I've actually been slowly grinding through FF15 and replaced Noctis with a purple haired lady I made who is way less dorky looking and I'm having fun watching these boys hang out with giant chickens and hang out at camp but the plot is .. barely coherent?
The game is a mess, in a lot of ways. It really feels like at some point in development, they had this huge map and a ton of assets they didn't know what to do with, so they started over and just overwrote what they had with a personal story about four guys on an endless road trip through their empty world. And, if you end up liking the quartet, that actually makes for a really fun game.
But you can still see all the gaps and seams where the original game peaks through.
Was kind of disappointed by the direction they took Gladio, because it felt like he took a hard right into being a total dickhead, but otherwise those four were what carried the entire game for me.
Apex Legends has been easily topping the Twitch view counts since it released. They nailed their marketing with the surprised release and partnerships with big streamers at launch

There's a germ of an interesting idea there:
It's tonally very weird, even if it somewhat set up by the story.
The game establishes early on that, in this trip of best buds, Noctis and Prompto are the only two genuine friends. The other two are servants with loyalty to the state not Noctis and ultimately are there to make sure that when the time comes, Noctis goes through with sacrificing his life to save the city. The game then ignores this for hours before throwing you back into the conflict, with Ignis growing closer to Noctis and questioning the mission while Gladio suddenly shifts to loyal soldier ordering his charge to his death.
It feels like one more relic of the game's odd production.

the lady was getting into it too, she was fully into Cute Sad Boy Roadtrip and that's kind of impressive, she normally hates man pain stories
