also guess who just discovered the version of Stan by Eminem that Elton John backs him up on and I can't get enough

I think my new Karaoke song will be Stan. I grew up in the aughts, I know that verse flow like the back of my hand, and I can definitely sing the Dido parts, it'll be a killer

My legs seem to never tan, and never burn. Meanwhile, my top half does both, and I've always found that pretty odd.

I went to Puerto Rico a few years ago and forgot I was closer to the equator...so when I went to the beach and drizzled some wet sand on my legs for fun, and left it there, I was not expecting the absolutely hilariously weird "squiggle burn/tan line" that I got as a result.

    Like a ganache cake.

I'm usually 30% sand by volume by the end of summer.

When I was a little kid and my family was stationed on Guam I was super tanned because we were at the beach basically every weekend but now I am the palest motherfucker alive.

all of this makes me wonder

how fun can sex on the beach really be

like isn't that gonna result with sand being in places that you absolutely wouldn't want sand

Sometimes I'd go to the beach for a walk and end up finding small bits of sand in my hair like 4 days later.

I don't mind that as much as the feeling of salt water drying on you. I need to take a shower immediately after going for an ocean swim, blegh!

I would go to the beach more but I have this bad habit of basically immediately taking a nap if I'm not in the water.

If I'm not dumping several kilograms of sand out of my swimsuit gusset by the end of the day, it's a day wasted.

Similarly, I love the weird crinkly feeling of dried salt water on your skin.

    aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH

It's SO DRY! I can feel my skin pulled taut when I move. It's this powdery salt feeling and ugh ugh ugh no

I am super sensitive to dry skin and the feeling on something on my hands, though. I might be more bothered as a result.

    It's called rough sex

Because sand is coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere

    Yeah it's great!
no but actually it is a very weird feeling - being 'aware' of your skin in that way can be extremely odd - but it's one I associate with sun and summer fruit and lots of wine and relaxation and Christmas and no work or pressure ... basically the connotations are so good that even if the feeling is discomforting, I still enjoy it.

Seaweed removed from the ocean still pretty much just smells like the ocean.

Seaweed doesn't smell like anything, in my experience. Just smells like the sea, which I find very pleasant!

Marshes are what smell like death. Sulfur fart death.

But the beach smells very light and aquatic and happy to me.

[edit] low-tide can be a bit more intense, depending on the beach, but still nowhere near a marsh smell.

Seaweed smell is very gross, I am not about that.

I mean honestly I don't love a lot of the ocean - I like swimming and boardwalks and not wearing a shirt, but none of that is really beach exclusive

And the ocean has tried to kill me twice and I have a very bad relationship with seafood and I don't really like sand

All the oceans around here are like our lakes and rivers: opaque and look like muddy poop water

That said, I currently live less than a mile from one of the great lakes and I find it deeply disappointing in comparison to a proper oceanic beach

I think Michigan is probably the only neat one.

Erie and Ontario are kind of mehhhhhhhhhhh... I'd almost rather go to like Oneida lake instead.
