, 1/10th of a second, so at 60 FPS that's 6 frames of input lag. I don't feel it but I'm not very sensitive to fighting game inputs.

Six frames of input lag is pretty huge.

It means that if you and I press grab at the exact same time, you are pretty much always getting grabbed. Regardless of character.

Sounds like the input lag is there regardless of what control method you're using, it's just a weird thing the switch does. Not noticeable to 99% of the people who play anything on it though. For fighting game people and smash pros, they might notice it.

but you have the input lag too?

This seems fair but during my time in Splatoon I've noticed that systems with input lag favor ambush tactics, as your opponent's ability to react to your presence is delayed enough to make a difference between whether you are able to react and act appropriately or you just get destroyed. This is only really an issue at high-level play but its still an issue.

I'm less familiar with high-level Smash. I'd speculate that the lag is less of an issue in a game where both players are equally visible to one another and the lag is the same for both of you, but people seem upset about it and I think its justified when the solution is hypothetically easy (ie make it so that non-wireless connections have less input lag). Unfortunately it seems consistent across Switch games so it is probably part of how the console communicates with controllers, rather than a game-specific issue.

This is also very true, I'd bet that 99.9% of Switch owners will never notice it, and Nintendo will never "fix" it.

I actually think there's some merit here, since you're expected to constantly be changing control styles with this system if you use it like a hybrid, and this also mitigates competitive disadvantages based on your playstyle. Also I guess some power savings since the low polling rate on USB seems to be part of the input lag.

  • LD50LD50 Registered User regular
It's also possible that the input lag is coming from vsync or something similar.
